As a fuller rectangle now after menopause, with more of a belly, I find that belts are not too flattering. I also don’t do well with low rise jeans as I have a really long rise. I do find that breaking things up colors-wise between top and bottom helps, just to break up the big rectangular space my body occupies. I also find that things that are more fitted in the torso help create the illusion of the waist that has suddenly gone missing! 😅
Thank you for these tips! Looks like I've been dressing myself OK these years, as a rectangle. I usually get skirts or dresses which are A-line or more flare at the bottom. This is because I have both small hips & bum - I don't look good in pencit cut skirts. For slacks (trousers), I have both boot cut & slightly fitted at the bottom. Now I know why I look better in the flarred ones. Cheers!
Is there a video about how to style a very short torso? I love mom jeans but can't wear them because the waist of most of them is extremely high so they end past my rib line :))
@@sarahryanthestylecoach thank dear I just wanted to see more of jeans cause I have a problem with jeans I have an hour glass shape with a very small waist so most of my jeans they leave space in the waist I'm tired of adjusting them🙈. Thank you very much for the reply
@@evelynnyangu Ah ok. Yes this is typical for both pear shapes and hourglass. You might find my video on dressing for the hourglass shape more useful. :)
So you have given ne the answer why as a rectangle i do not like the minimalist straight Looks but the great secret is why is the Illusion of hourglass the holy grail
Great question Sonja. The aim of the hourglass figure is an outdated ideology yet it is the shape that most people (speaking from my own clients wants) desire. When I work with a client I never assume that the hourglass is what they want. I try to understand what it is they want to achieve. Thanks for watching and posing such an interesting question.
I just wear whatever I want because I hate low rise, flare and everything else people say I should wear. I rather look bad than have my ass crack come out everytime I move 😂. Oh well.
As a 6' tall, 140 lb rectangle, low rise pants definitely do not work. Most often, if I can find pants that fit my 35" inseam, the manufacturer has only lengthened the leg, leaving the waist to crotch measurement the same as for an average person (not proportionate to longer legs). This means that low rise pants will definitely result in lots of landscape when you bend over - never a good look.
You're right, not a good luck. Unfortunately the fashion industry don't cater well for anyone who is tall or short. Have you found your perfect jeans? I'd love to know where you got them.
Remember, being an hourglass is not the 'be all and end all' of body shapes! Make peace with your body just as it is, it's the only one you will ever have!
Got any questions about dressing your body shape??

Yes, and this is why a generic video cannot replace a bespoke consultation where I would take into consideration all of these things :)

Waist measurement under 8 inches of top and bottom 😊
