Those stairways are narrow and make sudden and sharp turns because these made it easier to defend the palace if it came under attack. The enemy had to climb the stairs in single file with not much room for to maneuver and were easier to pick off one at a time.

Hey Natalie, if you are still in Udaipur then there is a Hostel named Hostel Mantra near to your hostel which is even closer to lake. You can visit that hostels' cafe in evening to view the sunset.It's even better. Also don't forget to go to Bahubali hills during sunrise, the hostels staff organises a tour in morning for that. Udaipur is love.

In my small town, we can get an unlimited thali for 90 rupees. It has wheat chapatis, millet parathas, three kinds of vegetables curries (one of them a bean curry) dal, several kinds of pickles, kadhi (a curry made of chickpea flour and yogurt), Rice, khichadi, papadam, and butter milk. Servers are going around with all these items and if you need to replenish anything, just ask them.
