One of my all-time favourite moments in Sport. I remember this happening in my hometown (yes, I'm from Brisbane), and whenever I get angry about the lack of integrity in professional sport, I think about this great moment in amateur sport, and am cheered by it. Thank you for posting it.
As an American who’s basically all of Irish and Scottish DNA - I’ll tell you you right now this actually makes me tear up every time I watch it. Great stuff and good on the boy. People should give less of a shot about certain stuff.
Seán Ó Sirideán As a Limavady man where a plaque is outside the house of Jane Ross. She was a collector of folk songs and heard a young boy playing it on the street corner. A busker as they call them today. The street was clef Main street where her house still stands. She copied the music by hand and submitted it without a title. Later Dr Frederic Weatherly added the words. Nothing to do with America and in Limavady we have a Danny boy festival.
One of the most moving moment of Commonwealth Games History

Des Lynam was wrong. Its because they couldn't get the tape machine for the national anthems to work, so someone sang Danny Boy instead
As opposed to Auckland? But yeah, I still remember how awesome this was.
Actually its not about Derry or Londonderry..its an old American air wrote for oldtime fiddle playing made famous of course by us Irishmen/women.
+Seán Ó Sirideán wrong it an old irish tune and the words are by an english doctor
Seán Ó Sirideán it's from the Muppets. Then Irish people started liking it.

They couldn't find the tape for Londonderry Air, so sang Danny Boy instead.
