Ghosts of saltmarsh has a really cool adventure were you explore an abandoned ship which eventually gets attacked by an "octopus". Its not a fight, its an escape sequence, which works quite well for something this menacing.
When me and my friends were playing Ghosts of Saltmarsh, we managed to escape the giant octopus only for our barbarian to take a pot shot at it with our ship's ballista. I'm literally planning a pirate themed campaign right now, so these videos are a godsend for fleshing it out. Are you in my head? How did you know what I needed at this very moment?
I’ve run a few large monsters against my players, but not kraken yet. Biggest aquatic monster used so far is the massive aquatic variant of a blue dragon, unless you count the reanimated corpse of a titan that happened to be in the ocean. Kraken me, Pointy and friends!
Super proud of this enemy. Part of my world’s (Disney music cue) lore is an offshoot of Greek mythology, with the Olympians being worshipped and the titans being jerks, and an early baddie was a previously unknown son of Uranus thinking he’d get an easy victory and rule the world (probably justified since he was about a thousand feet tall), but he severely underestimated the tenacity of the heroes and the strength of the magic. All he got for his trouble was a dagger infused with the purest manifestation of death shoved up his nose into his brain which instantly killed the supposedly unkillable titan, and he fell into the northern sea to fester and rot for an eon. Cut to about a dozen millennia later, a new huge baddie is about to destroy the world, and the new heroes can only come up with one solution, the same death dagger still lodged in the titans brain cavity. Despite carefully planning the underwater expedition, the moment they removed the dagger the desiccated corpse started thrashing around and threatened all of civilization from tidal waves alone. After many deaths of their NPC minions and all but one of their ships shattered, they had to systematically dismember it bone by bone to keep it from regenerating fully and win without giving up the dagger again. Tartarus was able to get a much needed renovation from the bones, and the heroes were able to turn around and defeat the darker foe. The titan kinda had a water attack but technically more necrotic than aquatic, so don’t think he counts as a kraken…
The implication is that the first generation of most creatures were designed by a god, but then said god gave them reproductive organs, so every subsequent version of the beast is more like a mass-produced version of the original design. Titans are like special projects that gods make by hand, rather than relying on the reproductive system
The adventure is really cool and all, but I think the better outcome of this is the entire community collaboration. Thanks for all the hard work of everyone involved and thanks to the co creators for putting it all together!

IDEA For Pointy Hat: Since you made that really cool looking K logo for kraken week, how about in future, if you guys do such an event again (please do) you make use another letter. And slowly but surely go through the alphabet with these events. I think that'd be neat. Yes 26 is a LOT but hey do them whenever yall feel like I guess
Wow. I cannot express how awestruck I am by your work this week, Pointy. Organizing an event in a creative community, creating an ENTIRE ADVENTURE, AND including rules that can be used elsewhere in the game in that adventure document, all for Pointy Hat Certified Free? You fever isn't the only thing that's on fire.
Those siege rules are awesome. I always thought D&D needed a way to fight on a big scale; these rules can be applied to army v. army, giant robot fights, and ship to ship combat on the seas.
Thank you so much for doing this, Pointy! Having thematic events in the D&DTube community is a great way for us viewers to be reminded that our favourite creators don't exist in separate universes and actually enjoy each other too. I'm so watching every video on the playlist. Already excited for the next event! Fingers crossed!
Im working in an adventure where the players travel the sea and live the dnd equivalent of the discovery of the americas by Christopher Colombus, so hearing that kraken week will focus on the seas is exactly what i needed!
I just want to thank you very much for this. I’ve been struggling to come up with a backstory for a Kenku pirate I made for a oneshot that evolved into a campaign, and a whole week focused on the ocean is exactly what I needed to get some kind of inspiration. Also I just love giant sea monsters because the ocean is full of horrors and those horrors are neat.
I, for one, would like to thank you for all the incredible amount of work you've put in for this event. You always give us not only great videos but also great game material for free, and now you're giving us a 65 pages free adventure ! As a self concious, kinda awkward procrastinating DM, you inspire me to put myself and my campaigns and adventures out there for my friends to experience. Thank you so much for being the main reason why I've not quit DM altogether.
"Hatters" are the supporters of Luton Town Football Club. A town formerly known for making hats, now mostly for the airport. My logo is directly based off their team badge "Luton Chatters"
It's awesome seeing the community all work together on events like this! I really hope things like this get organised more often. (Also ngl seeing Ginni & Pointy discuss things in a spooky manner but they're just making puns, is so insanely funny!)
In my worlds krakens are master transmuters, especially of themselves. That's why they look like squids as kids but incredibly strange as adults. Many krakens specifically wish to emulate & become dragons, all to failure.
Honestly, I don't comment much on videos much, but I have to say, I really really enjoy your videos the more I watch them. They are such high quality and both you and Ginny absolutely knocked it out of the park with this.
Man this sounds like such an incredible adventure, you have hands down become one of if not my favorite DnD creator. Great job and thank you so much for all the effort you put into your content :)
I just want to say that it's amazing to see so many people participating in Kraken Week. It feels like it's really bringing the community together, and it's very wholesome. You two have organised something really great here ❤
Ya know what's wild?? Ginny & Hat's adventure is a really great analogy for modern Caribbean society. Previous king? Attempting to become decolonized from European masters. Yearly kraken and vast migration? Climate change and megaurbanization causing most locals to move to another country cuz there is little long term future staying home. (Every island is different, don't @ me)
Awesome, this is perfect. I've just finished running Tomb of Annihilation and I want my players to embark on a sea/pirate adventure after the summer pause. They are level 11 but I will adapt the statblocks. I already wanted to have a (reworked) Kraken as my next BBEG so this fits awesomely. After this adventure they will surely want to kill this Kraken once and for all, and this leaves me room to create sidequests and objectives for a few levels before fighting this monster. THANK YOU !!!
Bravo Pointy Hat! This video alone is amazing for the start of Kraken Week. Huge props to you, GinnyDi and all the creators putting there heart and soul into the community of RUclipsrs I love the most.
I love all Pointy Hat videos!!! But this news made my year! I love ocean stuff and have been trying to figure out how to incorporate more underwater stuff into my campaigns for ages! And wow! Seriously you're my hero for this!!
Kraken week is such an amazing initiative. Super cool story and NEW RULES!? It's crazy that you are giving us all for certified pointy-hat-freeTM. Thank you
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have a big fight in my campaign coming up and was a little lost in how to handle a big siege like that for the first time. They also recruited factions to help and your siege rules finally feel like a solution! ❤
I was about to watch Runesumith's video when this popped up and was like:" Well, this is weird." I had NO IDEA you made this huge community event, dear god, what a fantastic idea. I always loved Kraken's and all things ocean-like, so I'm really having the time of day with this community event. When I started to watch your videos all that time ago I never thought you would've made it this far on DnD RUclips. I'm so glad I stuck around. Love the video, keep this up. ✌️
1) I loved this. 2) I hope you all do this again next year. 3) Would recommend to others to check this out. 4) I hope you all do this again next year. Maybe even play a one shot game as an example of what an underwater game and encounter could look like.
No save button on the google doc. You did this on purpose so id have to come back and give you another view anytime i want to look at the doc again. Genius. Also don't tell @DungeonDudes but I am 100% adding this to my Drakkenheim campaign if my players make the mistake of going near the ocean.
Literally i have been DYING to see something like concise siege rules. And never, ever in my life have i been particularly drawn to a pre made adventure. Storm Rising has changed all of that and I love everything about it. 😍😍😍 You and Ginny have made something so incredible, and I am just blown away by Kraken Week's impact. Thank you all for your incredible work. I cannot wait to figure out a group to play this with. HAPPY KRAKEN WEEK 🦑🦑🦑
Better, more easily run content than any D&D adventure I’ve seen, and it’s free. Right amount of detail and suggestions. Top it off with a siege system that can be easily ported to anything. 3 cheers for the hat!
This wasn't was I was expecting for Kraken week. I expected a cute video about something underwater themed. However, you have literally planned basically an entire campaign FOR FREE. It takes a lot of gall to drop something like that. Damn, it has inspired me to continue writing my next campaign LOL Thank you for constantly exceeded my expectations. You and Ginny are the G.O.A.T.s! :) I also hope you are feeling better after that 40 degree fever! ;-;
AAAAAAAAA THIS IS ACTUALLY PERFECT THANK YOU SO MUCH MR HAT! I have a big kraken fight coming up in my campaign in a few sessions and this is going to help me SO MUCH!! Aaaa I’m so excited to see what else Kraken Week brings :D
My DM had us fight an undead flying kracken in our air ship with skeletal pirates to boot. It was so much fun! Definitely looking forward to checking out the adventure!
Just want to say I love this! Storm Rising seems to hit so many of the things I specifically adore. Choice driven gameplay, branching narrative, factions… nautical themes! Kaiju style battles! Pirates! Freaking selkies!? I honestly can’t believe this is a freebie. Well done Pointy Hat, Ginny and everyone who’s made Kraken Week my new fave event!
Its crazy that you provide huge amounts of content - books way better than the WotC adventures, rules for things they've never thought to provide...and you do it all for free! Thank you for everything you do for the community ❤
Thank you so much for this! We appreciate all the hard work you and Ginny out into this. This whole event is so cool, fun, and interesting. Thank you for the video and always helping me DM
Another awesome video A lot of what was presented is literally perfect for my campaign. Just like in the adventure the main purpose of the campais gathering allies and assets To fight the BBEG Lich. The players are at level six And I've gotten the idea that they need an ally with navel assets. Cape coral is perfect for this. The characters already made a name for themselves trying to gather allies and going on adventures To help cities and kingdoms. So they can prove themselves in a council. They will lend their ships to them. I'm also looking to cap the campaign At the end of the year with a massive fantasy battle Where the different armies and allies they made can contribute and I think the siege rules are great for that. And even better, I can introduce them now, and later on When I use them again for the big battle , they will already be familiar with them. So again, thank you very much. And congratulations for kraken weak.
Pointy, I love your videos, they are always so fun but also full of useful information and new ideas. I got into planning a campaign (I’m a new dm) because of your videos, and asking my players what they wanted, they came up with a sea adventure, and guess what happened… you guys gave us a whole week of content that we could adapt to our story! I’ll be throwing my players into your kraken adventure for sure; thank you for being awesome 🤙
I really enjoyed this video and the entirety of kraken week! You did a great job I am a bit disappointed that it got immediately overshadowed by previews for D&D 2024; I wish there’d been another week in between. Anyway, I’m super inspired to run a pirate campaign now! Thank you very much for this community event! I hope that another one can happen in the future ❤
dude, you are too much! this is amazing! hope you feel better soon, so you can fully enjoy the awesome colab and things youve made. siege rules is a great concept!
thank you so much I can't believe the perfect timing of this because right now I have to prepare a session for my pirate campaign where ehm the last time they ehm really pissed off the kraken and they're only level 9, so i was trying to pick between just annihilating them or making it a pushover, thank you for this new input!!!!

And slowly but surely go through the alphabet with these events. I think that'd be neat. Yes 26 is a LOT but hey do them whenever yall feel like I guess
Antonio, this is absolutely massive, thank you so much for a great work! Get well please
Mad props for managing to put this out with a (checks in freedom units) freakin 104 fever. My guy. You are a legend. I hope you get to feeling better!
Did i read that right? A WHOLE ADVENTURE???
65 pages of it!
@@Itomon 60 PAGES? EXPECTED TO BE PLAYED IN 2-4 SESSIONS? Hat has gone ham lol
even just this video not counting community organization is sooo cool like one of the best “twists” you’ve done!
You are a legend for giving all this valuable adventures, rules, ecc... every video for free. Absolute Legend
You and Ginny are easily my 2 favorite creators for tabletop rpgs, and this kind of thing is exactly why. This sounds incredible
I love pirates and all things water campaigns so thank you for the free adventure and in general Kraken week
Pointy talking about bondage sessions with Krakens caught me off guard ngl
I played your feywild adventure as a one shot with 2 groups and had a blast. So happy to see the how the kraken one turns out
Knowing that you like making videos about unexpected things, I somehow still didn't expect the Kraken
Thank you for providing us so much quality content. We will always be here for your amazing projects like this.
You make me want to try being a DM so that I can pilot some of these "twisted" monsters and experience the players reaction! :D
That's cool af
Honestly, I don't comment much on videos much, but I have to say, I really really enjoy your videos the more I watch them. They are such high quality and both you and Ginny absolutely knocked it out of the park with this.
If you ever do a fey-themed one of these, you should call it the Fesytival.
Man this sounds like such an incredible adventure, you have hands down become one of if not my favorite DnD creator. Great job and thank you so much for all the effort you put into your content :)
I feel like the Kraken would be better as several "tentacles" your team has to fight instead of one entity
Ooh, Pointy Hat and Ginny Di teaming up and inviting all their friends to bring us a week of underwater extravaganza? Love you guys! Stay insane!
Cape Coral is a real city here in Florida 😂😂😂 it's the "Venice of Florida," because it has canals that residents move their boats through.
Okay we've had Kraken week, but now I want crack and weed : a week of videos about consumable items.
This, this is what the D&D community needed, you sir, have given the path for the D&D community to keep maturing. Thank you.
My loins yearn for human familiar and the wagon that he's dragging
Man, i JUST started a lv 12 underwater campaign and wanted to use the kraken.
Your kraken week is like a blessing
my wife left me
Damn. 😔
she's at my place
Should have invested more in that skibidi ohio rizz grindset.
For a kraken? Or one of those mermen?
Good
Bravo Pointy Hat!
And wow! This is awesome (and the adventure-I already checked that out!) So this Kraken Week is already shaping up to be my favorite ever!!! Thank you sooooo much, Pointy Hat!!!
I am loving Kraken Week. Thanks to you, @GinnyDi and all the creators contributing to this awesome idea.
First of all: great job with Kraken Week.
Second: the adventure sounds insanely good. You never stop surprising me, Hat.
1) I loved this.
2) I hope you all do this again next year.
3) Would recommend to others to check this out.
4) I hope you all do this again next year. Maybe even play a one shot game as an example of what an underwater game and encounter could look like.
It so amazing to see the dnd community come together for Kraken week, truly what was missing all this time.
Great job Pointy and Ginny ❤
No save button on the google doc. You did this on purpose so id have to come back and give you another view anytime i want to look at the doc again. Genius.
Also don't tell @DungeonDudes but I am 100% adding this to my Drakkenheim campaign if my players make the mistake of going near the ocean.
I just got done watching an older video about old kraken lore, and this fit right in! Love all the hard work everyone tossed into kraken week!
Literally i have been DYING to see something like concise siege rules. And never, ever in my life have i been particularly drawn to a pre made adventure. Storm Rising has changed all of that and I love everything about it. 😍😍😍
You and Ginny have made something so incredible, and I am just blown away by Kraken Week's impact.
This wasn't was I was expecting for Kraken week. I expected a cute video about something underwater themed. However, you have literally planned basically an entire campaign FOR FREE. It takes a lot of gall to drop something like that. Damn, it has inspired me to continue writing my next campaign LOL
Thank you for constantly exceeded my expectations. You and Ginny are the G.O.A.T.s! :)
I also hope you are feeling better after that 40 degree fever! ;-;
this is so awesome!! i have no idea why but the ending made my tear up, thank you for putting so much love into this! excited to play it one day
AAAAAAAAA THIS IS ACTUALLY PERFECT THANK YOU SO MUCH MR HAT!
Of everything you've posted, THIS is head and shoulders above the rest. Absolutely top-tier stuff, thank you!
This is excellent. It's work like this that keeps on making me wish Pointy Hat's Google docs were downloadable.
My two favorite DND RUclipsrs collaborating. Love it!
Thank you for the adventure Antonio, it's awsome! Love it so mutch!!
Another awesome video
A lot of what was presented is literally perfect for my campaign.
Just like in the adventure the main purpose of the campais gathering allies and assets To fight the BBEG Lich.
The players are at level six And I've gotten
the idea that they need an ally with navel assets.
The secret ending got me really excited, this is INCREDIBLE content, thank you Pointy Hat and your human familiars!
I really enjoyed this video and the entirety of kraken week! You did a great job
I am a bit disappointed that it got immediately overshadowed by previews for D&D 2024; I wish there’d been another week in between.
25:03 no way to convince all of them? Is that a CHALLENGE?!?!
thank you so much I can't believe the perfect timing of this because right now I have to prepare a session for my pirate campaign where ehm the last time they ehm really pissed off the kraken and they're only level 9, so i was trying to pick between just annihilating them or making it a pushover, thank you for this new input!!!!
