For those of you doing this shaft. In order to remove without loosening the cross member bracket. All you have to do is compress the yolk, and pull it out towards fuel tank
I didn’t need to drop the cross member on mine. Lift front of driveshaft and push forward as far as possible, then pull the rear down and to the left. Slide the front yolk to the right ahead of the trans pan while pushing the shaft forwards slightly, then the rear joint will be ahead of the cross member so you can pull the rear of the shaft down to clear it. Then just slide the shaft out at an angle under the door avoiding the fuel tank.
Great Video, getting ready to in stall a new front drive shaft. Couple suggestions, Under Any vehicle, on your back, looking up at your work, Always wear some safety glasses. It only take One piece of greasy, nasty, chunk of dirt to hit you in the eyeball, Also, I f you can afford a yard of concrete to pour and work off of, way safer and easier.
Same thing happen to my Jeep, just disconnect the all wheel drive wire harness and your Jeep will become a rear drive only. Also do not remove the front drive shaft until you have the replacement.
Okay so hit me back bro I’m trying to replace my starter I got the old one out without taking the driveshaft out but I can’t get the new one in. U say don’t remove front if u don’t have the replacement. Would I not be able to put it back in? Thanks man hit me back
ahhh, thanks for the input xD i wasn't %100 sure which makes and models can or cant drive. i would be happy to drive with 2wd till the new shaft came in lol
@@TwistedDragon89 yes that’s what I thinking so you would still have rear wheel drive and be able to drive the car? Just trying to make sure I have this right in my mind.

Great video! How much was the new shaft?... or did you rebuild the old one?

Jeep commanders are front wheel drive until 4wd is engaged.
Your tranfser case in neutral
Do you think its possible to use the jeep with the shaft removed temporarily?
negative. when you try and put the jeep into gear it will go nowhere lol
@@TwistedDragon89isn’t there a shaft going to the rear wheels though?
@@ktrigg2 if i remember it goes through the transfer case
