Car trouble is so painful and quite scary whn it stops in the middle of the road eeek!!!!M akes you think and ponder about just how dependent country people are on their car! Hats off to you both for the resolve to push on and even do this presentation. Thank you ! As a country person too with one car Im totally understanding what you are feeling and hoping you have a kind wonderful mechanic to help you get mobile again
Thanks so much, Julie! We're so lucky to have found a great (and very kind!) mechanic. You're so right a car is very difficult to be without in a rural area ❤️
"Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart" -William Wordsworth So that being said, the kind of stationery we use is very important!! Thanks again Miranda for your recommendations!!
Thank you, Miranda, for another great selection of stationery and books. I so look forward to your Sunday recommendations, recipes and related ideas and information as well as your floral arrangements, backgrounds and your outfit of the day!
Love your video, as always! I've always read nonfiction (mostly business books and work-related) and never thought of reading novels, classics or fiction just for the "comfort" and joy of it-- until my daughter suggested your channel. Now I'm totally hooked and love to relax with my "comfort read." I can't wait for each new video to come so I can get some more book suggestions. We don't have any small bookstores by me anymore-- the closest one is a Barnes and Noble about a 2 hours' drive from me-- so I just ordered 3 of your recommendations from Blackwell's. Can't wait until they arrive! Thank you again! (PS. I hope your car's all fixed. I can't stand car trouble!)
Mishima 😍 one of the greatest Japanese writers and my favourite. I wouldn’t say that is his best book, but still pleasant. This was a lovely haul video, both the stationery and the books were so interesting and tempting! 💕
Great video thank you with some lovely books and stationery - I also enjoyed the beautiful flowers behind you! I hope you have the car back now and that you and your mum have a wonderful week x
Hello! Lovely book haul. Many of them are going on my list of wants , no big surprise there. 😂. Good luck with your car. Repairs can be a real pain in the you know where. 😉. Thank you Miranda. See you next time. 📚🤗💕
Thank you so much, Diane, for your generous support and good wishes they are so appreciated! So happy you found some additions to your wants list. Car back and fixed to our relief! Enjoy your Sunday ❤️📚💐
It's been lovely to have you back the last few weeks! I'm so glad that you got to have a little break though and I hope it went really well. Your videos are such a delight! Hope your car is able to be fixed soon . Hope you and your mom have a wonderful week ahead. :-)
Dear Miranda, thank you for this lovely vlog. The stationary is really pretty and the books sound interesting! You look so beautiful in your wonderful dress! Hopefully your car can be fixed! Have a lovely week, for me it's only 10 more days until the summerholidays begin and I"ll be on my way to London, Oxford, Stratford and Bath! I am so excited!!!❤
Thanks so much for your kind words, Inga! Yay for your English holiday countdown! You’ll need an extra suitcase for any bookish temptations, I’m sure. Excited for you ❤️📚🇬🇧
Thanks again for recommending “Uncle Paul.” Celia Fremlin gives the best description of damp that I’ve ever read, as follows: “And everything was damp, with that clammy, permanent dampness which has little to do with the season. Standing in this room, you felt that the dampness was its own, and had always been. Neither sun nor rain, neither winter nor summer, would ever lessen or increase it.”
Hi Miranda, I really enjoyed your video today, and I thought that your pink dress and hair band were very summery and lovely. Thanks for the recommendations on the stationery and books. I hope that the rest of the summer will be absolutely wonderful for you, too. Kindest wishes, Maria.
Oh my goodness, Miranda! So many wonderful books! I’ve started yet another list. I will definitely reread Hotel Du Lac with you in September. All best!
I love your book and stationery haul videos! I always find things I want to read. The Thousand Year Old Garden, Hotel du Lac, and Spam Tomorrow are going straight onto my TBR. Also, I hope you were able to get your car fixed!
Blackwells is terrific. Here in the states, I have found them to be the most reliable and affordable overseas bookseller, so I always appreciate your links. I was thrilled to receive notice this morning that Uncle Paul is in the post. After this delightful book haul, something tells me that Blackwells will be hearing from me again soon. 📚 Anita Brookner is such a gem. I'm eager now for a reread. It's good to hear that you are once again motoring safely! Thank you for the wonderful recommendations and the always inspiring stationery goodies.
Thank you Miranda! It was a pleasure to watch this video! As always so relaxing and educational. Thank you for your hard work and sharing so many new and newly republished books. ❤️🙏
Miranda thank you for sharing so many great books! Ive added them to my wish list tbr. I like the pretty cards too. The Comfort and Joy cookbooks in pinks looks pretty with your outfit.
I just love your videos Miranda! You know, I pay very close attention to the Emma Bridgewater mug you have in each episode! I try to figure out which one it is, then check to see if it is available at a lovely store I know! I just may travel there( it’s an hour away) and pick up one or two! Of course I need another mug like I need a hole in the head! Take care! ♥️🇨🇦
I'm so jealous of that Alice in Wonderland book you found. I have so many editions of the Alice books but I'm always looking out for more. All the best with the car, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Thank you Miranda for the lovely book haul and stationary. Felicity Buchanan’s designs are so lovely, I lust after her prints! Gosh, I think I’ll need that edition of Hotel du Lac. Luke Edward Hall’s work and aesthetic itself is inspiring. I just happened to finish Yellowface recently. It had me in its gripe until the last page. Can’t wait to add more books to my growing pile 📚
Hello Miranda, thank you for a great recommendation video. I am looking forward to the website reset and always love the way you enhance and enrich your online content, it is much appreciated. Happy reading, Teresa 📚♥
Hello Miranda, I’m very late catching up with your vlogs over the past couple of weeks, though it’s always a joy to hear about your latest reads. Tea and Hot Bombs sounds wonderful - definitely one to add to my reading list - and The Wheel Spins is another. I’ve watched The Lady Vanishes many times, but I’ve never read Ethel Lina White’s novel, so I’ll have to add this to the list too. I hope you have a lovely week.
On dear, I need to order more books from Blackwell! I have found them to be extraordinarily good at getting my orders to me timely and without hassle from UK to Western Oregon, USA. Many of the book suggestions are not available at my local independent bookstores though some are, of course, and some I can get at library. I do read a lot of ebooks, but appreciate reading actual paper books so much more. Always enjoy your Sunday chats. Hope your car troubles are behind you spin-off such a bother when one has plans! Very hot here so on my way to water the plants for friend who is out of town, then to pool for a dip, and home to escape heat with a good book of two. Have a lovely week🌹🌹one for you and the lovely Donna.
Thanks so much, Shelley! Very happy Blackwells has been useful and timely in getting the UK books you’re looking for that are hard to source in Western Oregon. Wishing you a lovely week and time for more reading in the cool! ❤️📚
Lovely video Miranda. The Thousand Year Old Garden sounds like it would be something I would enjoy. It's interesting that you say, "right up my street" and here on the East coast of Canada we say, "right up my alley".
Sorry to hear about your car and need to change plans - but this video was perfect. Lot's of beautiful cards to drool over and plenty of books to add to my ever growing want to read list. I've become a fan of the British Library series by female writers and am interested to hear your thoughts about your new selections. Enjoy your week! 💕
Lovely as always, Miranda. Another Sunday where I’m tempted to buy everything on your list! But I think I’ll start with Tea and Hot Bombs. Fingers crossed your car is in good repair and the bill wasn’t too bad. ❤
I read The hours before dawn a couple of years ago and loved it. I’ve just received Uncle Paul in the post and I’m looking forward to that and to finding more of her books.
oh no being w/out a car can be stressful and very unconvinced . . hope you get your car back really soon . . tfs the beautiful cards and your latest books 📚 . . I recently ordered (ebay) A Nature Poem for Every Winter Evening so so ready for summer to end . . have a wonderful day happy reading 📖 ❤🙋♀️🦋🌻🪻💐🌷🌺
I absolutely adore Blackwells in Oxford :) and thank you so much for another much awaited vlog, Miranda. I think I ll wait until I have read The Dictionary of Lost Words first also before The Bookbinder of Jericho.
The stationery is beautiful and I especially love the lemon and books and floral cards. All of the books sound wonderful and they have such gorgeous covers. And the Jane Austen Escape Room is heading the list🥰 I hope you have a lovely week ahead💕
Dear Miranda, it's so nice to see you back here 🙏🤩 Best of luck in getting the car back! Lovely video, you made me discover gray ladies books, among other things. Have a nice week ahead, and happy reading! Greetings from warm Prague 🌞🌻
Really enjoyed Uncle Paul. Yellowface is quite something (liked the beginning more than the end) curious to see what you think of the latter). I love the Lady Vanishes movie - need that book! 😊
I have been looking forward to this Sunday evening as this is when I usually catch up with your newest one 😊 Thank you for this cosy chat and the recommendations, always a pleasure to watch you talk books 👍hope you got your car fixed now. Have a great week and see you next weekend 🤗
What a wonderful selection of books! I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about them and the note cards. I love note cards as well. I will definitely order some of these books as they sounds so interesting. I hope you get you car back so you can be out and about again. Really enjoyed today. 😊
I love the stationery selection and looking forward to hear your reviews of Beautiful Star and Yellowface as they sound really good. Ive just read The Glovemaker by Ann Weisgarber which I think you previously mentioned and really enjoyed it so have reserved another of her novels from my local library which I try to support as much as possible.
Thank you Miranda! 😊 I hope you managed to meet up with your friend and have a wonderful catch up. I’m thrilled that you are already enjoying using the the planners, and that they are helping you to stay organised 🌸 🥰 Hope you have a great week! X
Your videos are looked forward to every Sunday. I just received my Starsmead Bookbinding order and I’m so pleased with them. I found choosing my patterns took forever. I just couldn’t decide they are all so lovely. I am gifting one to my bf along with your The Summer Commonplace Book which I printed out for her as well. I look forward to start with my entries. Thanks Miranda you’re the best 😘
Oh, Ethel Lina White is a wonderful author! I read her mystery Some Must Watch which was filmed as The Spiral Staircase. They’re publishing some great books recently. I found their earlier books just average. The Golden Age is my favourite mystery era.
I'm interested in your take on Yellowface by R. F. Kuang. I read Babel first and adored it! I'm usually not into Fantasy but Kuang did an amazing job. Yellowface is completely different style of writing. I loved The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pio Williams. I can't wait to read her latest.
Beautiful stationery selections Miranda. I love the covers of the British Library Crime Classics, really want to read The Wheel Spins - think I’ve seen the Hitchcock film quite a few years ago! I’ve heard lots of good things about The Bookbinder of Jericho. Hope you get your car fixed and are back on the road soon!
I just returned from a visit to Boston (with a side trip to Vermont) and couldn't wait to catch up on your latest video! I am sorry for your car worries! funny enough I also had sudden car issues last week and was also spending the week trying to figure out if I could follow through with set plans. So stressful, so thank you so much for getting a video out for all of us regardless! Also, just wanted to let you know that while in Vermont I was browsing in a used bookstore and found a gorgeous copy of The Wind Boy by Ethel Cook Eliot you spoke about some videos back! I am excited to read it! Jummy at the River School looks FANTASTIC! We just read Anna Hibiscus by Atinuke (also Nigerian) and found it absolutely delightful! Have a lovely week!🥰
How lovely to spend some time in Boston and Vermont! Happy to read your car issues were resolved too. So glad you enjoyed the video, and how wonderful you found one of the older editions of The Wind Boy! I do hope you enjoy Jummy too! ❤️ 📚
Miranda, I can certainly commiserate with you on the auto problems as I just got my car back a few days ago after nearly a MONTH in the shop (who knew getting correct parts shipped could be so difficult lol), and let me tell you, I will NEVER take the blessing of having my own car for granted again! Here's hoping your car is back to you and Donna much more quickly 🙏 Beautiful stationery and books 📚
I did not realize they had an updated copy of As the Wheel Spins! Thank you so much for sharing! That is one of my all-time favorite novels and I have an old copy, but I'm in desperate need for another. It's so hard to find! And thanks for including the link to Blackwell's, since I'm in the states and it's a little more difficult to get ahold of some of these.
Hi Miranda, as an avid Jane Austen fan myself, I wanted to recommend the Lucy Worsley biography, ‘Jane Austen at Home ‘ perhaps you have read it already! I am just finishing it and enjoyed it so much. I shall have to purchase some of the lovely stationery cards you recommend. Thank you for all the lovely recommendations
At least one book you mention in each video ends up on my reading list. Last week it was Uncle Paul. I really enjoyed stepping into that time and, no, the ending wasn't what I expected. This week it will be Beautiful Star and The Hours before Dawn. I only wish I could read faster. Good luck with the car.
Wonderful vlog. I’ve just come back from my holiday in Yorkshire. I loved visiting the little bookshops, particularly the 2nd hand bookshop in Pickering and the Whitby Book shop. Have you visited them? 📚🌳🌲
Did you get a chance to read "Beautiful Star?" I just finished it, and it was, uh, interesting! Not a typical "comfort" read, but I'm glad I read it. I'm going to start on "Uncle Paul" next!
I finally read Rebecca and watched the mini series free on RUclips with Charles Dance and Diana Rigg, Emilia Fox-both just excellent. Mood, ambience, dark Smokey suspense that only a classic British author can create. On a wildly different noteI a, hearing a lot about the 4th Wind by Yarros-fantastical and romance-both not my genre but may just give it a go. Also, just bought Postcard. Fictional but reads like non fiction. Big reviews.
Thanks Amanda I can certainly empathise with the car trouble. I drove all the way down to Falmouth from the north east to stay with a friend and although the car didn’t break down , warning lights appeared and I had to get it into a garage which wasn’t easy in order to be able to get home. Stressful! Thanks for all your recommendations. I’ve made a note of some of them. If you aren’t familiar with Luke Edward Hall he is worth exploring. One of my fav artists and designers. He lives in a fab cottage in the Cotswolds and has some you tube videos. ruclips.net/video/5qNdrTkkw6o/видео.html.

I'm so happy you enjoyed it!I've heard both expressions, but it's so interesting that "alley" is used on the Canadian East coast ❤️

Wonderful!❤️📚
Oh, Ethel Lina White is a wonderful author! I read her mystery Some Must Watch which was filmed as The Spiral Staircase. They’re publishing some great books recently. I found their earlier books just average. The Golden Age is my favourite mystery era.
I must look out for more books by her, I can see, Deb! ❤️📚
🎯Wonderful upload,Miranda.Your ideas &,book recommendations are always appreciated.Thanks.♾️💐🌟
Thank you for your kind words! ❤️📚

I’m taking notes for the stationery section lol
Beautiful stationery selections Miranda. I love the covers of the British Library Crime Classics, really want to read The Wheel Spins - think I’ve seen the Hitchcock film quite a few years ago! I’ve heard lots of good things about The Bookbinder of Jericho. Hope you get your car fixed and are back on the road soon!
All fixed now, Lucy! Thanks so much. The book is quite different from the Hitchcock film, but very good too! ❤️📚
Here's hoping your car is back to you and Donna much more quickly 🙏
Beautiful stationery and books 📚
Poor you! Nearly a month😲! No we were much more fortunate- all fixed and car returned ❤️
@@MirandaMills yayy, that's great to hear 💜
I did not realize they had an updated copy of As the Wheel Spins! Thank you so much for sharing! That is one of my all-time favorite novels and I have an old copy, but I'm in desperate need for another. It's so hard to find! And thanks for including the link to Blackwell's, since I'm in the states and it's a little more difficult to get ahold of some of these.
Yes, it only just came out, Mitzi! So glad the Blackwells’ links are helpful ❤️📚
So sorry that your car broke down! That's always so disconcerting. Understatement. Fingers-crossed that you get it back today!
Thank you! Car back now 😅❤️
Great Haul!
So glad you enjoyed it, Jackie! ❤️📚
I have read it already, yes. I enjoyed it too! Thank you, Mandy! ❤️
YOu are my favorite on RUclips i feel like we been friends forever. You and your mum are the best! Love reading with you
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m so happy you enjoy the videos! ❤️📚
Lovely book chat Miranda! Hope your car is back in commission!
Thanks so much, Anita! All fixed, thank goodness! 😊❤️
Very happy you enjoyed the video - so agree about the ending of Uncle Paul! Thank you - car fixed now, all ok! ❤️📚
Wonderful vlog. I’ve just come back from my holiday in Yorkshire. I loved visiting the little bookshops, particularly the 2nd hand bookshop in Pickering and the Whitby Book shop. Have you visited them? 📚🌳🌲
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed some book shopping in Yorkshire! I love the Whitby one, but haven’t been to the Pickering one. Will add to my list!❤️📚
Did you get a chance to read "Beautiful Star?" I just finished it, and it was, uh, interesting! Not a typical "comfort" read, but I'm glad I read it. I'm going to start on "Uncle Paul" next!
Extra fingers crossed for the return of your car :-)
Thanks so much! All fixed now, thank goodness 😊❤️
❤❤❤
Do you have any Emma Bridgewater cushions?
No, not yet anyway 😊
I finally read Rebecca and watched the mini series free on RUclips with Charles Dance and Diana Rigg, Emilia Fox-both just excellent. Mood, ambience, dark Smokey suspense that only a classic British author can create. On a wildly different noteI a, hearing a lot about the 4th Wind by Yarros-fantastical and romance-both not my genre but may just give it a go. Also, just bought Postcard. Fictional but reads like non fiction. Big reviews.
Love Rebecca! Glad you enjoyed it too! ❤️📚
You might enjoy - Growing Up with the Impressionists: The Diary of Julie Manet
Yes, one to definitely look out for - you're right, Betty! ❤️📚
