Best advice I’ve ever gotten: it’s better to undertrain than to overtrain. The worst thing that will happen if you undertrain is you finish later (or DNF), neither of which is a big deal. If you overtrain, you can injure yourself and set yourself back by months or years, and that is a big deal.
To have running advice from top athletes and champions it is just brilliant . Wild Ginger Running channel is always motivating with a great content and keeping it real and living by example . Well done Claire .
Aw heck that made me well up. I was there that week you were filming doing the West Highland way. Watching it, remembering the great weather, how hard that day coming into the valley was and seeing all the banners and runners..it was amazing. Wow how different were the next 12 months with lockdowns. Excellent tips and thanks for reminding me what I have to look forward to when the world opens back up.
Hey I really like the interviews and content you have been uploading. My channel is a bit smaller and has a different twist but we both love ultra running!
Do you think some people are not born to run? I've been playing football for 25 years at least twice a week, hiking and im slim/athletic. I have been running for the last 6 months 4 times a week for about 6/7 hours a week and I still can run 10 min mile for more than 3 miles with dying?
I think some people enjoy it more than others, and some find it easier than others, but maybe you are running too much - try 3 times a week, do 2 x 20-30mins really steady, sooo slow that you are breathing through your nose only, then for the 3rd, do a 10min very slow warm up, then run 3 x 45 secs effort as fast as you can. If you want to do a 4th session do biking or walking or strength work following one of my HIIT workouts. See how that goes for 2 months! You're welcome! Claire
From an evolutionary perspective we are all born to run, 10s of 1000s of years with only a relatively tiny blip of sedentary comfort in the last few 100 years - genetically we are innately runners.
