Señor Art Blakey was a very good friend to me. For 5 straight years, I played at and ran the “Art Blakey Breakfast Jam Session” at the Jazz Cultural Theater.
He sent me a new set of Pearl Drums for the club and to this day, that’s the best regular jazz jam session I know of. People like Lionel Hampton, Freddie Hubbard, Stanley and Tommy Turrentine, Donald Byrd, Jaco Pastorius and so many more came and played!!
I would go to his gigs (sometimes he’d have me sit in) and then he’d come to my jam. Afterwards we’d go hang at real after hour places and a whole weekend might go by.
He often told me that he wanted me to play with a big band he was going to start but it never happened. R.I.P. my friend and thanks!!

Hey Zildjian!!! Art Blakey is my favorite GOAT/OG drummer. I'd buy these Ts in a heartbeat if they had a different background colour. My spiritual path/tradition doesn't allow me to wear Black clothes. Do the Ts come in other colours? And for women, in small?
