The latest Audi Q5 SUV certainly favours evolution over revolution, but it’s an exceptionally talented car, rivalling the likes of the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, Jaguar F-Pace and Land Rover Discovery Sport. It comes with economical and powerful engines and provides a comfortable and spacious interior. It’s just a shame it’s not more engaging to drive.

Carbuyer Why should I?!
I apologise but there is quite a bit of visual difference between the two models. Especially from the front and side.

Relax, its fine
I don't even like Audis but that is simply untrue. This car is rather different from the previous model and same can be said for Q7.
Fortunately the old and the new stopped right next to each other at the traffic light and only then did I realize the other one was the new Q5.
I'm sure you can buy a protective case for the iPhone from Audi which comes with a small adapter that plugs into the mains/charger/heaphone socket of the phone. This allows your phone to wireless charge on the centre consul between the seats. On leaving the car, just unplug the small adapter and store it below the charging shelf between the seats till it is needed again.
Test drove this today. It goes well, great suspension, nice car overall.
What's up with the recording audio (inside the car, the back)? Sounds bad... :(
Watching this review in my new A4. I like Audi design, not to much of everything and elegant in the end.
I really enjoy reading those comments. Every comment is about: "Audis are lazy, boring desing, dated, ugly" hahahahah. It is the best selling car in its class and will continue being that because people who have money and buy cars this class doesnt love experimenting. Interior is massive improvemet, exterior is also great for me. S-tronic + adaptive dampers or air suspension + virtual cockpit = the best car in the class=the best selling car in the class= audi q5. This is only real comment on this video at the moment.
Am I the only one that feels weird when watching the back, when hatch is open, and there are NO taillights?
The virtual cockpit may be advertised as a £250 option , but it has to be included with a technology package costing £1100. Very expensive option considering you have a screen on the dash showing the same map
Probably one of the only options worth it however

It`s not fine really, there are crackles and distortion and dips in sound level. If you are listening on headphones you should clearly hear them.

Not only the brits people around the globe love premium suv.
The XC60 just looks much more expensive and unique than the Q5, the new Q5 design is horrible its just so boring and in my country tech options are really expensive like the virtual cockpit which without it the interior of the Q5 looks dated, the interior of the XC60 is hands down best in class and at least i will not have to pay extra for the tech options like the germans

q5 looks way better than the q7. but audi got a very high self esteem in pricing, similar to range rover. i think more ppl will go for the new volvo xc60, mercedes glc and finally the new x3 at the end of the year. but the 2.0 tdi well equipped costs 85.000€ in austria which is only 8.000 € less than a volvo t8 hybrid with 408hp and a class above Oo

What is with the Germans and their love of these freestanding display screens? They look like someone decided to glue a tablet on their dashboard. Wow, that's so impressive, I mean, why bother trying to have an integrated look in a premium vehicle when you could make it look like someone who couldn't afford to buy the upgraded system decided to put it on the dashboard themselves?!
Maestro_T in my opinion Screens integrated in the dash look seriously outdated , especially in german last gen cars ! Pure and clean dashes look very appealing to me
How does it look "clean and pure" when the lines of the dash are interrupted by a hideous tablet? If you got rid of the tablet, then I would agree. Look at 1:41. What I see is a dashboard that has all kinds of different lines and design and on top of it they decide to throw a rectangular tablet which doesn't fit in at all. As I said, it looks like some aftermarket crap where they couldn't find a decent place to put it, so they just put it there.
I get what you mean , but it definetly is personal preference. Problem is there are millions of arguments for both standpoints...

I fully agree. I dislike this trend of looking like an after market product has been clipped on to the dash as an afterthought. I much prefer the integrated look. Surely Audi, with their cockpit dashboard, could almost do away with an infotainment screen all together?

How much does german car manufacturers pay for those reviews ? I sat in one of those q5 and the material quality is definitely not better than in other cars and definitely not better than xc60

Vitárius László Family suv. First suv is supposed to have a diesel cuz diesel got a lotta torque, better consumption cuz suv gotta heavier chassi. Diesel cant beat gas at high speed but a suv can't reach highest speeds like a hatch, sedan

The Q7 only competes with the GLS, Audi does not have a SUV to compete against the GLE or X5/X6...

The new XC60 looks way more classy and it is definitely my choice. I don't get it either why people prefer this Q5. It looks already outdated.

I also agree that these x3, q5 and glc are pointless cars having in mind that their 180-90hp 2 liter diesels are almost equally priced with the same engines in 5series, a6 and e class. In this class the VW Tiguan Highline is the best choice for me because it's cheaper than the rivals and with the Highline you have plenty of stuff that would cost you thousands of euro with BMW, Audi and Merc. Sure these crossovers are maybe the best cars for traffic and city driving because of the higher driving position but still smaller than their larger brothers so you want be scared all the time would I scratch the car and so on. If they were priced a little bit cheaper then I would start to love them 5-10% will be great. Don't need to forget that the bigger engines on these are great like 30d, 35d, m40i, sq5, glc 350d, glc 43 but again they are expensive and are 3th or 4th not 1st and only car to buy.
Only Audi's I will ever like is the first gen TT RS, '07 RS4 & R8. Rest is blah
Always the same. You state there's plenty of room in the back. You're 5ft 10 and the front seat is in your driving position. Your driving position is so far forward. You sit right on the steering wheel. In my opinion, not representative of how the majority of us would position the front seat and so legroom in the back would be far less than you state. Same as all your reviews!

Why can't Audi hire some stylists? At least with this Q5 hopefully the steering wheel isn't offset. It'll sell because people buy a badge. Everyone else will be queuing outside their Volvo dealer for the new XC60

Another boring Audi and I stopped watching when I saw yet another hideous 'plonked on the dashboard' display...just not good enough Audi. You create a great interior and totally ruin it with a UI display simply rested on top of the dash!
What is with the Germans doing that these days? You will find the same in Mercedes and BMW. It looks so cheesy and cheap, like you decided to glue a tablet on the dashboard. Wow, genius design!
george mcray I'm glad I'm not the only one! I could rant on about this for hours. Makes a nice interior look so cheap, looks like an after thought.This and fake exhaust pipes are two things that I really hate about modern car design
george mcray it clearly can't be that much of an issue for the masses because people keep buying these cars with that "plonked on the dashboard" UI. I personally like them because it keep the screen in your Field of vision without the additional dash hump that makes the dash feel claustrophobic and confining.
+craig doss Maybe they buy it because they have no alternative, in the same way that I'll probably be forced to buy a crossover/SUV at some point since there are practically no station wagons left on the market. It's one thing to complain about the field of vision being restricted, but look at 1:41. There is no effort at all to match it up with the lines of the dashboard. +K_Q_ J_H what are you, a Volvo salesman or smthng?? Volvo has had a renaissance under Geely, but you cant deny the prowess of BMW's engineering (and German engineering in general). That's why the new 5 Series has regained the crown in mid size exec class (beating the Merc E Class and Volvo S90). Admittedly not all BMWs are great....but the new X3 will, as always, be based on the 3 series; and as far as chassis competence and versatility goes, the 3 series chassis is, and has been for years the best in class ...wont be different for the next generation model
Do you really need an X3 when the brilliantly new X1 has moved up on the competition?
When you drive an S class over the E.. many people know it. But when you drive the new X1 over the 3, its much more harder to tell really.

Boring, unreliable and overpriced! Rather spare some cash and buy a Mazda CX-5 which is far more exciting will definitely be more reliable and is not overpriced!
