    Just want you to know I implemented your recommended system with the ATEM Studio HD and 3 R800s. Your videos helped me immensely. Even the one with the AJA Level A/B garbled screen was critically important for me. Thank you for making your videos! I am not all that impressed with the R800 optics, but this is a great place to start. Ideally I would like to use a DSLR for my wide angle shot. As for the ATEM Studio HD, wow; that is expensive and it seems to be well worth it. I also got a hyperdeck mini to record the program so I can edit and charge for the replays. Thanks again!

    Great tutorial-thank you Stephen! We've implemented a fairly simple streaming setup at our small church with the ATEM TV Studio HD. The one issue we're experiencing is low audio levels coming in through the XLR inputs on the ATEM. Our mic signals are fed into the ATEM from Aux outs from a Soundcraft SI Expression mixer. All other signals (laptop presentation, prerecorded videos) come embedded in the SDI and HDMI inputs, audio levels are strong with no problems. The Soundcraft mixer aux outs have never had a problem providing adequate output levels into amps for floor wedges, assistive listening, etc. I wonder if the ATEM XLR inputs need additional preamplification.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  4 года назад

      Usually what is happening is you need a higher average level, but can't turn up more because your peak levels are too high, the solution is compression at several stages so you can bring your average level up.

    • @danmochizuki4780
      @danmochizuki4780 4 года назад

      I have viewed your video on multiple stages of compression using Waves DAW and plugins. I am not likely to go to that level of involvement in my church, with the AV team being all volunteer/part time and our service is mostly non-musical. Would you have a recommendation on a simpler method of raising and compressing the output from the aux out of my mixer prior to feeding into the ATEM? Thank you again!

I can see the multiview windows, the names of the cameras... but I don’t see any image of what my cameras see. Do you know why is that ? I was thinking of the hdmi câble maybe... and if I want to use the SGI multiview output, do I need to do a special setting into the Atem or not ? I’ve tried this but nothing appears on my tv. Thanks a lot !

    Steven, I Am running a setup that consist of: DN-312X Audio Mixer, BM 1 M/E Prod. Studio 4k Switcher, and a BM Web presenter. The production setup for the event consist of 3 cameras running SDI connection, Podium microphone XLR. How should my audio configuration look? Should I run the -Mic XLR straight to the mixer then to the ATEM switcher and then to the Web presenter? Or - Mic XLR to the ATEM switcher then to the Audio mixer then to the web presenter? There IS ALSO audio coming from the cameras via SDI that is not needed, yet the ATEM switcher is seeing it. Will that audio feed get utilized or do I need to turn it off on the cameras? I hope this question made sense and appreciate any direction/feedback that you can give. Thanks

    Hi Steven, I'm am artist trying to set up a two or maybe three camera setup to use for both RUclips and live streaming on Facebook and came across your RUclips channel. I have watched several of your videos and WOW - I'm thankful I found you. Obviously I'm not a place of worship but your solutions to do what I would like to do seems like it would work for me and would appreciate very much if you could let me know what setup you would use to do what I just described. I already have a Canon Vixia HF R72 and plan on purchasing another except the 800. I will use one camera placed as an overhead camera over my painting which will show the painting as I am doing it along with my painting palette and mixing area. I would like the other camera to show me as I am painting.
    Can I use the AJA U-TAP computer interface - SDI - as you suggest or do you recommend a different one. Should I use the OBS software as well? As far as a video switcher, would the ATEM work for me or do you recommend a different switcher. I'm not a tech guru but you make creating the setups look so easy to put together, which I appreciate, I think I can put the equipment together ok and probably will need a tech savvy person to help me set up the software stuff.
    Thank you very much for your videos and I would seriously appreciate your advice on the above. Thanking you in advance, Gene

    Hi Steven, we're using this exact setup (as per your recommendation) at our church. This includes the ATEM Television Studio HD, U-TAP SDI and Canon VIXIA HF R800 Camcorders. We're using OBS on Windows 10. We managed to get everything configured correctly, but the audio from the soundboard to the computer is not working. We have confirmed the audio is working on the switcher with headphones plugged into the audio jack. However, we can't hear the audio when plugging the headphones into the PC. The audio from the soundboard is plugged into audio port 1 and the U-Tap in plugged into PGM. As a workaround, we've plugged a cable from the switcher headphone jack to the microphone in on the PC., This actually works, but the audio quality is inferior. Can you think of any reason why the audio isn't working from the switcher through the U-Tap to the computer via USB?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 лет назад

      Try this, in OBS on the u-tap in the source, go to it's properties (gear icon in source panel) and scroll to the bottom of the properties. They're will be a check box something like use another audio device, check that and in the drop down box that appears, just select the u-tap.

      @@BallastMedia Following up on this topic. Your suggestion did work, thank you! We're now getting sound through the PC. However, when comparing the sound output with headphones, the quality through the video switcher is much cleaner and sharper than through the PC. We have checked our cable connections between the switcher and computer. Everything is well-seated and securely fastened. We have tried switching USB ports on the back of the PC, but it didn't make a difference. Do you have any suggestions to improve the sound quality from the video switcher through the u-tap to the computer? Perhaps it's sound driver related.

      I'm wondering if you have any advice for connecting an analog projector (mounted to the ceiling) to the ATEM as another video feed source. We want to share the slides shown during the sermon with the streaming audience. We tried a cheap VGA to HDMI adapter, but the ATEM doesn't recognize the signal. Do you know of a video converter capable of taking an analog signal and converting it to something the ATEM will recognize (via HTMI or SDI)? Something like the UTAP would be awesome. Hi Stephen, so if I want to live stream from two cameras (using a program like OBS on my PC), and I buy an ATEM switcher, I should buy AJA U-Tap SDI and not the U-Tap HDMI? I see there is a sort of HDMI output on the ATEM, but it's a multiview output... That's not made for streaming with two cameras using software like OBS?
    The thing is, one of my cameras will be Canon 80D, and if I use it alone, I should use it with U-Tap HDMI, so I'd have to buy both the SDI and the HDMI version of the U-Tap if I want to use it both alone, and with another camera via the ATEM. Unless there's a video interface that has both HDMI and SDI inputs, and supports any format, like the U-Tap...
    Instead of buying an ATEM switcher, maybe it's best to buy two video interfaces? Maybe both the Canon 80D and the Canon Vixia HF R800 (or Canon XA11, the two cameras I'm considering buying) can be connected to the laptop via the Black Magic Ultrastudio Mini Recorder (two of them)? Can the video interface be connected to the laptop via USB or HDMI or only via Thunderbolt input?
    Sorry for this many questions :)
    Thanks!

      I saw now on your channel that I could use two cameras with two U-Taps HDMI (that connect to the laptop via USB) and OBS: ruclips.net/video/8UtXvJq-l5M/видео.html
      Still, if I go for the ATEM, I'd have to buy the U-Tap SDI?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 лет назад

      @@lexington125djikan Yes, you would need the SDI u-tap for the ATEM. The Multiview HDMI output is not a program output, but a special display that shows you all the inputs at once like this: (images.app.goo.gl/M9j6SAFmYGuA7wRo7) You could get an HDMI version of the u-tap for use with your camera, and then get an SDI to HDMI converter to use with the ATEM. This would only add $60 additional cost, it just adds the additional piece of equipment in-between. amzn.to/2ZKefM9

      Hello Viko! One thing I would change, if you are using the TVS HD switcher, it has SDI outputs, you should get the SDI version of the u-tap. amzn.to/2JxxpNQ So that camera does not have SDI outputs. The BNC connector is a composite video signal. So you'll need to use the HDMI output to connect to the switcher.

      A lot depends on your setup. What cameras are you using? What video interface? I have some setups on my webpage that link everything needed for that particular setup, you could take a look at that. Multi-camera: bit.ly/2IXOkJ4 and single camera: bit.ly/2EQ2HNf

      I don't know what the WiFi capability of the camera is. Can you enter an rtmp server address and authentication key for it to connect to? If you have two cameras I'd recommend you get a switcher (like in the video) and run an SDI cable to each camera. Then stream using a computer and an AJA u-tap.

    Does this switcher allow for video delay?
    Basically, I have two cameras connected to my Mac using Blackmagic Mini Recorders. One is next to my Mac and the other is 100 ft away using an HDMI extender. I have noticed that the one using the HDMI extender comes in delayed compared to the one next to my Mac. I fixed this by delaying one video feed using my streaming software (OBS).
    If I get the switcher, is it possible to delay the video feeds? If not are there other ways to avoid this problem?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 лет назад

      The delay you are experiencing is from the HDMI extender, it's adding some processing time no doubt. A better way to do this (if you get a switcher) would be to convert your HDMI signal at the camera to SDI (using the pretty cheap BMD Micro Converter HDMI to SDI) Then run SDI cable the distance to your switcher.

      Did you by chance change the video standard of your switcher? (e.g. what resolution and frame rate it's operating at)

      You can record the feed as well. OBS can stream, or record, or both at the same time.

    I would like to stream worship service to Facebook. I will use a video switcher with out hdmi and a laptop. I will use also a video capture device to connect the switcher to the laptop. I have two capture devices in my mind: AJA U-TAP HMDI or Elgato Camlink 4K. According to your experience, what would you suggest me to buy between these two cards?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  4 года назад

      U-tap is definitely better - but to be honest at the moment with COVID, most of these are hard to find, so get what you can find. The Elgato will work fine on PC, it does have issues on Mac.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 лет назад

      Are you starting from scratch? Do you have a computer you can use already?
      $600 3x VIXIA R800 (amzn.to/2FBaCQs)
      $600 3x Tripods? (amzn.to/2CIYx8z)
      $1000 Video switcher (amzn.to/2EUeeQr)
      $100 Monitor for Switcher multi-view (amzn.to/2orRRY9)
      $335 AJA U-tap Video Interface (amzn.to/2F8nX4U)
      $590 PC for streaming (amzn.to/2CJnwZs)
      $180 3x HDMI to SDI converters if you want cameras further then 15ft from switcher (amzn.to/2GKkQ0a)
      ~$200 cables: select SDI lengths needed here (amzn.to/2EQCfYB)
      =$3605 and you are well on your way. Might need a few odds and ends for your environment, but that is the core of a 3 camera system to begin streaming.

    I am using a SDI to HDMI converter and then again HDMI recorder to take signal from ATEM to my PC. However, the converter is not BMD, but it is compatible for 1080p 60fps and still I am getting no signal when I tried to get Program output via SDI to HDMI converter. Do you know what might be the actual problem here?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 лет назад

      Aditya Kuche Can you tell me what specific models you are using? My first guess is thatsomething isn't able to operate at 1080p60.

    • @AdityaKuche
      @AdityaKuche 6 лет назад

      Hi again!! The problem was because of cheap SDI to HDMI converter. Just today I have received original Blackmagic-design and it is working absolutely fine. But I am facing another issue. Facebook live video is terribly lagging at 720p.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 лет назад

      Are you using OBS to stream? What is the upload speed of your connection? What is your bit rate set to?

    • @AdityaKuche
      @AdityaKuche 6 лет назад

      Yes I am using OBS to stream. Upload speed is roughly 22 mb/s and my video bit-rate is set to 2500.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 лет назад

      If you have 22mbps upload that is great. (Your sure that's not your download?) As long as OBS isn't reporting dropped frames when you are streaming, then the lag is happening on the viewer end. You can help the viewer by sending a lower bit rate stream, try 2000 for your setting in OBS and see if that helps.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 лет назад

      No, the USB on the ATEM switchers is just used to configure the IP address of the switcher. You'll need some sort of video interface to bring video in to the computer.
