Slide players automatically do Open E, which is the Elmore James/Duane Allman tuning, but Open G is THE Delta Blues tuning, favored by Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters.... and of course Ry Cooder and Keith Richards. Open G is not as bright or Major sounding as Open E, to me it's more swampy and mysterious.

Yea I like the open G tuning. I’ve also got another SG tuned to open E . Trying to learn in that too. Free Bird and such .
