My husband and I, original northern Michiganders, have been rolling stones living all around the country for decades and yet have always remained northern Michiganders down deep in our DNA. It's always been "home" no matter how long we've been gone. This song, sung and played on one of those wonderful peaceful northern Michigan beaches (I can feel the coolness of that sand and hear the slow methodical lapping of the waves as I write ) stirs my heart in all the right ways. Love this song-and I can tell The Hacky Turtles do, too. We left our hearts in the Traverse City area and are returning to collect them again as soon as we can.
I worked at the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and was involved in training. I was fortunate to have spent some time in Traverse City! Great Town! Very nice people, plenty to see and do! I'm going to try and make it back up to TC and enjoy the sights and activities!
Wow. Great stuff. Been a rough time, but I finally made it for retirement to the place I wanted to end up. And now it's spring in Traverse City. I will make it now, thanks to being here with all these good people.
Makes me realize how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful community. I love to share our community with visitors because it allows me to be a tourist in my own town.
I vacationed there for a week in September, 2021. My whole visit was Awesome, to say the least! I had been wanting to visit TC for years, especially during National Cherry Fest. I'm planning on returning this September, to take the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, & eat a great steak in TC at a couple of the finer restaurants.
Excellent job Hacky Turtles. I love the Jack Johnson vibe. It captures the essence of the area well (even though Sleeping Bear/Leelenau have their own towns which are not TC.) It would be interesting to hear a female singer join in on another version.
***** After listening to it again, it's also a wee bit 'HEM' like, for those familiar with that band. They did the 'torn from the map of Michigan' song used in a commercial a few years back. I like this song.
Home town ... Funny how many little videos our little town has ... They keep popping up on my feed ... Strange, but cool ... Hello to all my TC people ... All that see this video, comment and let's meet up for movie night ... Clovid got the world shut down, but the movie theater rents out an entire theater for up to 20 people ... 100 for an older movie and 250 for a new release ... We all pitch in and make it a night .... Let me know
Natives in Traverse City,Mackinac, etc. Call lower state folks & tourist's fudgee's . Primarily because they think everybody just comes for fudge. They do make it better than anyone else but many of us do not eat fudge. As someone who lives in the burbs of Detroit I always resented that term. Went to TC a couple times best time to go is Cherry festival. Hotel prices are expensive though. But it's like that everywhere. The Island is ridiculously high at least TC is somewhat reasonable. Having a hotel room right on lake Michigan is awesome though.
+Carol Crowley From Wiki: "Michigan, My Michigan" is a popular anthem in the State of Michigan, and erroneously believed by many to be Michigan's official state song. The actual state song, "My Michigan", was formally adopted in 1937 but remains relatively obscure, due in part to the misconception that the official song is "Michigan, My Michigan".
Why is Traverse City making a claim to things that lie in Leelanau County. Last I checked the sleeping bear dunes and good harbor lakeshore were NOT IN TC. Please remember this TC. Give credit where due.
Hi Erik. Visitors to this area frequently request information on Sleeping Bear Dunes, the lakeshore, and many of the wineries in the Leelanau County. It is therefore part of Traverse City Tourism's mission to promote the region and all of the attractions within it. Thank you for your reply.
+Erik Bahle One of the greatest selling points to any city you choose to live is the proximity to attractions. Not all entertainment needs to be within a 5 minute drive. The city I currently live in is nothing special, but I like living here because I have the ocean not too far east and the mountains not too far west. That makes this a pretty awesome place to live.
Good video. The only problem i see here was there was hardly any people of Color. Lots of Europeans . Would like to see more diversification in that area.
Missing Traverse City so much... =(
It has been the most beautiful place i have ever been =)

singing my thoughts about traverse city
wow
Beautiful town right up to the moment the six month long blizzard hits on September 9th. Then, not so much
Beats the heat and hurricanes we have. This place looks like paradise.
Take me there! I'm in the cluttered southeast Michigan...

I can think of a song by Christopher Cross, but change to "If you get caught between the moon and Traverse City..."

When people think of a spot they often think of the region. Do you always cry this much? You must be fun at parties.

To north no thank you

That's because it's racist up here. Few black people need the hassle.
Instantly has me crying 😭
What an amazing song!!!
Last time I was in Traverse City it was filled with drunken tourists fighting and locals gave us wrong directions multiple times.
Ah cherryfest, screaming adults and drunk kids everywhere.
