Rare picture of my childhood hero - Chris Vincent in the sidecar race. I’ve since been to the Motorcycle Museum to view his outfit there!

The Hutchinson was run "wrong way round" on the short circuit at Brands. I think it was the only race meeting to be run in that direction each year......

The “Hutch” was actually on the long GP circuit, but it was the wrong way round. My fathers team, Gus Kuhn, competed there in the late 60’s and through the 70’s with Norton Commando’s, Seeley G50’s, 7R’s and Seeley framed Commando’s. We also used BMW boxer twins towards the end. Going round the circuit in reverse brought with it a whole lot of different problems that needed to be overcome, especially with the proddie racing Commando, off the start finish strait into Clearways was much faster than the normal way round, and we had problems decking the chaincase which caused our rider, Mick Andrew, to have a big crash there. Thankfully he was just badly knocked about. Also, from Druids to Paddock Hill bend, you were travelling a lot faster when you hit the bottom of Paddock hill which caused the bike to totally bottom out. Over the years we competed there with Dave Croxford, Pat Mahoney and Charley Sanby to name but a few. Dave Potter won the Grovewood award, all in all we had a good share of success at the Hutch. Couldn’t be done now of course for safety reasons, but they did run some demonstration laps the wrong way round a few years back at a BSB meeting as a celebration of the “Hutch”.

Amazing old footage. Are they going anti-clockwise?

I marshalled at the 'Hutch' in the early 70s.

I did also in 70's until the last one in 76. Interestingly that is not the Hutch trophy they are giving to Phil in the footage

It was all run the other way round back then in the early years wasn't it? It was a cycling circuit back in the 20 onwards on grass only then taken over by the military during ww2 for training motorcycle mounted troops. Then back to civilian use in the late 40s. I found some ww2 footage of the motorcycles on yt but can't find it now, you can make out the south bank in one shot.
