when main bearing web is showing gaps, are you able to skim the cases an then line bore? thanks for a great video.
No, I would not attempt to do that. If there is a gap, it is because the engine has over heated in its past and the metal is warped and likely weaker. Also, early cases have a problem with "heat memory" which will destroy your motor even if the machine work is done right when its cold. Not worth the risk to save a couple hundred dollars. Either find a good used case or start with a new one.
@@VintageVolks Thanks for the info. in South Africa the new casings are so expensive and scares, it will cost you an arm and a leg. With the exchange rate, to us 10 000 Gs.

You are very smart , I am doing very similar to a porsche 1983 911 right now its running on a 1998 audi ecu system but not very well , will try a stand alone.
Am I the only one that noticed there was light shining through the upper side of the rear main bearing when he was trying to show that there was no light shining through stating that the case is not warped? I hope they caught that the case is warped before they built it and shipped it off
Good night ! Very interesting the video about improving the lubrication of the other half of the block. We made this work here, resulting in a quieter and more durable engine. What improvements are made to the main bearings? I would love to see the solutions given there in the USA ..

Hello from Colombia, in your experience, an aluminum block or an AS 41 magnesium block is necessary for a stroker engine? Did you ever see that the block bench bearings are oversized in only 800 km of use?
I am not a fan of the aluminum super cases. I have one in my car and they do work but they have some downfalls. The machine work on the case I got was terrible and I spent more time fixing it than I would have spent prepping a good factory mag case. I know that is not true for all super cases, but it is a risk. Oversize bearings in a case that fresh means something went very wrong. I would be very careful with the case. Could have damage from a build failure of some sort.
how do you weld a magnesium case ? so it does not catch on fire ,,,i am a cert welder but i never welded one of these in trying to repair it ? thank you for nice info
You simply TIG weld it with magnesium filler rid. I've never had one catch fire welding it.
I'm rebuilding my 1600 and during disasebely one of the main case studs came out. It did not strip or anything like that but instead of the bolt loosening that stud did. How do I install it back in the case properly? Thanks
Tighten two nuts against each other on the stud and then tighten the stud via the outer nut or loosen it via the inner nut .
Here's another idea for a video, on how to check the oil pick up tube for oil leaks.
