CHUCK LOST HIS BEAUTIFUL WIFE LAURA TO CANCER LAST WEEK LEAVING BEHIND CHUCK AND THIER 2 AMAZING SONS. PLEASE KEEP THEM IN YOUR PRAYERS DURING THIS INCREDIBLE DIFFICULT TIME.
I did almost the exact same thing for years. I would get ready for work and just before I left, I would have my bow strung and ready in the shop. I would take that cold shot then leave for work. I left the arrow in the target all day so that I could also see it when I got home! Make that first shot count!
People have to understand, that when they’re shooting good at the range, it’s because they’ve been target practicing, and are already warmed up. But when you take that shot at that animal, your not. Your clothing is more bulky, your body is cold, and your muscles are stiff. And that deer is unpredictable. He’s not going to be standing at that exact range yardage like your target normally would be. It’s a totally different ball game. Great video, and good advice! Thanks for sharing. 👍😎👍
I never shoot at the same distance two times in a row. I like to move forward or backward, but of course you have to have your own space to do this. But, the first shot from wherever you’re standing is the most important, And you can soon figure out what your effective range and furthest away you can shoot at an animal by doing this. Good stuff as usual.
This is a great way to determine your actual effective range. Slowly increase the range day after day until you find the distance you can't be consistent. Add that stress to the practice!
I try to tell myself, the only shot of the day, is the first shot of the day. Amazing how one can make thousands of shots with lots of experience, but a moment's distraction can make the shot sequence totally fall apart. Gearing up is definitely a great way to put it all together to duplicate the hunt. I bought a mosquito mesh camo head net, not thinking much about it. I was out in the woods with my net on, and decided to take a couple practice draws and found that the stitching and wire around the nose piece was right where my anchor point landed. Another issue was a cold weather jacket with a stiff hood on it. When drawing the bow one of my eyes was looking directly into the inside of the hood. The same jacket had baggy sleeves and when canting the bow, the sleeve dropped directly into the bow string path. Items sticking out of chest pockets can also catch on the string. Great info as always. Thanks for sharing. Side note, if the deer target ducked the arrow, you were still in the game.
all very excellent points. and that shot i was trying to recreate was on a pig and they dont drop like deer do. so I would of been a wounded pig. On a deer your right it might of dropped right into it and I would not of know any better and thought I made a perfect shot on it.
fantastic system. Thats what Chuck does. He shoots a cold shot in the morning before work and has to live all day with the results and the penalties he puts on himself for a bad shot. then in the evening he does regular practice sessions.
Yup. Cold bore shot tells you exactly what you need to know from a hunting perspective. If your sights are off or you have inconsistent form the cold bore shot will expose it.
Yep, this is why instinctive shooting needs to be exactly that. My first 5 shots are truly instinctive. Beautiful harmony between my brain, my eyes, and my fingers. I can hit dead center without thinking about anything. My mind is clear, and that's all that matters. Everything after that just turns into practice. Target panic sets in, practice panic sets in, you start thinking about back tension, form, am I hitting my anchor, and of course every RUclips video out there trying to teach you how to instinctively shoot. Paralysis by analysis unfortunately. You owe it to yourself to trust yourself...only then does it truly become Instinctive Shooting.
Great points about the instinctive aspect. But even for the guys that aim this method really drives home the importance of really making that first shot count.
@@SamkoTradBow, I think the later part of putting some skin in the game is counter productive! It is the emotional value that one puts on the outcome of the shot is what causes one to miss/ get buck fever etc. When the mind is empty the arrow will go where you see . Same reason why archers with perfect score don’t shoot the same in a competition
Yep my buddy john for his last couple shots does push ups and jumping jacks to get his heart racing and tire him out to make the last couple shots under pressure like that too.
Work 10 to 1900 i shoot 1 every morning and ill shoot 8 or 10 and random range every day after work and iv gotten so much better over the last 3 or 4 months its crazy
Great video! Chuck and Family are in our Prayers! Jason, what is your backstop made of? I know in Georgia you have neighbors close by which is my situation too here in souther IL. Don’t have much room in my yard so need to make a safe backstop to be able to shoot here at home. Thanks
here is a video that is not published yet on the back stop and how I made it. I have quite a back log of videos ready to go so dont know when it will publish officially but you can use this link to watch it in the unpublished version. ruclips.net/video/JBb5yUEf_2U/видео.html

It sure does make you focus more on that cold shot.
I practice this way the closer we get to season! You only get one in a real hunting scenario
Yep its a great practice technique

Great advice

Yep great tactic and great practice idea
Thanks for information
Very welcome
This is a great practce idea. My first few are never as good as later. This teaches you to take that first shot seriously! Thanks.
It's a brilliant technique and definitely can make a day crappy🤣🤣🤣

Very true and great idea

I tried it this morning, and got a good hit. I’ll see how it goes tomorrow
Hopefully good hit everytime! MKes for happier days🤣🤣
Great video Jason. Hunting is dynamic and we have to practice the way we play. Thanks for putting this out! Good luck!!
100% agree and well said.
Work midnights. Come home every day. Grab bow in garage. Then shoot 1 arrow at 20. Live with it. The evening I shoot 25 shots. Yes this is good stuff.
fantastic system. Thats what Chuck does. He shoots a cold shot in the morning before work and has to live all day with the results and the penalties he puts on himself for a bad shot. then in the evening he does regular practice sessions.
Good video, thanks for the information. I'm really interested in that target/backstop you have. What materials did you use to make it?
Have a video on it going live tonight on this channel! Check back in a few hours!
Cool, thanks so much

Also important, Final I do in a session is The last of the day type shot when you are tired, to simulate that as well.

@@SamkoTradBow Awesome! Thanks
I want to go hunting with Chuck Norris 😒
Extra veriterribles for you buddy 😉🤣
And too often too🤣🤣
Are you in Ga yet? I’d like to invite you on a hunt. What is the best way for me to get a hold of you and send you a private message! Cheers…
I'm not in ga until late November. Jason@tbwpodcast.com
The cold shot is the only one that counts, not the redos!!!
100%
As Jeff Phillips would say, be “Hunt Minded” with EVERY shot.
Great training exercise! A true ‘real world scenario’ put into practice.
That's a great mind set
But you still took two shots
Sacrifices I make for you guys as I try to produce videos🤣🤣
Too much talking, get to the shot and cut the reiteration please.
