  • The RV plumbing system is very different from a residential plumbing system. You want to be sure you're using the right kind of toilet paper so you don't cause clogs in your black water tank. In todays video we test 7 different types of toilet paper along with a facial tissue and a "flushable" wipe. Is the specialty RV toilet paper the best or can you get away with a much less expensive toilet paper? Lets find out.
    Here are the brands of toilet paper we tested:
    1. PC Super Soft
    2. Royale Original
    3. Cashmere
    4. Cashmere EnviroCare
    5. Charmin Ultra Soft
    6. Kirkland Signature Bath Tissue
    7. Camco RV Toilet Paper
    8. Scotties facial tissue
    9. Equate Flushable Wipes

    Sort of unrelated but I had a gent do a black and grey tank flush on the 5th wheel. He told me don’t think of the black tank as a septic, it’s a holding tank. He told me NOT to use chemicals and especially ones that break down the solids to slush and to use LOTS of water when using a black tank. He said when the solids are broken down to mush/slush it sticks much easier to the sensors and sharp angles inside the tank whereas debris floats out better with larger quantities of water without leaving a sticky mud trail behind. Since he did this flush and following his advice and using lots of water it’s been operating well with much less odour problems.
    He stressed that the secret to a happy black tank was use lots of water.
    The tech also mentioned that he uses the Kirkland toilet paper brand himself for his RV.
    EDIT...I love your alls videos with a big mug of coffee Saturday mornings. Thanks

    So glad to see these results, great informative video! 🙂
    We don’t put any toilet paper (or wipes, or facial tissues) down the toilet.
    This is true at home too, where we have a septic system.
    It saves a lot of grief by NOT taking up space, or potentially causing clogs. Just have to empty the waste paper basket more often. 😉
    Thanks for this eye opening review. 😳👍🏻
    And thanks for validating our choice of paper - “Kirkland.”

    Very useful video. Thanks for taking the time to test those various brands of toilet paper. I am really surprised that the Camco RV Toilet Paper did not do any better considering the price and that it is being advertised as “specialized“ RV toilet paper. We will switch to the PC brand for our next camping season!

    Personaly I've always liked the camco. We've never had any problems with. You don't have to go to a special store, it can be found at just about any store that has even a small camping section ( Canadian Tire, Princess Auto, Home Hardware, Walmart). Now I'll admit I'm in construction and am use to that cheap, 1 ply sandpaper the porta johns use so just about anything is better than that stuff. That being said we use cashmere at home and think we may start using that in the camper as well.

    Thanks for this review! We plan on not disposing any paper products into our black tank & are still looking for a decent receptacle for said yuckies. Diaper Genie, sawdust bin, we’ll see what we end up with. You know, best laid plans and such😆. We watched HappilyEverHanks get toilet paper removed from the valve gate ditch that is close to the black tank & thought “nope, don’t want that!”

    I will continue with the Kirkland. I can use it for home as well as the RV. It is septic safe, so if I was on the road and needed to restock, I would look for septic safe.
    I was once warned by a residential plumber not to ever use Charmin as it’s too thick.

    We’ve been using the Kirkland brand toilet paper for years. I also treat the black tank with a combination of the “geo method” (liquid Calgon and liquid laundry detergent) and RV Digest-It. I can almost always flush the tank once and get the sensors back to reading empty.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  Год назад

      We've been using the Kirkland brand for years too. We'll have to try your "geo method" because our sensors haven't been accurate in years. Almost always showing 2/3 full.

  • @denniskwasnycia1950
    @denniskwasnycia1950 Год назад

    I am quite surprised that some of them dissolved that fast, within on hour. I did see one test that was taken over a one week period that would represent a week of camping. They moved the water a tiny bit each day and even the Charmin extra strong dissolved quite well during that time. Good to know your findings and great video!! Thanks again!!!!

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  Год назад +2

      The faster it dissolves the better. If you're camping for a week the first days TP has a week to dissolve but each day more TP gets put in and it has less time to dissolve right up to the day of emptying the tank you might put TP in 20 minutes before you empty it.

    Great video thanks...this upcoming season will be our first and I've been wondering whether the RV toilet paper was actually worth it...glad to see my daily brand Royale dissolved pretty good...quick question, do you think that adding those little tabs to your water would've made a difference to your results?

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  5 месяцев назад

      I think the chemicals break down the tp more so I assume it would make them all break down quicker.

  • @ottawa875

    Interesting evaluation! Would the holding tank treatment not also have an effect on how the tissues dissolve?

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  Год назад

      I would think that the holding tank treatment would speed up the break down of the toilet paper. So, the better it breaks down on its own, the better it would be with the holding tank treatment.
