- I finally made it to Hampi - a small town in Karnataka known for it's many ruins and being an UNESCO World Heritage Site. I'd heard so many great things about Hampi that I HAD to visit despite it being a little more difficult to reach. I took a long overnight bus from Goa to Hampi before spending a relaxing few days in this gorgeous town.
I started the day by getting breakfast at Old Chill Out Ganesh Restaurant which was so good! They even had amazing iced americanos (my favorite coffee)! From there I started exploring some of the 1,600+ temples in Hampi, India! The first one I headed to was the most famous one: Virupaksha Temple. It's directly in the center of Hampi and I saw it all lit up when arriving off my night bus. I had to leave my shoes at the door before entering, but it was gorgeous! It was also the first temple where I personally saw an elephant inside the temple. I then walked into the huge Hemakuta Hill Temple complex. While exploring Hemakuta Temple, I stumbled upon the Kadalekalu Ganesha Temple. I didn't hear about this one before finding it, but it was so cool!! I loved all the intricate carvings on the columns as well as the giant Ganesha monolith statue! Next to the first big Ganesha, I found another: Saasivekaalu Ganesha. While it wasn't as impressive as the one before, it was still really cool to see! After checking that out, I crossed the street to the old Krishna Bazaar ruins. Across the street again was the Krishna Temple - another gorgeous, intricately decorated temple! It was really hot so I decided to sit down in the temple grounds for a little and relax before continuing. 5 minutes from there I went to the Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple. It was also amazing and really unique! I loved how there were so many temples just in walking distance from my guesthouse in the middle of Hampi!! From there I walked 15 minutes back to the center of Hampi to see the Hampi Bazaar. The Hampi Bazaar actually has two parts: the old street full of ruins from one of the biggest bazaars of its time as well as the area that is the current 'shopping street' in Hampi. I walked down the 750 meters of the Hampi Bazaar before turning down the side street to the river. A couple minutes down the path and I arrived at the Kampa Bhupa Marga riverside pathway. It's a gorgeous walk along the river in Hampi full of more temples, little cave pathways, river boats, and cute kids! After walking along the river for a little, I checked out the Pushkarni Temple which used to be full of water. I think it still is during rainy season? But when I visited there was no water, although it was still gorgeous. I bought some overpriced clothes (even after over 2 months in India and years in Thailand I can't bargain to save my life 😭). After a little break at home (to edit) I walked along the old Hampi Bazaar to the giant monolithic Nandi bull statue before starting the hike up Matanga Hill for sunset. There are multiple ways to climb up Matanga Hill, but I chose the path next to the bull statue. The views were gorgeous!!! Although the stairs were scary and the monkeys even scarier. It was a great ending to my first day in Hampi, Karnataka, India!!!

Capital of vijaynagar empire, last greatest hindu emperor Krishna dev raya....... LOVE AND RESPECT FROM PUNJAB
Not last. Chattrapati shivaji maharaj vis a vis maratha was last..
The fact that you know this being from Punjab is really great brother
Aww thanks for watching 🥰
@@AbhinavPaulPOLY2563how you know he is punjabi 😅😅
Correction: It's Krishna DEVA(not Dev) Raya
Karnataka's pride runs deep. We built the richest empire in the entire world, only to lose it to invaders who ravaged and destroyed it. This history holds important lessons for us about resilience, strength, and the need to preserve what is ours for future generations.....
I wish it wasn’t destroyed! But the lessons on preserving buildings is something we should all learn! 😍
I haven't seen the whole video, forgive my ignorance but can you tell me the name of that temple ?
@@NataliesPassportthe Muslim battalion within vijayanagara empire switched sides in the battle midst and changed the course of the winning war. It was lost. Lesson is never trust the turks(Muslims). Never say atithi devo bhava. Guest is not God but enemy in disguise.
As a student of engineering and a devout Hindu, I bow my head to the engineers, architects, workers and artisans who came before me and created these huge mega structures as a show of devotion to our Bhagvan
It really is an amazing place! 😍 wish I could’ve seen it back then!!
Thank you for visiting this place mam. I have lived my entire life in India but got the chance to visit hampi only last October. Me and a friend of mine had the plan to stay in hampi for 2 days but once we got there the place just cast a spell on us and we ended up spending an entire week.
Last year it was less crowded and the weather was much cooler. We took many sunrise walks and would walk upto any mound or hill and just sit there absorving the absolutely magnificent view of the ruins.
Its a magical place and everyone should visit and atleast spend 3-4 days to really observe the place.
That’s amazing! The best kind of traveling is when you don’t have plans and just go with what you’re feeling 😍😍
I want to visit Hampi and pay my respect to those heroes. EVERY BODY SHOULD LISTEN THE PODCAST OF Sri Sandeep Balakrishna and Sri Subramanya Swami about THIS great empire. Mysore Dasara originally started from Hampi.
This is the ruins of the Imperial Capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, that is the 'City of Victory', Vijayanagara from the 1370s to 1565. The City was the largest city in the world (many recent studies are now saying larger than Beijing). The core urban area was 45km2 but the Metropolitan Area was 180km2 with a population of around 1 million people. The Imperial Palace was massive comples of about 0.5km2 in size. The City had 7 rings of fortifications with the innermost fortification marking the Royal Enclosure.
The City had several districts. Each district had a main temple at the centre, with a water reservoir, and a bazaar. For example, Hampi Suburb had Virupaksha Temple, Vitthalapura had Vijaya Vitthala Temple, Krishnapura had Balakrishna Temple, Kamalapura had Pattabhirama Temple. The Outer Suburbs included smaller walled townships like Malpanagudi, Santhanur, and Hosapete. Hosapete was one of the last suburbs built (by Emperor Krishnadevaraya in 1520s) where a new Imperial Palace was built along with the massive but incomplete Ananthashayanagudi Temple.
The City had very wide highways and roads. The Virupaksha Bazaar and Achyutyaraya roads were 30metres wide, Vitthala Bazaar Road was 40m wide, and the Krishna Bazaar road and the the highway linking the North-East of the City with Hosapete to the South-West were both 50m wide.
The Imperial Palace was described by foreign travellers from Europe to be larger than entire cities like Lisbon. The Palace had several royal apartments, an administrative complex, a noblemans complex, and a ceremonial complex as well several smaller temple complexes, warehouses, gardens and stables. There is an Olympic sized swimming pool where the members of the Royal family would sit in little boats and squirt waters and colours during Holi festival.
The city was described by travellers from Europe, Persia, the Middle East and North Africa to be the best provided city in the world. The Bazaars were packed with people and carriages, goods from all across Asia, Europe and East Africa. There were diamonds and other gems and jewellery being sold on the streets. (The Vijayanagara Empire had a complete monopoly on the World's diamond supply back then). The City had a very advanced water management system which in some part still survives today. Surrounding the city was a complex canal irrigation system as well as Aqueducts (like the surviving 14th century Bukka Raya Aqueduct), and large reservoirs like the massive surviving Kamalapura Lake. Most of the houses were single story buildings made of bricks and wood with tiled roofs or flat roofs. Within the city walls were many gardens and even some land for agriculture and orchards.
It sounds so amazing, I can’t even imagine 😍
@Natalie's Passport "Darshan" means getting a sight of the God or coming in proximity. The noise that you heard is of "Aarti" the act of showing reverence to gods with a divine flame and Agarbatti or Dhoop alongside ringing of temple bells. Love from Canada 🇨🇦
Ah thanks for the explanation! I saw the ganga aarti in Rishikesh, but I didn’t realize it also happened during the daytime! ❤️
Although ,i am not a fan of monarchy in general , Hampi was a part of Vijayanagara, the capital of the very renowned Vijayanagara Empire in the 14th-century.It became a center of economic and administrative activity of the Deccan region kingdom. Historians consider the empire to to one of the most well run empires in the world statecraft wise.
That’s amazing! Also how it existed so long ago 😍
20 Yrs back during my school days had visited the place.....Each time i visit, something new to be found....

Its nice to see that you ended up picking a lot of places that indians go to as well for traveling. All these placws are great for still beinf able to explore the rich culture of India without all the craziness.
Thank you 🥰🥰 I love traveling to places like this as opposed to just really popular tourist places!
It requires at least 2-3 weeks to explore entire Hampi, there are so many great sculptures and scientific inventions from the 14th - 17th century that will blow your mind, also i suggest you to visit Anjanadhri Temple ( it is very close ) and you should not miss that place.
I bet there’s so much cool stuff to see if the area 😍
@Natalie's Passport Hampi also houses the birthplace of Lord Hanuman (of the Ramayana era) and Chakrateertha (reached by a ferry) is the place Lord Vishnu (one of the divine Hindu trinity) received his Weapon Sudarshana chakra from Lord Shiva (another one of the divine Trinity)

Hampi is just beyond beautiful. Some of the places, like the Queens baths, lotus palace, elephant stables. It takes your breath away. The step well, canal systems. Carved plates/ thalis and katories , amazing. The monolith huge doors, which could only be opened by elephants. Secret underground chamber, so the king could have discussions and no one else would hear. The administration area is spectacular. You see carvings of elephants, horses and camels. That was a sign that trade used to take place with Persia and Arabia. There are two pillars near this area, which were used as lathes, to shape the pillars into perfect rounds. The technology behind all of this is so wonderful to see. The main temples, the chariot, and the musical pillars. if it was in a western country it would have been wonder of the world.

Lol so true!! I was expecting the heat a lot more than I expected the snow 😅

It is a magical place which takes us back into those ancient times. It was ruled by one of the powerful dynasties i.e The Vijayanagara Dynasty and the most popular ruler even though he ruled for a short period Sri Krishnadevaraya made an indelible mark in the history of India. We are in eternal debt to him as he took the art and architecture to its Zenith and left an unparalleled legacy of these artforms and magnificent architecture. The serene Tungabhadra river on the banks of which this Incredible kingdom once flourished is still the lifeline to the modern civilisation. There is an old saying which goes like this “Tunga paanam Ganga snaanam” which means ‘One should drink sweet water of Tungabhadra and one should take a dip in the holy Ganges’ (Atleast once in thier lifetime) I am glad you got to drink the sweet Tungabhadra water and now its time you take a dip in Holy Ganges :)
Maybe one day 😅 some friends got in in Rishikesh, but it was January and SO cold!! 😬
@@NataliesPassport Yea the Ganges water is pure and indeed super cold near the upper reaches of Himalayas. As we go further south the river water is well suited to take a dip. For instance in Varanasi it is comfortable enough to take a dip. I hope you have a nice time in our country and I also wish that your future trips are successful and bring you a lot of joy and happiness 🙏

My ancestors were military men manning forts in the Vijayanagara empire. They settled us in Coastal Karnataka. Am from the Kshatriya caste.
That’s so cool to know your family history like that 😍
@NataliesPassport if you didn't know as per mythological basis this empire was created from the boon of a goddess. One story says that this empire will come to life again for another 200 years but not sure when..
I’m living in Hampi , Hospet ❤
Ohh cool! I took the train from Hospet when I left 🥰
400 to 650 is a reasonable price so don't worry!!You got a good bargain!
Thanks for letting me know 🥰
5 Muslim Kingdom United, invaded to destroy and burnt Hampi for 6 months.
In 1565, at the Battle of Talikota, a coalition of Muslim sultanates entered into a war with the Vijayanagara Empire. They captured and behe@ded the king Aliya Rama Raya, followed by a massive destruction of the infrastructure fabric of Hampi and the metropolitan Vijayanagara.
😱 oh wow I didn’t know about any of that! Wish we could’ve seen it how it was before they destroyed it!
Hampi was the second most populous and richest city in the 15th century, comparable to the Roman Empire. Muslim invaders destroyed the entire city, burning it for months and looting all the wealth.
Amazing you just transported me back to Hambi , I was there last November! I walked to all the places you went except that Laxmi Narashima temple . Hope you visited the chariot temple on the next day !!!
Yessss I was there for multiple days! But just vlogged the one day 😅
Carry umbrella/ cap.. also go morning or after 3
Sometimes I wear a cap, but I never really use a sun umbrella (and rarely for rain either when I’m traveling 🙈😅)
Great artitecture, lovely buildings so serene and beautiful area. You present well and showcase great features when you are about on your adventures. Natalie you are always 13:04 smiling and be happy which is good. Keep on doing and keep on bringing us great content where ever you may be on your asventures. I love animals but i got bit by a monkey i am so aware of them i freeze on the spot. The local children so friendly. Its amazing how India is so diverse in culture and daily life always seem to amaze. Them pesky monkey's. Beautiful sunset. Great vlog Natalie 🩷🥰🩷🌹🌹

P.S. The monkeys look scary! Stick, as a deterrant, seems like a good idea.
Monkeys are sooo scary!! I was happy when I sat with some nice guys who kept them away 😅
You should have had the tender coconut water - that would have kept you well hydrated and energized in the heat as its full of electrolytes. At 14.00, just when you turn to go towards the river there was a stall selling tender coconut.
That would’ve been good 😍 hopefully coconuts don’t attract monkeys 🙈🤣
Hope you have seen the Chariot and musical note temple where you strike the pillar you get different musical note
So cool! 😍😍
@@NataliesPassport Congatulations for visiting the land of Hanuman, Vali and Sugreev, Sugreev has travelled around the world and his directions and maps are detailed in Ramayana (Second largest poem and most ancient after Vedas, The directions of the world start from around this region. These temples are based on Another temple 1000 pillar temple in Telangana (Hanumakonda, Warangal town close to Hyderabad city). The barbaric invaders destroyed the kingdom and temples there & the army chief of that town created Hampi Town owing to the ancient significance, which was destoyed by the usual suspects of the world.
