- Visit Morris Island, South Carolina, scene of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry’s dramatic assault on Fort Wagner, with Medal of Honor recipient Melvin Morris.
This video was created as part the Brothers In Valor project, in which the American Battlefield Trust brought modern recipients of the Medal of Honor to Civil War battlefields so they could walk in the footsteps of earlier recipients who fought in circumstances parallel to their own. These stories, and incredible first-hand accounts more modern military service, were captured in breathtaking video footage and in the pages of a special edition of the Trust's Hallowed Ground membership magazine. The Trust is deeply grateful for the invaluable assistance provided by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society during this project.

Inspiration to everyone. I ended up serving myself because of the movie glory. I was in 3rd grade and sat on the steps and snuck and watched it when I was supposed to be in bed when I was a kid. After that I wanted to know everything and anything about Robert Shaw and the 54th. When I turned 18 I signed up. Did 3 tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. Thank you for your sacrifice you are appreciated every day by the many of us.
I watched Glory when I was 10 years old. It changed my life. For any of you who have not I highly recommend it.
Same I was about that age maybe a little older. One of my favorite movies for sure.
That's my favorite movie. It's is important to know your history, where you came from and where you are going. Thanks for your service Mr. Morris.
I absolutely love it..... amazing
I watched it
It is an awesome one for sure. I wish they wood make one about Fort Pillow

An honor to hear his story. I’m glad a wrong was righted and he was finally awarded the Medal of Honor.
And he thought he didn't do enough... What an inspiration to us all.
God bless you Mr Morris.
I've only known Melvin for about a year now. I was introduced to him by another Medal of Honor Recipient that I was honored to be invited to accompany, to the MLB All-Star game in Wash. DC. Ironically, being from greater New Bedford, MA, I'm VERY familiar with the Wm F. Carney story as New Bedford is where Wm F. Carney now rests. I will be spending some time with Melvin this week when he comes to Pensacola, FL to speak in favor of naming the new Pensacola Bay Bridge in honor of General Daniel "Chappie" James, USAF Ret. , the first American of African descent, to achieve the military rand of FOUR STAR GENERAL. It will be an experience for us both, as we were in the same places at the same time, in 1969. I as a Marine helicopter crew chief , and he with 5th Group, CCN. AND....the Wm F. Carney story will continue through the New Bedford, MA connections !
I wish I could meet him in person. Salute!
A great man. Thanks for doing this video.

Thank you Mr. Morris for your courage and honor. You are an insperation.
This was so inspirational. It was my honor to learn about both Mr. Morris and and Mr. Carney. Amazing American Men!
I love how most CMH winners are humble enough to know that their actions are not much that different than the actions of many others that weren’t given the award. That alone just about justifies them winning it.
Those that receive the Medal of Honor consider themselves RECIPIENTS of the award. They don't consider themselves "winners". I'm not being critical, just respectful.
Thank you Mr Morris and Mr Carney. The story filled my heart with the feeling that only great deeds can inspire. God love and bless you... WOW

My God Thisis so awesome. I,m a WAP.. but I’m a student military history, with two combat tours.. I grew up poor in the south with my next door neighbors being a black family, with three sons who were my close friends. This makes me wanna cry..
Greetings from Ireland. What an American.

Thank you Sergeant.
My respect to you Melvin 🇺🇸
I’ve been researching John W. Moore, the first Black from British North America (Canada) to enlist in the 54th Massachusetts. In 1863 Moore was working as a gunsmith in my hometown of Dundas, Ontario. He served an an armourer in Company D of the 54th. Moore survived Ft. Wagner but was wounded at the Battle of Olustee, Fla. In the 1881 census he can be found working as a gunsmith near Windsor, Ontario.
That is great.I think 60,000 Canadians served in the United States union army.
God bless the heroes of the 54th regiment proud to live where they were from. ❤❤ I would love to visit Fort Wagner and pay my respects to Shaw and his men. I love this story. I didn't know Carney was awarded the medal of Honor.

Gets shot 3 times and returns to a country just to get blasted by a fire hose and made to drink from separate water fountains
This is a classic
Good lord, that is such a moving testimony of love of country. Yes, it's disturbing to know how white americans for so long denied the contributions of black americans to our country's rich history and culture...even disdained them for their love of country, and for so long tried to practically erase them from american history and society in general. But it's also a testament to the greatness of america and its peoples that we could also recognize our wrongs and aspire to transcend them...as opposed to pretending we can some how "correct" those wrongs, as certain elements of society today try to advocate by insisting on remedies that hurt not only the guiltless among us, but also the very people the promoted remedies are targeted to benefit.
It is also sad and sickening to see many black american celebrities and their followers promote the idea that blacks have no reason to feel any organic attachment to and love of country and all it has achieved. Not only is this "woke" view sad, but the irony is crushing...given how in the past (and even among some today) whites once upon a time vigorously pushed that idea. Because these are the so-called "black voices" pushed in the msm - through mouthpieces like Lebron James and Soros organizations like BLM - many people have the sense that this is representative of the sentiments of most black americans. It is not. It's a false and mischievous image promoted in the "woke" media. Most black americans (at least the so-called "legacy" black americans) feel exactly like the wonderful man in this video...Mr. Melvin Morris.
People forget, or never knew, that the Memorial Day holiday we celebrate at the end of May was begun and inaugurated by blacks to commemorate all those who lost their lives in the civil war that resulted in their freedom. Believe me...and not Lebron James or BLM or the msm...black americans are and always have been in my long lifetime as patriotic as anyone who can claim an ancestry in this land. And if those who try to argue differently thought about for a minute, would simply take the time to count their own blessings, they would see and have to admit that this love of country by black americans is with very good reason. We should all be grateful it was our good random fortune to be born here.
