  • Shulker reactors are a brand new shulker farm concept invented by Etho. This video explains the concept and goes into the maths behind it.
    Big shout out to all the people below for their amazing creations!

    Write up of calculations to follow shortly. But for siphoning equilibrium will be when the replication number, times (1 - siphon rate) is equals to 1. Then you can work out the external grind rate from the overall duplication rate and the kill rate.
    Here is a litematic for my scaffolding based reactor, however, there is still some issue with golems dying, so it still needs a bit more work: (download button in top right)
    drive.google.com/file/d/1rZ6N...
    Some of you may have noticed something about the symbol I used for the initial replication number. That wasn't completely co-incidental, but it was a bit too tangential to fully explain in the video.

    Everyone who's come here from RaysWorks' video. Note that this is the video where I explain the reactor concept, not the scaffolding mechanics. I recommend watching this video anyway, as it covers a lot of the mechanics of the reactor concept, but the scaffolding mechanics are covered here: ruclips.net/video/uLR15b8wgAo/видео.html

    Etho built that in his survival world, not the hermitcraft server

    Really well done, props to Etho, I love how unique the reactor is, but also props to you, really cool how you actually did the math on the rates and talked about improvements, I really hope this reactor design goes somewhere.

    I didn't know the concept of the scaffolding and how their mechanics work with the hitboxes. I guess that mixing this mechanic with the reactor concept is the key to achieve reasonable rates for those farms.
    Very interesting video! Very technical and clear.

      You don't need to use scaffolding to make a good reactor!
      But it is a very useful tool. hf147 has been improving his farm, including using scaffolding to provide extra teleport space and for siphoning, and now has about 1200 shells/hour.

    9:55 One idea that comes to mind for me is similar to what Etho did with his reactor. If you were to put an area around the reactor so that they had a chance of teleporting onto the holding point then all you would have to do is kill them(of course that is a big challenge in itself). This is just an idea, I doubt that any profound discoveries will be made in youtube comment sections lol.

      Yes, this is basically what I mean by siphoning (so I guess Etho was already kinda trying this idea out). Of course, as you say, it's harder to pull off in practice (well, getting a handful of shulkers out is not too hard, but moving a lot of them out becomes a lot more challenging).
      Scaffolding is quite useful fot this as you can quickly get shulkers away, but it's hard to build enough of it so the shulkers have a good chance of teleporting out.

      You should see the latest iterations of hf147's design. It looks almost exactly like the RBMK from Chernobyl!

    Nice! Now we push it to silly levels! Let's make ianxo4 cell, above it place your scaffolding upward transportation, above that in each corner put a reactor with its own agro cell! We turn off the initial cell once every reactor is operational.
    Ok, even more stupid idea - instead of 4 reactors place 4 more scaffolding transportation units, and then make multiple reactors! How many reactors can we build, will the limit be processing power of our PCs?

    Great video Ending Credit!
    What do you think of having a 2-dimension shulker farm, spanning only across the x-z axis?
    =============== - slab/wall
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - scaffoldings
    |_| |_| - minecart with hoppers + minecart with snowman
    ---------------------------- - rails
    I was thinking this design would help with:
    - Aggroing of shulkers -> Snowmans on minecart firing way from beneath the scaffolding (potentially cause group aggro as well?)
    - Collection -> Maybe minecart with hoppers is able to pick up items from the above scaffolding(?)
    This is all thought up in my toilet break, so please don't be too harsh on any mistakes :')

      I have tried implementing this in a creative world with some few updates:
      ================ - bottom slab
      I - fences/glass panels on this layer and below encapsulating all shulker bullets within the farm
      [O] [O] - shulker spawning layers
      xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - scaffolding
      |V| - minecart with hoppers + running on rails (collection)
      xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - scaffolding
      |8| - minecart with snowman + running on rails (aggro-ing)
      ================ - top slabs
      I find this design quite interesting, as:
      1. Apart from rails, its doesn't use redstone components
      2. Simple and not many spawn-proofings with button are needed
      3. Inspired from Ethos's idea, puts emphasis on creating many breeding grounds - no reliance on single core breeder
      4. Inspired by Ray Work's latest video, it could potentially be more scalable, as we could easily add more "aggro-er" (with addition of more snow-mans) - could span wider on x-z axis well
      5. Also scalable (kinda) on y-axis, as you could repeat the modules vertically
      In short, this design tries to solve a core issue for ethos's reactor design, the aggro-ing stage.
      The build approach of focusing solely on x-z axis allows for very simple minecart layout, allowing us to an "aggro-er" (or more) very easily.
      By running collection minecarts on rails on scaffolding, this allows collection to be done while simultaneously enable snowball peltings from snowman below.
      Snowmans are also kept very safe due to the one-way property of scaffoldings (Thanks ianxofour :))

      For some reason I never saw this comment. Is actually a very inteesting concept! Although I think you would have hard time getting shulkers to hit themselves.

    Me when math lesson ended: ?math is boring
    Me after watching to this:
    So shulker does die after 8 hits but can still duplicate in 6 hits
    Now how i can make it efficient.
