It’s more important to wear eye protection in overcast weather than in full sun, to my understanding. Your pupils stay open to catch as much light as possible, but the UV light is still coming through the clouds at full strength.

That looks like the Scottish summer we're having right now. Usually the first two weeks in June are glorious, so me and my wife head off on our motorbikes and tour around the Highlands and Islands, but we're not gonna be able to do that until the weather improves. Wild camping in the pissing rain and cold is no fun whatsoever.

1978 was a great year it seems. It was the year I was born as well. Dire Straights- Sultans of Swing came out that year as well. As for LaCarre, I listened to the audio book of his last novel called “An Agent Running in the Field.” Which was excellent as well and in a modern setting.

You should check out the BBC production of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy; it can be found on youtube. Alec Guinness plays Smiley even better and the BBC version is extremely based on the book; almost word for word thus is much longer than the movie with more depth. The BBC also did the sequel Smiley's People with Alec reprising his role.

I saw and met Blondie when I was 14yrs old at CBGB’S and yes I blushed because of her stunning beauty and can’t remember the conversation because I couldn’t stop staring lol, that was just one of the many people-bands I met growing up

When you get through all the Le Carre books, you should check out Agent Sonya by Ben MacIntyre. It’s the true story of a soviet spy operating in England during WW2. A super read.

#ask stuff and things, hey Bradley, I'm 15yrs older than you. I remember when the Cars and Blondie came out. Never saw either band live but I was fortunate to see Benjamin Orr open for Styx at a show here in NYC. He did the hit Drive that he sang with the Cars. It was amazing. I also love the sunglasses you're wearing. I wear glasses and I got transition lenses that become sunglasses when I am outside. Will check out the latest episode of Working (love that series). Enjoy your book. Cheers

If you liked John LC, then I'd recommend you check out the Philip Kerr Bernice Gunther novels. Similar dark and moody feel, but set in 1930s and 1940s Germany. Brilliantly written and lots of critical acclaim.

Elvis Costello's "My Aim Is True" is another fantastic album from that era. There's not a bad song on it.

If you haven't already discovered ELO (Electric Light Orchestra), I would highly recommend giving them a good listen. They're from the same era as Blondie and the Cars, but had a very unique caveat about them.

Bradley, all I have to do to hear a hit song from the year I was born is watch the first ten minutes or so of "Goodfellas" and listen to Tony Bennett sing "Rags to Riches." 1953, the first year of the Eisenhower Administration. As for my favorite song from your debut year, it would have to be Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street." As soon as the song ended on one AM station, all you had to do was turn the dial and you'd hear it again. I was 25 at the time. If you want to get a spot-on look at that time, RUclips has a Midnight Special performance by Jennifer Warnes doing "Right Time of the Night." The clothes, the glasses, the hair... that's how young ladies looked when I was a young man. Great video today. You are anything BUT boring!

Cool glasses they actually fit well, look into the water as true polarized glasses enable you seeing deeper into the column and spotting fish.

Since we seem tuned to the same music, I will suggest some really obscure 80s acts, mostly from UK, Canada, and Australia that you might dig: Payolas, Platinum Blonde, The Damned, Icehouse, Dragon.

Blondie! My first ever birthday present from my dad, via my brother, was the cassette "Blondie". Didn't that get played to death. I was 14 - 1979 maybe.

With you on The Cars and Blondie. "Candy-O" is an even better album.
"Dreaming" was the first Blondie song that grabbed me. On the first four Blondie albums, pay attention to Clem Burke. He has to be one of the best drummers from that era. Pay attention to Burke's drumming during the keyboard and guitar solos on "Man Overboard" from their first album. Jimmy Destri (keyboards) and Chris Stein (lead guitar) are also painfully underrated musicians, but that's what happens with a girl singer out front.
My mother was a big John LeCarre fan.

you made me get out my jacket and still cant fit into it. this injury really screwed my weight up. but it will this fall! we are all old. i can say, when you hit 35 it seems to get quicker. i feel like i just turned 35 and now 52. enjoyed the music talk, but not my bag even though i have many of that time period. i found the grateful dead in the late 80s and found a band i could always listen too. 60s and 70s seem to have had the best music and then find bands that jam seems to be what i like today. thanks brother, hope you are still well as in your voice and actions tell me. i am still a big fan of being outside!

I was born in '63. I love The Cars and some say Blondie started rap. So we should blame her. I've been meaning to try Quiet Nights but I kind of got stuck on Dunhill 965. I probably have a ten year supply. I have yet to try the Peterson replacement. I kind of stopped smoking for a while and just recently began again. I opened up a tin of Macbarren Plum Cake from about 2017. Pretty good stuff. I have a tin of Elizabethan Mixture too. I just started watching your vids again a few weeks ago and am trying to catch up with what is happening with you. Be well Bradley, I'll keep tuning in from Oklahoma.

I watched your concrete cutting vid. One question. Do you wear hearing protection while running the saw? If not, this may be why you hate the task. Even if we "get used to" loud construction noises, damage is being done and it causes psychological fatigue.

I finished this video yesterday, but just quickly commenting now. I think I've seen the Shinzo Yamura brand around before. I still have to say that sunglasses are still fairly uncommon in Japan, at least from the day to day on the subway. The reason sunglasses are so jarring here is because so much communication is through eye contact alone. I know that I've discussed this a few times in the past, and it still remains one of my reverse culture shocks when I see people wearing sunglasses. I still think your demo pair is still cool regardless, though!
Also, it looks like we're on similar life paths as it is pretty much set that I will be moving this month. As it stands right now, I still get up at 4:30 am daily to get to work, and this schedule is not sustainable long term. I don't think I'm ready to disclose my new location yet, but I will still remain in Japan.

As you probably know, anything Japanese named or labelled is unambiguously tied to the makers of the product. It is representing themselves in the product. It is not a concept the more contemporary Western companies get, but it is pervasive in Japanese life. Anyway the glasses look cool Bradley!
