    31 layers might not sound very impressive when compared to 100+ of the Pro but that's still way more layers than what you get with traditional art while also being able to correct mistakes.

    I'm really getting called out that the only reason why I can't decide between iPad 9th gen and iPad Air is because the iPad air looks so much better. 😅 This iPad 9th gen would have been perfect if iPad just reduced the size of the bezels

      I feel the same way but I'm seeing lots of tech reviews saying that the bezels are actually a benefit, in that you have non active screen space for your fingers to rest when holding the ipad, instead of accidentally pausing video, etc.

      Just ordered my wife a 10.2” 9th gen… she’s had a few models (original iPad & a few minis etc from work). The iPad Pro is an awesome tablet, and we’d both like to use it (I just got the new 16” MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip which is unreal!!) but the iPad Pro gets so pricey it’s almost a laptop, the you add on the Smart Keyboard, pencil, USB adapter for external hard drive etc & it gets very pricey… going with the 10.2” is still a great iPad for her (a casual user) and allows to add on the keyboard, pencil & dongles/adapters without going over $1k or more. I think it’s a good machine for most users.

  • @jngarrettart
    @jngarrettart 2 года назад +179

    Yep! iPads can definitely last a long time. I think one of my family members got about seven or eight years of actual use out of the iPad 2 (from 2011), and while it’s not really getting used more and the software is definitely old, the thing still powers on just fine, and could probably still work as a photo viewer or an e-reader. Mind, this is ten years after it released!. Same family member is currently using a 12.9 2015 Pro, and that is still happily working away and getting updates.
    And I agree with your daughter. I also use an iPad 6 all the time at work for teaching (iPad Pro 11 inch at home for my own art). The 6 is maybe beginning to slow down a little, but still nothing that makes it feel frustrating or hard to use, and I’d guess I’m still a good couple years or so from needing to upgrade. I love the additional layers for art projects on my Pro and the larger storage, but the base model iPads really are nothing to sneeze at, and the 6 has been and continues to be a great little work device.

      Heh, I'm also still using the 2015 12.9 iPad Pro. I'm thinking of finally getting an upgrade but I'm still undecided which iPad I'm going to get... I'm thinking of getting the 11" Pro. Then again, I might just wait until next year to upgrade as my 2015 iPad is still fine -- my phone is in dire need of an upgrade (still using a Samsung S8 lol... 5 years) so I think I ought to get an iPhone 13 Pro first this year.

    One thing I like about the base iPad vs the Pro is that battery life in Procreate is much better. I think it has to do to the 60hz display vs 120hz on the pro. I think Procreate has the Pro running at 120hz constantly and it kills battery life.

      I am an sketch artist and have drawn few coloured digital arts. And in sketching, I love our traditional pencil and paper. But when it comes to coloured drawing, digital art has much more features and more diverse compared to normal drawing. So, is it really good for that? I mean, a sketch would take much less layers but a drawing would take a lot of layers? And about I pad air or mini. Is it more worth it than this one? Because I can straight up say, I am student and I honestly can't buy I pad pro.

    Just got this model iPad and love using procreate on it for design school. The rear facing camera is like taking a photo with a potato. It is so granulated but again most people don’t use iPads to take photos but given how useful of a device is for presentation making, I would want a better rear camera to take better photos of design objects or textiles straight on there without bothering with airdrop. my 10.5 inch ipad pro lasted about 3-4 years before the battery stopped charging unless it was switched off (more of a pain than it sounds because sometimes it doesn't work but you cant tell till you turn it back on). and the button at the top stopped working after around 2 years so i had to use the accessibility features to turn it off etc. but everything else works perfectly so i could probably have replaced the battery. seems too much of a hassle to back up though so i'm going to buy the 2021 ipad to replace it for a year or two. thanks for the review.

Why don’t you talk about the benefits of a wide color gamut screen? The regular iPad is the only one that can’t access the P3 color space after all…
