Is that false color basing its info on the flat log profile or is it using like some type of already applied to the image to create the IRE? Also all these exposure tools do they go off of the log image with a LUT applied in camera for monitoring or is it just purely the actual log image
Speculating, but the GH5 has Vlog L which is like a lite version of Vlog and I “think” the dynamic range is a little different. Since that false color out was created for the GH5 vlog “L”, that might be why the highlights seem like they are blowing out so soon. Just guessing.
@@AaronArao no worries, thank *you* for your vids! Also, I can give you an idea of how to make a real false colour LUT for your S5iiX - I just did it for mine and it may be a cool vid for you: The S5iiX has the spot meter that gives you f-stop readings, from it you can see that the highest value you can achieve is +6.3 stops - that and above is your clipping point. Play it safe and ND/shutter the camera down to when the spot reads +5.3; +5.3 to +6.2 is your near-clip area. +1.0 is your 1 over mid grey +0.0 is your mid grey The lowest value the S5iiX will read is -8.0 - that’s your black clip Between -6.5 and -7.9 it’s all quite noisy, so I used it as near black clip. Take the videos of the areas of known uniform illumination, as per your spot meter readings and you should end up with six of them (in LOG, please): +6.3 and above +5.3 to +6.2 +1.0 +0.0 -6.5 to -7.9 -8.0 and below Then all you need to do is to upload all to DaVinci, in each video switch the colours to monochrome in the first node, then in the second node finely isolate the area of known exposure with the qualifier tool (put feathering to 0.00) pull the log offset wheel to the desired colour (red, yellow, pink, green, blue, purple). Then you’ll just need a new LOG vid, where you create six parallel nodes and copy-paste the second nodes from the previous vids into these accordingly. Then add the last node with CST of V-log to rec.709 - that’s your custom false colour LUT done. It was a little cumbersome, but I even managed to assign the exposure button next to the red record to display this false colour LUT If you find it useful and you ever make a vid - you’d be the first on RUclips. Mention a thanks to a ‘Russian-British DoP’ if you do ;)
Isn’t real time LUT going to burn the false color onto the footage? I think you mean use the LUT assist when using VLOG. I wouldn’t use the real time LUT for this at all. All that being said, great video and explanation otherwise. Had my S5II for a year and didn’t know I could assign the shortcuts on corners of the wheel. That’s amazing. Subbed!
yeah you're totally right it will burn into the footage. the workflow I have right now is to switch from v-log to the False Color LUT using the short cuts just to check the exposure, but then switching back before recording. I like leaving the rec 709 conversion for the LUT assist! I appreciate the sub thank you :)
Yeah, false color is the best when you have 15 minutes to setup every shot :) People who use $2000 cameras have 0.5 seconds to set their exposure so learn to look at the screen :) Also, your grading looks like a video from a 5 year old Huawei phone :)
Here here, I only use the histogram right now, I'm still learning the S5IIX and with that I feel I'm not yet ready to use zebra patterns. The waveform may the my next move though, that can help to get your footage pretty close to where it needs to be when editing. In addition I use the waveform allot in Davinci Resolve so that's definitely what I'll be using next.
Ive always used the histogram for exposure. So the false color is sorta like zebras with color? I see how it can be used for exposure in general. Learning what all of these tools are specifically used for.
is there a way to toggle between two real time luts? Ex.: I am using false color luts, then I want to see the V-log to rec709 convert lut just to check on the image...
great video! well explained, good job, thank you 🙌
Great video! I just got my s5iix and this is exactly the stuff I want to know. Thank you, subbed!
Thanks for the sub! I'll keep the lumix content comin
Very well done and useful tuto. Thank's a lot.
Good stuff my guy, im def subing to your channel, Lumix gang!
Yessir I appreciate it! Thanks
Good Job! My 9G2 came in last week. Looks like this video applies to that camera as well. Thanks much for your time.
I appreciate it! Excited for you. new toys are always fun 👊

How did you make luminance spot meter show stops instead of percent?
this is a great video but I don't see the false color lut on the link
Fixed!
thank you

@@moojoo1972 agreed. Do you have a link?
thanks for the help
The highlights are off cuz the false color in your link is for GH5 - different dynamic range
Also, aren’t these free?
huh thanks for lmk and yes free!

Histogram is the OG. Get's the job done for sure! I need to get on Davinici Resolve for better color grading
Great video. Keep them comming. I just bought the lumix s5iix so trying to set it all up
Coming back to this video fore reference. That's a good sign! Keep it up.
Here for the 5th time now, btw.

yeah you're right when you compare it to zebras! Histogram is a classic easiest to understand too

I'm a moron, it was in the video :))
