- D&D Krakens are a staple of pirate adventures and just general DnD sea shenanigans. But can a Kraken stand against the hat? No! That's why I made a whole adventure about them for Kraken Week!

This was a good video I liked the way you put a twist on the kraken and for adventures making it more fun and different!
We love you pointy hat, you (and yes even your intern human familiar) should take a well deserved break.

Community: “Yeah, let’s get crackin’”.
The volume of work you produce at such consistently, bleeding-edge high quality is astonishing, frankly HUMBLING for any creator to witness. Take care of yourself, get enough rest, as they say in glorious Nippon, “muri shinai de”. Your works and your effort are so greatly appreciated, even for those of us who can’t put together a group to run all these meticulously designed wonders. We thank you, and wish you a restful, recuperative break so you can keep giving us gold.
A scary water cat that demands devotion is just a scary water cat.
I was about to comment the same thing 😅
You can hear the tears as the hat lists how large the adventure is. I love it
Oddly, my favourite part of Kraken Week, and especially Storm Rising, is it's actually allowing all the water specific player options that seldom or never get used.

Going from Runesmith to Pointy Hat talking about the same stuff is so dope.
I'm going the other direction because RUclips apparently stopped recommending him to me despite Runesmith's videos being what got me into modern D&D RUclips??? Fucking algorithm.
Krakens are so under appreciated as monsters. And they can be reflavored very easily into any multitude of niches for a Subnautica Ecological Dead Zone-style deep sea horror experience.
Man, I totally would have loved to have been a part of this! I know I'm not what you would normally think of as a good fit but I ironically just made a video about a D&D supplement...
Anyway just dropping a comment for support. I love all you guys and I watch you, Ginny, Runesmith and a bunch of others all the time! 👀❤️

Ghosts of saltmarsh has a really cool adventure were you explore an abandoned ship which eventually gets attacked by an "octopus". Its not a fight, its an escape sequence, which works quite well for something this menacing.
When me and my friends were playing Ghosts of Saltmarsh, we managed to escape the giant octopus only for our barbarian to take a pot shot at it with our ship's ballista. Not only was the octopus' approach delayed by the sheer audacity of the attack, but it ended up hunting us for the rest of the campaign until we finally managed to kill it and sell the remains

Fun Fact on the inconsistent look of Krakens: That's because they're known for augmenting themselves magically and alchemically to suit their own wants and desires. The default octopus look is actually how they look while young, before modifying themselves. Honestly, in addition to other modifications, Krakens should be one of those monsters that has like 3-4 tables for extra abilities it has. Not only to buff them but to make them distinct from other Krakens. Here's just some ideas for some of those abilities:
-A Polymorph Form to appear as a Humanoid, akin to a Dragon.
-A Hypnotic effect across there body akin to some Cephalopods
-A Poison Effect on it's Tentacles similar to some deep sea fish or sea anemones
-A Telepathic Network ability letting it guide and control it's minions far easier.
-A Shell that's a mix of a Turtle Shell and Coral providing them both higher AC and some added coral powers
I could go on but that's probably enough
Pointy Hat: Look, if I wanted a deep dive on the lore of Krakens, I would've teamed up with MrRhexx and let him do all the nerdy stuff with my human familiar.
That's pretty cool. I commented on the other video about their modification, but they could be similar in physiology to electric eels so they'd generate lightning on their own.
@@drakunauger3324 thanks. I think it's a good way to justify them being a very variable species that can pull all kinds of weird oceanic biology nonsense with a magic twist to it
@@andrewdowns3673 unfortunately Mr Rhexx already covered Krakens

Thank you Pointy Hat and thank you Human Familiar Antonio. You make the community a better place.
I’ve run a few large monsters against my players, but not kraken yet. Biggest aquatic monster used so far is the massive aquatic variant of a blue dragon, unless you count the reanimated corpse of a titan that happened to be in the ocean. Kraken me, Pointy and friends!
A reanimated sea-Titan is such an unbelievably metal concept. I need to hear the story behind this.
Super proud of this enemy. Part of my world’s (Disney music cue) lore is an offshoot of Greek mythology, with the Olympians being worshipped and the titans being jerks, and an early baddie was a previously unknown son of Uranus thinking he’d get an easy victory and rule the world (probably justified since he was about a thousand feet tall), but he severely underestimated the tenacity of the heroes and the strength of the magic. All he got for his trouble was a dagger infused with the purest manifestation of death shoved up his nose into his brain which instantly killed the supposedly unkillable titan, and he fell into the northern sea to fester and rot for an eon. Cut to about a dozen millennia later, a new huge baddie is about to destroy the world, and the new heroes can only come up with one solution, the same death dagger still lodged in the titans brain cavity. Despite carefully planning the underwater expedition, the moment they removed the dagger the desiccated corpse started thrashing around and threatened all of civilization from tidal waves alone. After many deaths of their NPC minions and all but one of their ships shattered, they had to systematically dismember it bone by bone to keep it from regenerating fully and win without giving up the dagger again. Tartarus was able to get a much needed renovation from the bones, and the heroes were able to turn around and defeat the darker foe. The titan kinda had a water attack but technically more necrotic than aquatic, so don’t think he counts as a kraken…
I know pointy's alwaya excited to show off his homebrew content, but you can really hear the passion and excitement in his voice here.
As someone who lives in a place called Cape Coral. I am pleased about this location lmao

We see the labor you put into these videos and into the play material. Thank you for everything you make for us ❤❤❤❤❤

Wow. I cannot express how awestruck I am by your work this week, Pointy. Those siege rules are awesome. I always thought D&D needed a way to fight on a big scale; these rules can be applied to army v. army, giant robot fights, and ship to ship combat on the seas.
I just want to thank you very much for this. I’ve been struggling to come up with a backstory for a Kenku pirate I made for a oneshot that evolved into a campaign, and a whole week focused on the ocean is exactly what I needed to get some kind of inspiration. Also I just love giant sea monsters because the ocean is full of horrors and those horrors are neat.

If you ever do a fey-themed one of these, you should call it the Fesytival.
even just this video not counting community organization is sooo cool like one of the best “twists” you’ve done!
In my worlds krakens are master transmuters, especially of themselves. That's why they look like squids as kids but incredibly strange as adults. Many krakens specifically wish to emulate & become dragons, all to failure.
That's cool af
Its crazy that you provide huge amounts of content - books way better than the WotC adventures, rules for things they've never thought to provide...and you do it all for free!

Okay we've had Kraken week, but now I want crack and weed : a week of videos about consumable items.
Thank you so much for this!! I am working on an adventure with my lower level party where they are investigating strange sightings and the "thinning of the veil" between their low-magic world and the previously-unheard-of feywild. They dont know it yet, but portals are being broken open and terrifying creatures are coming through. This would be PERFECT for a sea-portal adventure!
(Should they survive this current one and decide to steal one of the king's ships and become pirates, which is something they HAVE discussed...)
Ya know what's wild?? Ginny & Hat's adventure is a really great analogy for modern Caribbean society. Previous king? Attempting to become decolonized from European masters. Yearly kraken and vast migration? Climate change and megaurbanization causing most locals to move to another country cuz there is little long term future staying home. (Every island is different, don't @ me)
1) I loved this.
2) I hope you all do this again next year.
3) Would recommend to others to check this out.
4) I hope you all do this again next year. Maybe even play a one shot game as an example of what an underwater game and encounter could look like.

Also don't tell @DungeonDudes but I am 100% adding this to my Drakkenheim campaign if my players make the mistake of going near the ocean.
I’ve been needing inspiration to get my home game started again. Thanks for helping me make memories with my family.
My DM had us fight an undead flying kracken in our air ship with skeletal pirates to boot. It was so much fun! Definitely looking forward to checking out the adventure!
OH BOY this is gonna go SO well into my next long-running campaign that is built around my own custom Aboleth ideas and the planeshopping "heroes of wherever we end up" vibe I'm going for. Thank you Pointy Hat for this incredible amount of work, you're a true godsend.
Another awesome video
A lot of what was presented is literally perfect for my campaign.
Just like in the adventure the main purpose of the campais gathering allies and assets To fight the BBEG Lich.
The players are at level six And I've gotten
the idea that they need an ally with navel assets. Cape coral is perfect for this. The characters already made a name for themselves trying to gather allies and going on adventures To help cities and kingdoms. So they can prove themselves in a council. They will lend their ships to them.
I'm also looking to cap the campaign At the end of the year with a massive fantasy battle Where the different armies and allies they made can contribute and I think the siege rules are great for that. And even better, I can introduce them now, and later on When I use them again for the big battle , they will already be familiar with them.
So again, thank you very much.
And congratulations for kraken weak.
I love all Pointy Hat videos!!! But this news made my year! I love ocean stuff and have been trying to figure out how to incorporate more underwater stuff into my campaigns for ages! And wow!
