I had the chance to compare the 911 Turbo S and the 911 GTS at a track. To my surprise, the GTS perforrmed far better than the Turbo S. It felt lighter, more precise, and it handled leagues better than the 4WD Turbo S. I was expecting the much more powerful and more expensive 911 Turbo S to be my clearr favorite, but it was not the case. The only thing the 911 Turbo S has on the GTS is straight line speed. It felt about 5%-10% faster than the GTS in that regard, but not as much as I expected. The track we drove on did not have long straights, so the additional power of the turbo S wasn't as useful. I wished that I had the chance to drive a GT3 that day, but it wasn't in the cards.

The best thing about Porsche is that they've created a specific flavor of car for everyone. Me personally? I want the do-it-all super car that is the 911 turbo, but if you don't want that there's plenty of options such as this GTS.
It's because Georgia doesn't have extensive frost, ice and freezing cycles that the Northeast. Roads would otherwise last much longer and be in much better shape.
Matt, as the owner of a 991.2 GT3 6MT I cannot disagree with you more about the shifter. The shifter is absolutely ideally setup for the engine, and the instant engine response and light flywheel makes for fantastic shifts. With modern engine rev-hang so prevalent, it's a huge breath of fresh air. In 10-20 years, when PDK units start breaking with no spare part availability, the good old-fashioned manual transmission and tried-and-true technology will not only be easier to maintain but also cheaper to service. Not to mention that a properly driven manual transmission can last a lifetime. The PDK may feel good now but when they fail, and they do, they will be an absolute nightmare.
I strongly prefer manual transmissions too, but Porsche keep making parts for old vehicles long after they're discontinued. Given that you can order parts from the dealer for an old 911SC, it's unlikely that PDK parts will become unavailable, especially given that the transmission will probably still be in production in some form by 2040 (everyone knows that cars aren't going all-electric, despite what manufacturers are pledging for reasons relating to ESG') Also, there are plenty of 997.2's with PDK's. with over 200k miles with no issues.

Was thinking the same thing. The more you know about race cars you realise you don't want anything like it on a road car. You only want the 'impression' of it (sound, response, not the harshness) The two personalities cannot be mixed without compromise but Porsche is incredibly good at mixing the qualities and offering something for every taste. My only problem is, I can't afford any of them, not without sacrificing my retirement fund anyhow.
Agree the fat squishy M car wheels suck and dampen the already minimal road feedback. Go drive an 80s M car to see what a perfect steering wheel is like.
The 911 wheels got slightly fatter with the 991 (I put a 991.2 GT3 wheel on my 997.1 C2S and it feels sooo much better). Not as fat as the wheel on my M3, but I think the M wheels are slightly too fat.
Not sure why several reviews nowadays say the GT3 isn’t comfortable enough as a daily driver. There are very few roads that are a bit of a struggle, otherwise I’v no issues at all. Done about 13.500 km in 8 months in my Touring.
It's easy as a reviewer to forget why we buy these cars, or at least many of us. i love to see Matt's road rage-y tendencies. Obviously, that Outback was merging because there was a road sign saying his lane was about to end. Still, Matt acts oblivious as to why the Outback switched into his lane (did he not see the sign?), as if he wasnt hauling ass. As if it wasnt entirely possible for the Subie driver to have looked in his mirrors half a second before he started merging, while Matt was still around the bend, merged, and then saw a red Porsche on his ass 1.5 seconds later. And this isn't the first time I see Matt act entitled, as if he's not using these roads for recreation (or rather, spirited, recreational-type driving) and as if other people arent entitled to drive the speed limit and follow road signs. Anyway, I love Matt's content. It's just notable to see him be....human.
@iamspyvspy the right lane was ending for the slow driver. Maybe they moved over a little early but wasn’t expecting a red race car to be flying around the bend and be on their ass!
I really hate that the horsepower wars have taken normally aspirated engines from everyday sports cars. The Corvette is about it these days (but you can't get them with a manual trans anymore). Oh how I wish this car would have had a lower displacement, less-agressive version of the GT3s engine.
It's perfectly reliable just like everything else on a Porsche. Just service it regularly as the manufacturer recommends. People who tens of thousands of km's in Porsche's exclusively on race tracks without anything ever going wrong on them.

Blood Mountain, all my Georgia car people know this road like the back of their hand.
Gorgeous scenery and looks like a fun road! As a Californian, we have amazing driving roads and I drive the same roads as Matt drives on the regular, i love to explore and see awesome roads outside of where I live. Enjoy the drives!
These roads you're finding Matt!!! 👍
I'm convinced that the cupholder placement right behind the shifter is Porsche trying to get customers to pick the PDK. They know what they're doing. Great video!
Matt how come you still don’t have a new gen 911, given that you always talk so well about it.
another porsche vid, another time hearing "ineRTIA". I love it ! I'd love to get myself one of these GTS w the aerokit in gloss black
The shirt is FANTASTIC! Fashion is on point Mr F
TIL Georgia has mountains. What a road.
"If you can't get an allocation on a GT3." lol
I hope you drove the whole Blood Mountain Loop! So many good roads in that area.
I love this no bullshit kind of review of what seems to be, according to many reviewers in the know, the best road car in Porsche's lineup.
“stick is good”
-M.F. 2021
Lovely. The 991.1 GTS with stick was the beauty.
i love to see Matt's road rage-y tendencies.
It's all about Matt
It's a good thing he got past her. She'd be going 10 under the whole way just to spite him.
For me, the sweet spot 911 in the current range.
Also: that road!!!
what a great car, I bet that was a fun trip to see the whole experience thanks guys!
omg, that shirt is the jam!
I'd rather have the 718 GTS. Much cheaper and you still get a naturally aspirated 4.0 without being too racecar.
718 gts is half the price with more than enough power. Same ultimate Porsche driving feel
Nice to see some verdant USA b-roads...i feel like i've been on vacation watchin' this! All the best from blighty.
Finally a video not filmed at the boring canyons.
Fantastic that Porsche retains the center locking hubs on the GTS. It's a more comfortable daily driver, and still looks like a race car.
Loving that shirt! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is the Porsche I would want, not the color but definitely the car. And add a sick exhaust system with a 19 year old girlfriend. 18 is too young!
Yesss this one! But your shirt is LIT!
Passing that semi was a good gauge for me of how quick this car is. My car would not pass a semi that fast 😂😂
I really hate that the horsepower wars have taken normally aspirated engines from everyday sports cars. The Corvette is about it these days (but you can't get them with a manual trans anymore). Oh how I wish this car would have had a lower displacement, less-agressive version of the GT3s engine.
I think its more of a regulation and emissions type of issue not hp wars
really big fan of the change of scenery
How reliable and expensive to service or repair is the rear steer system?
That'd be my only concern with adding that option.
If you're buying a porsche to keep that long, I'm sure you can afford whatever it costs.
My exact thought. "I wonder if the rear steer is worth the added breakable and wearable parts." I think we're just old.
It's perfectly reliable just like everything else on a Porsche. Just service it regularly as the manufacturer recommends. People who tens of thousands of km's in Porsche's exclusively on race tracks without anything ever going wrong on them.
@@themadhatter444 I'm in my mid-twenties LOL. I've already seen enough unnecessarily complex and unreliable new tech in my life.
@@Ninjasimpmunk it would still be good to know as many cars don't have rear steer so there's not much to compare it to, Additionally the rear end of a 911 is already super tight and difficult to get to so I would imagine the hourly service cost is high.
Porsche needs to add adaptive cruise onto their manual cars over 15-20mph (like VW has on the Golf R)
Yes that would be good, plus a heads up display too - most likely on 992.2
As someone who has spent most of my time in German vehicles, It is German, you are lucky you even got a cup holder.
Also, it you are getting a cupholder, it would not be German if the cupholder was not in the way.
Story time.. I’m not rich my any means, make a decent living.. the GT350 is one hell of a bargain for some fun driving. It’s my personal “I’ve made it” car and will own it forever… but one of these would be one hellava car to own and wash after some spirited driving.
Lovely road and GTS.
the only problem with this 7th gear is when you downshift from 6 to 5, you sometimes go in to 7 if your not careful
Such a fine automobile
I must say, yes, $130k is a lot. Period. BUT, that $170k is about $120k of early 00s buying power and personally I think that’s where a lot of car guys heads stay. I don’t know/can’t explain why, but that is like the golden era of life I guess… idk, good old days tho for sure. But we are NOW in the golden era of sports cars. 700hp for under 100k with a warranty. Can’t beat that
I like "It's a very nice car but is very expensive". Haha
I have a feeling with an ECU tuning you can extract 50 more horsepower from this engine
Hmmmm way more then that I have 120 horsepower extra on mine with a tune from porsche oakville
Cup holders in my manual boss 302 mustang have the same issue with the shifter hitting the cup holder.
Would like to do a double blind drive test between a C2S and a GTS. Likely no detectable difference.
GTS maybe noisier.
those are crazy prices ......I do love manuals
Very crazy
Irony: I see an Off The Record ad at the end of this video, and I got a ticket on these roads last time I was up there. Turns out, Off The Record doesn't service that area. Back to the yellow pages to find a traffic lawyer, I suppose
I´ve been waiting for a review. This is the one for me. 2023 is the plan to order one. Well. Looking forward to say the least :-D
Great review, nice strap.
Now that is a 911 I like.
I love this car the sound. Maybe my new favorite Porsche.
I like the shirt brother!
I have a Carrera S on order and at first I was thinking maybe I should had gone with the GTS, but I'm not sure the GTS is the deal it used to be. Mine is spec'ed with Sport Package (Sport Chrono, PASM, sport exhaust), front lift, 20/21" wheels and some looks and comfort goodies, and it comes out to $133k. I think I'm only loosing out on additional 30HP...
Plus, a stage 1 tune brings the S to 530ish hp/tq, and seriously fast.
"You should get the rear steer in your 911"...umm, yeah, I'll get it...in Gran Turismo 7 maybe...*sad mouth boxer noises*
My top 911
the fit is crazy lol
good looking design, nice exhaust sound and high performance. perfact😎
