Here is my verdict Video:iphone Details and shadows:Sony Highlights;iphone Portrait:iphone Night vid:sony Colours and white balance:Sony without any doubt Night shots:sony(surprisingly much better) If sony could adjust highlights better then sony would be the best
Oh my gosh Sony's night shots are so clean. It doesn't have that weird fogging effect like the iPhones. Truly looks like you get a sharper and more detailed images.
This is so far the most comprehensive review I have seen about Xperia 1 III and what a shocking surprise how it performs in low light both photo and video. Sony phone cameras are notorious for their night photos but apparently the fastest sensor they used here for the main camera exceeded my expectation. Sensor speed means fastest readout used for auto focus calculations that enabled it to do 20 fps continuous AF, is repurposed to stack multiple image data similar to Google's HDR plus on Pixel for cleaner low light output and better dynamic range. You can see that there is a huge improvement at a software level although you need Sony app to take full advantage of it. The color science is on point as well.
If selfies are not deal-breakers fro you, Sony offers a better overall quality, plus night capabilities are far superior. Hopefully these improvements are also implemented on the Xperia 1 ii!
If I had to pick one winner for night video, I'd hands down pick the Sony for one big reason; it does pick light way better, in a sense that it does not wash out any dark area. Light stays where it is so we can enjoy other areas. The iPhone creates too much of a light halo imo
That's because it's only 24mm equivalent. Which is just a standard wide. iPhone has 13mm (ultra wide). That's naturally going to create more distortion.
Tbh, Sony performed a way better night video, and even the day time video I even noticed better dynamic range and it looked more cinematic. Correct me if I'm wrong, Sony seems to have a bright future with this consistency, hopefully their marketing strategy won't pull them down.
I found Sony to be superior only in night videos and daylight photos. Nothing Filmic pro can't fix though. It looked cinematic because it was washed-out.
If you're thinking about getting into photography or videography, then maybe Sony is the way to go. You can learn how to use all the settings in their pro app before purchasing an expensive camera
To be fair at that point for the price of the 1 III you could just buy a low-mid range phone (maybe the 10 III or whatever you prefer) and spend the rest on an entry level camera like the M50 and a decent lens.
The Zeiss T* coating really shines at night. I think the iPhone was able to suppress lens flare in photos using software but when it comes to video, it shows the real deal.
here in Russia Sony in half a year will cost 700-800 bucks on the secondary .. I think in general. this is one of the best phones .. but to each his own .. but there is something to be proud of Sony ". unlike the iPhone, which every year plus, minus do the same
Wow! A perfect comparison! This guy made me so confident about my choice!! Xperia 1 iii it is..! As he mentioned about Zeiss in day light video, to me, it seems like Zeiss optics is adding some magic as well into the sony true night mode!! A video should be a window to go back to the actual "real" event time not some gimmicky over saturated dream world. Looking at the night video, felt so true and human eye like. Sony nailed it as it always did. I wish I could purchase this phone in India!!! Come on Sony!!! Come back to India!!!!
Xperia 1iii was better on night mode videos compared to the iPhone 12 pro Max because it had: less lens flaring Better overall exposure Shadows were clearer and exposed well More detailed and sharper image Less Noise Deeper blacks More vibrant colors
@@HansTechTalk Yes you did a great job. What settings did you mainly change in daylight shots? And did you force HDR on all shots, even nighttime? I just want to learn what settings to change in the different modes to achieve this picture quality on the Xperia.

The Sony records clearer video at night, less lens flare, more contrast. It did focus hunt at one point however whereas the iPhone stayed good. Overall from the footage we saw, it would seem the Sony is better in night video.
Being a sony fanboy since like forever, I don't really care about the cameras shortcomings. Sony is sony and its enough to keep me wanting more devices from them. Im using an xz premium and watching this in sharp 2160p. Great reviews hoping to win one!

@@HansTechTalk the Iphone adjust the picture you take automatically thats why photo on iphone are well saturated with good dynamic range. on the sony everything is manually and thats why you got better pictures on the pro app than the iphone.
I think people should go for what they use the most, if you take a lot of video in day light, selfies or prefer the attractive look of photos with oversaturated colors, the best would be the iphone. For those who prefer night shots and sharp photos with natural colors, the xperia is the better choice. For me, i'm with sony. Great video, man, thanks!
Sony is different that's what i like, no artificial sharpening, best is the build and outer look, but i surely think sony should cut the long aspect ratio out and give it a little width it will be perfect. Of course shout out to u for comparing.,the night shots were a surprise
The Sony definitely seems to have been better in the night video. More natural looking, with greater detail and less lens flare and hazing around light sources. It also seems to maintain the color accuracy even at night. The iPhone video seems flatter and especially with the boat's purple lighting, the entire scene looks slightly purple. The far bridge in that clip changed colors pretty significantly as the boat moved away, whereas on the Sony, the bridge remained pretty constant in its coloring.
One of the best features regarding Sony phones is the dedicated camera button on the side of the phone. It does get mentioned in some reviews but nobody ever mentions the two-stage or half press feature. It's a feature which is common to most compact cameras and all dslr cameras. This allows the photographer to lock the exposure and focus whilst recomposing the frame. A great and simple tool when you know how to use it, which, for me, pushes the Xperia 1 even further ahead of any other mobile phone.
Personally I liked the main cam photos on the Xperia, looked natural. The Zeiss Coating made a good difference in night time just like we saw on Vivo X60 series. The rest hands down, iphone wins. Han bro you were super quick to uploading this and gr8 comparison as always❤️
Regarding the night video scene.. It is better in xperia 1iii because the better control of light and exposure with true colour of black rather than the processed black in iPhone 12 pro max
In Night Mode videos - Xperia 1 iii did a great job since its lense is optimized for low light performance to capture more light to make everything clean & clear + the OIS did its job perfectly as well. (Sony Always consider on low light photography in recent times)
Nice review.... however I miss a key selling point in favour of the Xperia and that's the AF capabilities! It has a phasedetection AF that's THE best of any smartphone!!!!! Taking pictures of fast moving objects etc, the Xperia is a clear winner!!!!
My first phone was an Xperia. I really wish they sold Xperias in India. Damn that night video in the 1iii was astonishingly good! The stability, clarity and details along with no light flares blew my mind!
isn’t xperia available in india unofficially also? like in Bangladesh someone have to buy phone official authorise seller & there is no sony here...Don't know about the system in india
@@sakifshadman4204 very sad. I really miss the close to reality photos the Xperias' deliver. All phones nowadays tend to boost color and contrast just to make it eye catchy.
if you need the right colors and as little AI intervention as possible, then welcome to Sony's camp, and if you need photos for Instagram without additional processing, then you should Apple ... But I am very glad for Sony that they have learned to listen to their customer!
For daytime videos, the iPhone wins. It picked up more details compared to the Xperia 1III. For night videos, however, the Xperia wins, with the phone capturing a lot of the nice details (the lights and the sceneries were clear to see).
Xperia 1 iii, finally landed in some worthy hands, Thank you for making such a detailed camera comparison video, I've watched so many reviews for this phone, but none of them were using the sony's camera the way it's intended to be used, they all were just testing it on the basic mode. The difference between mark iii and 12pro max is like day and night (Literally speaking), iPhone is always trying to squeeze as much light as possible in night mode, that it actually looks like a day shot, While Xperia produces that true natural colors and perfectly sharp photos (If using the proper settings). For me, Xperia was better at almost every instance, except the front camera.
The Xperia camera true capabilities shine when u know how to use the pro camera app. This has been proven when a professional cameraman use xperia 1iii and captures beautiful pictures.
tbh Sony did the best at Night Mode, the noise was less, details were sharp and crispy, Even it looked more natural than iPhone, In iPhone lights were blown out.
Both had their pros & cons, For potrait, selfies iPhone was ahed of sony & iPhone's Video recording was alwz been legendary Sony was detailed & produced accurate colour which potraid reality & sony was extraordinary in low night the night mode was amazing from sony... So the verdict is 'Sony' is the overall winner from my side ✌️ & would love to watch the night mode battle between them Han ❤️
@ selfie camera is made from samsung sensor that why it look garbage i don't know what kind of contract they had with Samsung but definitely they will change in Xperia 1iv. with xperia 1iv they will fix all the issues and will get back in competative track
Thank you for making this video review of the Xperia 1 iii vs the iphone 12 pro. I want to emphasized on how Sony is gradually doing improving and evolving each time it releases a phone. I'm not here to knock iphone, after all I did once use an iphone and has potential to take some great pictures. Having that said, I've been using Xperia phones for some time and love how Sony has given the consumer a dedicated shutter speed button when it comes to take pictures. This review shows Sony conceiving some advantages over the iphone 12 Pro Max when it comes to night pictures, less distortion and even more accurate colors than previous Sony models of course. There were some falls coming from Xperia 1 iii like the video taken during the afternoon, however, where it did stand out was when shooting during the night. My verdict, will have to be Xperia 1 iii over the iphone 12 Pro Max Since, these pictures were taken with Auto, I would had liked to see the comparison of using Sony's Camera Pro App vs Iphone dedicated Pro App. Maybe, for next time? Thank you again for this video.
Sony night shots are really great. But I understand they are not "auto", which is a hassle. All in all, Sony should put more emphasis on auto mode, scene optimization and AI and then their phones will be perfect. Oh, and a front camera that doesn't suck.
He did say that he used shutter priority mode, meaning he changed only the exposur time /shutterspeed. On iPhone, he did exactly the same. Meaning if you say that the Sony wasn't in Auto mode, the iPhone wasn't either. Can agree with you on the front camera xd
Amazing how many people don't really know SONY's camera and cinematography DNA. Most of the Hollywood films are produced with SONY. SONY cameras on their phones take raw images and then allow you to edit as desired, whereas the iPhone and other smartphones take pictures with artificial enhancements at the time of the shot. Other than the selfie camera, the SONY is a superior camera phone to anything else on the market. Most people never figure that out, because they don't know how to take full advantage of the features. People brag about iPhone and Samsung Galaxy cameras, but forget SONY has been a top-tier camera maker for decades.
Awesome video! These comparisons are really 50/50 it seems. I mean, either phone comes out looking excellent. Just sometimes the other one looks more excellent :)
5:38 I don't like how the iPhone cuts out the sun like this. Loses the feeling of being flooded with light. When I take a RAW photo with my iPhone I can keep the natural looking sun with the same or better dynamic range because the shadows won't be crushed.
Nice comparison han. I agree, the 1 iii shocked me with the night mode performance. It was a close battle, but in the end I'd say the iPhone is the overall better camera package. I'm a xperia user, had both the xperia 1 & xperia 1 ii. But I think I'm gonna skip the 1 iii because they didn't improve the faulty front camera for the 3rd year now, & that price. Great comparison, keep up the good reviews. 👍
Excellent comparison video! Overall I liked the Sony results better-surprisingly in many cases. I think iPhone portraits are still better all around-maybe they will improve with the *rumored* new Sony selfie camera sensor on the Xperia 1 IV, but for now iPhone is the clear winner there. On video, I was split, but think iPhone probably wins that overall. But Sony's white balance, color, and saturation is much more true to life, and I prefer that to the iPhone's artificial looking color boost. Really surprised and excited for how nicely Sony performed at night... and YES! would love to see an all-night comparison. Particularly I would love to see live music filmed indoors - difficult light situation in the dark, with intermittently bright backlighting coming from behind the subjects. Good test for microphone audio clipping as well!
logo on Picture @14:14 was it changing Color, if not Xperia done a remarkable Job. On iphine its straight red, but xperia it is a contrast od red and Orange.
Wow! Sony impressed me this time. iPhones are considered to be the king of night mode but Sony has taken the crown this time. If it's taken on Pro mode it would put any smartphones to shame.
Thank you for making this video review of the Xperia 1 iii vs the iphone 12 pro. Sony performed a way better in night video, and even the day time video. I even noticed better dynamic range and it looked more cinematic. Great video bhai thanks for the video!
I was amazed seeing the pictures taken with the Xperia III. I expected the phone to be much below the Iphone, but it was not! Well done on that Sony! What Sony should focus on is the video quality(because it fades away in comparison wit Iphone), and selfie camera.
In my opinion the IPhone has better dynamic range in daytime photos and better day time video. Other than that I think the Xperia won in every other scenario (except selfies as expected), especially in night time photography and video, it had almost no noise, balanced exposure, details in the shadows while not blowing up any highlights!
4k video I was actually surprised 😯 on Sony xperia 1 iii night 4k video it's better compared to iphone 12 pro max that looks hazy and a lot of lens flare, and xperia 1 iii have better shadow details, exposure and less noise, in stabilization they looks similar. Sony xperia 1 iii also look saturated compared to iphone 12 pro max. You can easily choose a winner from that at a first glance Sony xperia 1 iii crushed iphone 12 pro max in night video. Daylight photography sony offer really good photos with better shadow details and sharpness with true to life colors while iphone 12 pro max with bump in colors with warm tone (california tone🤣🤣). Selfie it's clearly a win on iphone no comment 😁🤣. if I choose from these two I will go with Xperia other than camera it has better display with a headphone jack ❤️❤️❤️. I love to see the battle of the three beast focused on night photography I'm betting on Sony xperia 1 iii though 😁
Can't wait to watch this manual vs auto mode fight, from the thumbnail sony selfie lack dynamic range I think they should focus on this department because other brands uses sony sensors and offer good dynamic range. To think about it does sony only rely on their hardware and lack in software processing?🤔 Pixel 3 have old sensor and offer good dynamic range. 😁
They do have the best camera app and it's called photo pro, I will take that over fake over saturated camera apps on other phones....photo pro and cinema display are the software
That 4k recording from Sony is a videographers dream. At least the daytime 4k recording. The low contrast look is what we are looking for in a video recording. I wish this phone was on a more competent videographers hand. Like, the bitrate, filmic pro, log footage. 10bit recording, editing, with nd filters, gimbals and so on.
@@HansTechTalk Totally agree, but I'm certain that people that buy this phone will have some knowledge about taking photos and videos. Not everyone will pay that kind of money. As it is right now one of the most expensive phones out there.
@@webinatic216 surely they Won't buy it for the professional videography issue if they do they Won't get the expected outcome rather DSLR would the perfect choice for them
First of all, great detailed comparison video. Both cameras did well with the day time still images, better details with the xperia 1iii especially when you zoom in. But when it comes to video under a lot of light the 12pro max obviously has the better dynamic range, white balance and colour reproduction, the sony's looks a bit washed out if you asked me. Finally night mode on the sony is finally winning thanks to its zeiss t cotted lenses, it has cleaner videos and pictures, it handles the lights in the shots better and it has less noise in the shadows, the i phone tries to brighten the footage making it have some kind of blur during video recording and struggles with light processing in the still shots. I think overall the sony Xperia 1iii wins this comparison, seeing that you can also actually use the manual cameras pro app to try and sought out were its lucking.
The problem with iphone is oversaturation and a very warm white balance. After iphone 7 which was very natural and accurate, apparently apple started copying Samsung's image processing and color science.
I've never used either phones but after watching this video I think that Xperia won in all comparisons except selfie. The selfie is really bad. I'm shocked with night pictures and videos. I never thought a phone can beat the IPhone in those categories. Finally I think I should win because I can't afford either and I'm sooooo in love with the Xperia 1iii right now. Keep up the good work. Amazing video my friend ❤️
I'm an Android user, I have the note 10 plus, I use to have Sony but here in Latin America does not exist anymore. I would like to have the mark 3 but I think is to expensive to get it online and is to difficult to get it here in Latin America as well. I also had the iphone 11 pro max and I did like it a lot because of the quality video and stabilization, and the pictures over roll were good as well. Sony has a great camera but the camera app is more for professionals, and a professional rathers a DSLR camera instead of the phone. Most of the profesionals have a iPhone for personal device and a Sony, Nikon or Cannon camera for work. I think that the strategy for sony should be make it easier to use to everyone, and I'm pretty sure that Sony will be back in most of the places around the world with their phones.
With the exception of 4k video, the Xperia beat the iPhone in all categories. It crushed the iPhone in nighttime photos. I wonder if the Xperia's contrast in 4K will be addressed before retail shipping. I also wonder if cinema pro mode would change things for the better.

I'd like to see how the focus tracking works for action shots/pets/kids running around. No one ever tests this.

So true. 20fps with eye detection and real-time tracking function!

if you need the right colors and as little AI intervention as possible, then welcome to Sony's camp, and if you need photos for Instagram without additional processing, then you should Apple ...

Professionals can take stunning photos with iPhone 5. There's an award-winning movie filmed with iPhone 5.
Sony xperiaʼs photoʼs has natural color as reality. This is the best cameraphone.you can take movie with this fantastic phone🤩
tbh Sony did the best at Night Mode, the noise was less, details were sharp and crispy, Even it looked more natural than iPhone, In iPhone lights were blown out.

New here, underrated channel 💯

Oh, and a front camera that doesn't suck.
well detailed one 👍
He did say that he used shutter priority mode, meaning he changed only the exposur time /shutterspeed. On iPhone, he did exactly the same. Meaning if you say that the Sony wasn't in Auto mode, the iPhone wasn't either.
Can agree with you on the front camera xd
@@fa14bi-78 agree, selfie hope they will fix it.
Colour, night time photo ,night video are very good 🔥
iPhone camera always best 0:52 see the dynamic range
Thanks for watching!
Hey, I am from India and I like your comparison videos..
Glad you like them!

Wow! Sony impressed me this time. iPhones are considered to be the king of night mode but Sony has taken the crown this time. If it's taken on Pro mode it would put any smartphones to shame.
Thank you for making this video review of the Xperia 1 iii vs the iphone 12 pro.
Sony performed a way better in night video,
and even the day time video.
Other than that I think the Xperia won in every other scenario (except selfies as expected), especially in night time photography and video, it had almost no noise, balanced exposure, details in the shadows while not blowing up any highlights!
thanks for sharing your opinion 😇
4k video
I was actually surprised 😯 on Sony xperia 1 iii night 4k video it's better compared to iphone 12 pro max that looks hazy and a lot of lens flare, and xperia 1 iii have better shadow details, exposure and less noise, in stabilization they looks similar.

It's only the front camera having poor dynamic range
Xperia 1 iii Selfie camera using Samsung sensor
I take back my comment 😂 Sony xperia 1 iii actually have better software with pro level algorithm 😁🤣😂 except with their selfie🤣
They do have the best camera app and it's called photo pro, I will take that over fake over saturated camera apps on other phones....photo pro and cinema display are the software
It's only like that cuz of portrait mode, otherwise the dynamic range is fine
Which City it is?
That 4k recording from Sony is a videographers dream. At least the daytime 4k recording. The low contrast look is what we are looking for in a video recording. I wish this phone was on a more competent videographers hand. Like, the bitrate, filmic pro, log footage. 10bit recording, editing, with nd filters, gimbals and so on.
The poroblem is, almost 99% of the users are not as professional as you wish
most of the people Don't use their phone as a pro....
& a professional surely wouldn’t use a sony phone without using a dslr
the comparison was ment for the common folks not for professionals 🙂

Sony did better because Han used Manual mode on Sony, in Auto/Basic mode Xperia sucks.
@@bhatianayan he says in the video he used basic mode in many situations
So which one you think was better han
Excellent comparison as always, for me Sony all the way. I am really surprised to see it perform well in night mode photos and videos.
