i’m 13 years old and i was recently diagnosed with clinical depression. a month ago, i reached a plateau and nothing i did felt worth the effort, and nothing inspired me. making an art journal was such a great decision. its so easy and it makes me feel like i’ve done something for the day, even if it’s just recording my thoughts and gluing some papers down.
That's wonderful that you are inciteful enough at 13 to realize the positive effects art journaling has on your mental health. You should be extremely proud of yourself and for doing positive things for yourself. I hope you keep feeling better and always remember that you can always reach out if you are struggling. Be well @meghan s
i really like the point you made about art being a series of decisions. it's so easy to get stuck and wonder if you're doing "the right thing", so you end up not making any. i'll definitely refer back to this point the next time i feel like i'm dwelling too much on something. thank you jordan 💛
I have come to love this concept of "collage sort of a sticking whatever you think is pretty on a book" kind of art. I wouldn't have to be nervous about everything to be perfect or how it should be.
As a guy who has previously thought journaling wasn't a thing worth time I was completely wrong. I had just started playing the game red dead redemption 2 which I had gotten the curiosity to start a journal. It is also helpful for my stress and loneliness.
I am so so glad I ran across this video! I have been wanting to get into art for about a year-and-a-half. I have collected watercolors, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, neocolor II (that are on the way), distress crayons, alcohol markers, different pencils and pens... I bought an art Journal that looks exactly like the one you bought except it has a cardboard cover instead of black. Oh, I also have watercolor paper and some smooth Bristol paper as well as some mixed media paper... I've watched hundreds of tutorial videos... I have basically done everything (and then some) in order to start art projects and art journaling... Yet I have done nothing more then a few doodles in my mixed media notebook. My art Journal is sitting at the foot of my bed with a black bag of all of my materials (well most of them)... I keep saying to myself over and over again that "today I'm going to do something in my art Journal," and I want to... Really bad! What you said makes so much sense... One of my biggest faults is that I am super indecisive. I have such a hard time making decisions. It never occurred to me that that was the main problem... I knew it had nothing to do with my desire to do art work... I just don't know where to start. After watching your video and hearing what you had to say, I now know that it's okay that I don't know where to start, I just need to start. That's where the indecisiveness problem is. Today, I REALLY am going to make an art journal entry... I have no idea what, LOL... But that's okay. I have all the materials... I may close my eyes and just pick up one and then start with that. Anyways, I realize this is a really long comment... It just really opened my mind as to what my issue has been all along! Thank you for making and posting this video ... Please keep up the good work, you really are inspiring people ️ ❤️
This was such a well made, thoughtful video that I didn't know I needed to watch. I am someone who struggles with indecision and I never thought that art could help me overcome it. I am starting an art journal today for the first time and this video was really inspiring. Thank you for creating this, much love to you sister
Jordan, I love this video. First of all, it is so wonderful to actually see a person and a cat and you in your studio/home/art store. I have watched so many videos on art journaling, and they all have something good about them, but I get very tired of just watching someone's hands. Also, the simplicity of what you did with your new art journal makes me feel like I can do it too! I really like the advice from your art teacher. Thank you for sharing their wisdom. I will more visit your videos again. Keep posting your creativity.
Your home your style your art work the ambiance in your videos your Awsome relationship with your beloved cats I have dug out my art journal because you inspired me to 🙌 thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit xx
I recently stopped journaling and It really felt like something is missing. Now I realized that having a journal is already part of me. I want to be consistent and do my best on what I want to do. Thank your for this video. This really encouraged me to continue journaling.
Thank you for sharing your art journaling process and your prof's words!;; i started my own art journal, trying to practice on translating my idea into something and not getting upset for not being good with it!
Nothing really, an art journal is whatever you want it to be, that’s what great about it. I guess you could say a scrapbook is a little more decorated with purpose and organizing and an art journal is snippets of your life in a more free way...I guess.
Scrapbooking focuses more on keeping and organizing memories/experiences and art journaling is more for keeping inspirations and ideas all in one place.
i’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and i always love what you post. you have an air of calmness and quietude that is so lovely and inspiring, thank you for doing what you do ♥️
Such good advice about art being about decisions and what to do when you get stuck. I’m stuck and I think this will work for me. Will watch this again!
Finally found a super nice art journal video. All of the rest that I've watched have so many rules and I feel like it's too tedious for my style. I just want a calming, non scheduled journal theme. Thank you so much for this video! ❤️ ✨
I love this so much! You’re videos inspire me so much! I really hope you do this series again. Your videos are so amazing and have inspired me to start making my own videos and I hope to have a channel soon. Thank you for being such an inspiration, please keep making beautiful videos forever!
THANK YOU. You have definitely inspired me and gave me the courage to start an art journal, which is something I wanted to do for a while, but never found the courage. I was intimidated by the number of possibilities and ideas, because I thought that I might make the wrong decision.
hello jordan..♥️ I'm from India🇮🇳 I really enjoyed watching all your videos inside and I live in it... !! Whenever I watch your videos I always forget the consonant in it... I'm so glad I found your channel because I started to realize its greatness and I'm happy every time I watch it....♥️I was thinking in my mind that I could start a thing right now, but I didn't have any hope for it...But I don't have any kind of motivation So I went to somewhere very depressed and looked for something..At that time your wonderful words were heard in my ear..I was looking for many...But there is no peace of mind...♥️💫 That's why I am so glad I saw your videos..!!
@@nidhiagarwal8816 hello I am from India too, from Mizoram to be accurate:) and yes, although the partition separated us physically, I have this firm belief that we all are still united at heart! Thank you for this! I am actually having a hard time figuring out what to make on my art journal so I went here on RUclips to find some tips or inspirations! I felt so inspired and motivated after watching this!
Absolutely needed this advice, you don't know how deeply I felt this--chronic indecision has robbed me of a lot of art, and probably much else. Peace and congratulations on starting this gorgeous art journal and thank you for inspiring me as an anxious artist.
Love your professor's advice to choose any creative action over getting stuck in indecision. That's exactly what's happened to me. Thanks so much, Jordan. Bright blessings.
Lovely as usual ✨💖✨ The concept of art being a series of decisions was probably one of the most important that your art professor could have taught you. I’ve actually been thinking along the same lines lately, that creating art is a process of problem solving. So now I feel validated that I’ve been on the right track 😄
I found this in a time when I am currently feeling lost & uninspired. Seeing your art and hearing the words your professor said lit up a spark of inspiration within me again. Looking forward to creating an art journal for Year 2021, along with random thoughts and memories made. Thank you so much! 🤍
I have to say this! Your taste on music is just wonderful!!!!!! You not only did completely beautiful art but everything here was simply super pretty! I enjoyed everything, even your voice and stories! ♥️♥️♥️♥️ Thank you for this, now is the end of the day where I am and this made my day ♥️
Your art teacher sounds incredible! I always wonder where I’d be if my art teachers tried to instill life lessons instead of trying to turn us into them
Your professor's interpretation of what art is... is inspirational. One of the reasons I've been running away from art is because I was plagued by indecision. Hearing that there's no bad art just another decision is motivating me to start drawing and creating again (even though first i think i should get some studying done)
I love all your videos, but I found this particularly inspiring as what you said about decisions in art is completely applicable for life decisions - you get better as you go along, you refine yourself and get to know yourself better as being stuck in indecision is really a very sad place to be.
This was sooooooo perfect thank you for all the inspiration and ideas I was looking for something new to do with this quarantine time.....and this is perfect!!!
As I sit here wondering what to do in my art journal..you have completely inspired me watching this! thank you! Jordan where did you get those foil stars..they remind me of my childhood in school when we got stars for doing well! It was like a little boost of youthfulness when I saw those stars...

Other days I'm so energetic but I just cannot find the thing in me to feel happiness. But I've started an art journal today and it made me feel so much better.
I've been meaning to start one since two years. I would set up my supplies, sit down, and that's where it ends. The moment I sit down, I think to myself what am I doing. I start imagining how it would turn out, and just play around with the photos and stuff, and then I would say it's not right. It isn't like any of the art journals I see. So, I eventually don't start one. Until this day.

Thank you for sharing your art journaling process and your prof's words!;; i started my own art journal, trying to practice on translating my idea into something and not getting upset for not being good with it!
A question... what is the difference between scrapbooking and art journaling???
Nothing really, an art journal is whatever you want it to be, that’s what great about it. I guess you could say a scrapbook is a little more decorated with purpose and organizing and an art journal is snippets of your life in a more free way...I guess.
I think of a scrapbook as mostly a decorative photo album, and an art journal as mostly an art diary.
Diane McCarty that’s correct. Scrapbook is for memories and art journal is for expressing creativity.
And if it's a scrajournal it's an art diary with photo memories?
Scrapbooking focuses more on keeping and organizing memories/experiences and art journaling is more for keeping inspirations and ideas all in one place.
i’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and i always love what you post. you have an air of calmness and quietude that is so lovely and inspiring, thank you for doing what you do ♥️
