Your essence system has truly changed the way i see clothing and styling,it also helped me reconnect with myself. Im a right down man and for whatever reason i always felt less than because i was never seen as the intimidating or macho( left down) guy as my other male family members but i never felt very classic or sophisticated (right up) like the people i was inspired by. When i saw your right down video i immediately felt a connection and as i become more confident i do pull a bit of inspiration from left down styling but still not losing my universal and intutive side. It really made me more secure in my masculinity and overral self esteem. I feel this system can change alot of lives
If I’m understanding correctly, I think “up” might be described as using the clothes to communicate a message to others, while “down” might be described as using the clothes to communicate the self.
It's like your jumping off point and your priority! I see! The rights need an anchor point, the lefts need a seed of inspiration. The ups prioritize what theyre presenting, the downs prioritize what theyre feeling. Also, I love your avid use of the word luminous for right+down...it makes me feel good about myself :)
I just had a style consultation with Rita. Wow she is amazing. She spends so much time and energy giving us this loving, accepting and unique system. Best birthday gift I have given myself. Rita we appreciate you!
Please don’t ever stop explain these concepts and working with people because you are phenomenal. I have always love clothing and style and been very confident in myself. But every time I see pictures of myself I don’t end up looking the way that I wanted to come across/the way I thought I had. You’re helping me so much understand what and how to achieve what I want to!!!
Thank you for this video, Rita, because now I have finally identified myself in your system. I am a Left+Up!!! Which is mind-blowing, as it was the first one I eliminated and quite quickly. I spent ages trying to work out whether I was Left+Down or Right+Down, as I have dressed 'down' for decades. But the whole reason I have been following your channel and exploring various style systems for the past year is because I have lost 'who I am' and that once I discover my true style/essence I will be able to finally express my authentic self to others. I know now that the reason I dismissed Left+Up so quickly was because of resistance!! And where there is the greatest resistance is the path forward!! Thank you so, so much. I am going to watch the Left+Up video again, through new eyes, because it is my style essence home. And I do feel 'home'. (Now I just have to work out what on earth I can wear as a Left+Up Dramatic Classic with an ultra casual lifestyle!!)
I was pretty settled in Right+Down already but that part you mentioned about thinking "how can I show up to this event and how can I make it true to me?" really sold it for me. My entire life I've been trying balance what the event is, what I should be wearing (or think should) with what I really want to wear and who I really am
@@StyleThoughtsbyRita yay! I've really been loving your system, it feels like that little piece I was missing to find a personal style that's cohesive with my body, my face and my personality
You made some great points, well done finding such deep motives behind dressing. As a left-down "flamboyant" woman I often wish my outfits had no impact at all on others so that I could truly dress just for myself. I noticed that my most eccentric looks are intimidating and create a distance with others, that makes me super awkward in return... I have to figure out to style down/dress down to avoid this situation while trying to stay true to myself/my taste and preferences.
I appreciate this breakdown of the right versus left and up versus down--the logic really fits what i've seen! the left up section on wanting to be seen via clothes spoke to my soul, holy shit. my autumn dramatic mom identifies as a right down who can move a bit up, and she definitely does think about her situations and context even though she's also bringing her own perspective and energy through her style. it's a very powerful combination! she has a gorgeous unfussy style that stands out but is very approachable, and it helps her accomplish her goals as a teacher and as a woman so well
I'm learning so much about how other people think, I love that! I really liked your comment on the right up woman wanting to make a contribution. When someone asks me why I'm interested in style and clothes that's what I wanna say! Also, I like your outfit's vibe, so comfortable and glamouros at the same time
23:25 literally that’s why I predicted that you weren’t a left down. I feel like it would be harder for a left down to notice & acknowledge these other perspectives to then create this system. It’s so cool when I see ppl who naturally can come outside of themselves to articulate & advise others about their mindset when you’re not that same mindset type.
You are so insightful. The Essence system makes sense to me. I really don’t know what my essence is. I used to be teased because I preferred a more put together look, which makes me very insecure about how I look.
I love your channel and this video! It definitely confirms me as a right up, I always find myself looking for an event that matches my up-ness so that I can be fancy in peace.
It was so helpful and really solidified everything for me when you said that RU looks at the event or occasion they are dressing for and how to properly do so. This is SO me. I always pick an outfit based on where I am going, who I will be with and what I will be doing there. You spoke to my heart and I can’t wait to uncover more!
Hey Rita, been following your videos for a while now and absolutely love them. Appreciate your approach so much! If you can you should make a quiz so your subscribers can find out in what catagory they fall. I do truly think you have found a unique concept here that could be beneficial to a lot of people.
A quiz would be super useful! Specially if it's a political compass style quiz that doesn't just give you a quadrant but plots where you are within that quadrant more precisely
Thank you for this very comprehensive translation of your system which I really like! I could very much relate to left down now and it kind of confirms that I am right for myself in dressing a bit down in my work environment as it makes me feel better and more myself and more confident than sticking to the dress code although it makes me feel like being in a cage. When I was younger (am in my 40ies now) I struggled with that a lot as I worked in a quite conservative firm. It feels so good allowing myself my left down personality to show. Thanks for encouring us to speak our truth through fashion 💖
My first time hearing about your system. This was incredibly well explained and so validating! I can't wait to discover more about myself as a left-down woman.
I think I fit in the Wildflower type but a lot of the times I go up and and like to be seen and recognize and unique. I’m unsure between Wildflower and Enigma!
Hi Rita:) First if all, I love your system ❤️ I’m wondering how does a right down or left down person dress business professional when that doesn’t “feel” authentic? That is something I have been struggling with for a while and am curious what ideas you have. Thank you for your videos:)
amazingly explained, thank you! I have a question: how about people who like to dress in a more elevated way, and present a persona, but for their own approval- is it more up or down? So for example someone who follows a gothic, or vintage style, and would present a much more "up" (elevated) style in a casual/jeans setting.
I love that question, it kind of depends on the person but my intuition is that they are more "down". I've had some vintage dressing clients with a strong right+down essence so even though they kind of stand out they are still dressing in a very intuitive/personable way and that is "stronger" to me than all the effort/drama of their look 💖
Enjoy explore the essence system!!! I rewatch this after doubting my inner essence whether it's more up or down (It's kind of in-between depend on situation). Even though I am not certain yet, I enjoy explore my rightness through this series lol. Quick question, if I feel like I myself more when I dress up a bit (my version of dress up tho), is it an indication that I lean towards up more than down?
Not really! Sorry I know it's frustrating but... It really depends Like if your "my version of dress up" is choosing clothes you like, which feel good on your body and doing some styling or makeup to feel cute... Of course you will feel "more like yourself" Some outfits are cute but "not enough" or "too understated" for most people - EG a pair of shorts and a tshirt I think the question is how much effort and drama do you want to bring to the outfit for it to feel like "you"
One of my struggles is as a left when I’m in a situation that has expectations of me to be “appropriate “ or modest, I tend to struggle with how they will interpret my clothes. I don’t want people to judge me based on my appearance but i want to be myself.
I think that's just a normal human desire though. We all have phases and shifting needs! The point with the style logic and the style key is just to figure out what works MOST well
Hello Rita, I have just now found your channel, but while the principle is making me curious, I was struggling to find a starting point on your channel. It wasn't clear where to start, and perhaps it would be useful for you to really introduce your newer videos by making clear what system you're talking about, what it is, what it's for, and where to find the starting off point of this story. Too much storytelling at the beginning of the video and at the beginning of the chapter within the video, might be nice for those that already follow you, but kill the interest of those that are not yet invested with your "style thoughts". Good luck on your channel.
Thank you so much for your comment! I am definitely not a "youtuber" by nature but I spent the autumn taking an extremely intensive youtube course which will help me create better content moving forward 💖
Left down special/fancy event: have your fave silhouette/pieces in high end material like silk with well chosen colors. You stay comfortable, you be you, and. Not disrespect anyone. :)
Thanks for this comment, I'm left+down, and I have struggled with formal/fancy dresses literally my whole life (I even hated dresses as a kid), because nothing that I try out seems to be "me". Also being a flamboyant gamine in a world full of formal dresses for classics and romantics has not helped much :)
@@kaisa1476 M’y solution to everything is texture. And some jewelry. It’s amazing what a silk vs regular tank or tee can do visually. Without sacrificing your LD-ness. Other sustainable/ethical textures I love for fancy times: raw cotton, hemp modal, mohair, jacquard. ;)
