I love SC2, as that's the RTS I played the most, by far, but I'm really happy with the way FrostGiant addressed specific pain points of that game. The creep camps will take some getting used to (for me as a player, but also for them, as designers), but everything else sounds pretty good already. I hope the addition of Tier 3 units does not take away from the cool things you can already do with the flexibility of Tiers 1 and 2.

Love the video and the thoughts you shared! As someone who's played sc2 for years and didn't initially give AOE4 a go because it was a full priced game that was missing many basic features, its really upsetting to hear that after 3 years nothing seems to have changed. Hopefully with Stormgate being free to player, it will encourage many people to give it a go regardless of what states its in during early access and it will only grow from there as it receives more updates

There are so many red flags with this game and this studio. First of all, it's been in development for more than a year and a half. It's closer to 3 years. But regardless, if its current state is in alpha then its even bigger trouble because the Early Access release is a couple months away and they've recently backtracked about being fully funded to full release (as is stated on their Kickstarter page) and are now saying they're only funded to Early Access.
Additionally, Cara LaForge, head of business operations at FGS said:
"We are out fundraising right now. It's not a great climate to be looking for money...I think at some point we are going to go live with the game into Early Access and the game is going to be where the game is at that moment. Ya know, cause we're gonna need to start to monetize the game in order to continue to build."
So they somehow will have managed to burn through the roughly $37M they raised by Early Access this summer and will need to start monetizing an unfinished/unpolished game with microtransactions, And considering their burn rate, they're going to have to sell a lot of microtransactions...likely in the range of $1M per month, just to keep the lights on.
More red flags: in addition to their Kickstarter, they opened an Indiegogo campaign and even a crowd equity campaign where they're offering shares in their studio in exchange for larger investments (averaging about $2,000). To me, this just screams desperation.
You claim that the benefit to playing this game is that it will be supported. Well what happens when they burn through their Indiegogo and crowd equity funds and MTX are not enough to keep them afloat? Yep, no more support for the game.

The game made by ex-Blizzard devs & employees, so in a way you're on another Blizzard game. MR Blizzard sucks, which I agree with that comment. I dont believe the hype from ex-blizzards employees, but we'll see.

They also promoted the game toward sc2 audience and using sc2 players as thei test players as well. Basically the guys want to use their connection to sc2 scence and implying how it would be similar to sc2 but more fun.

Yeah, a studio promising to be the successor to sc2 then releasing a cheap fortnite looking knockoff while lying to their supporters about their funding situation will tend to do that.

Well I didnt say I dont like aoe4. Actually, I love aoe4. And I also love reacting to my opponents build. But the reactions are too long and boring in aoe4. If my opponent is playing a perfect defensive game it forces me to boom and take map control and play a longer more boring game that I have no interest in playing. In stormgate if I have to boom against a 2 base turtle, then I can win the game in 10 minutes still.

Hey man all I had was 35 million dollars to mod unreal engine into a game but I ran out, can I have some more? I know I lied about the money being used for a full release and said its early access now but I really need about another 50 million dollars for my team of fat losers who quit blizzard before they got fired to mod unreal engine poorly more. Do you have any idea how much programming netcode, calling it snowstorm and pretending its an engine and lying that its anything but peer to peer enablement costs? Would you like to pay 1000 dollars to name a unit that isn't being made?

Yup. The only reason anyone even knows about this game is because it has former SC2 devs working on it. If it wasnt for that, nobody would even look twice at this game. Absolute trash of a game.
