We took a 15 day Viking Expedition ship to Antarctica abut 2 years. It was awesome. Viking planned it well. It was about $10,000 per person. They booked our airfare, our transportation, everything we needed, Viking provided. We didn’t do a polar plunge. The waves were too big. The ship even had a 6 person submarine which we got to use twice. We got to land abut 4 times at various islands. There were about 350 people on board so it wasn’t crowded at all. We had movies, speakers that talked about the geology, animals, weather, etc. Restaurants abounded. Even sushi and sashimi. There was a small combo of violin, piano, guitar. We had a great time. My wife has a propensity for sea sickness, and we were unsure if her patches would compensate for the then-hurricane force wind-whipped seas of the Drake - best to not ruin a pricey vacation with the potential for two days of misery crossing the Drake to start our Antarctic adventure. On our sailing, all of the gear (boots, water proof overpants, poles & parka) was part of the fare - thus, making packing for the trip FAR easier. Our pre-embarkation involved a flight from Houston to Santiago, followed by a charter to Punta Arenas, then another charter to King George Island. The above-mentioned essential gear was provided to us in Punta Arenas before departing on the charter for King George Island - we changed into the gear aboard that flight (not exactly optimal, but we managed). On arrival on King George Island, our embarkation adventure began with a 1.3 mile trek from the airfield downhill to the water's edge where we boarded Zodiacs to be ferried to the ship. (Btw, that 1.3 mile trek is uphill when the sailing ends and you're landed to trek back to the airfield.) The expedition team was very good with daily debriefs and enrichment lectures. My only counsel - if you desire to go to Antarctica, DO SO AS SOON AS YOU CAN . . . i.e., don't wait until you're older and less ambulatory. To fully enjoy the shore experiences (which ALL occur via Zodiac landings and involve trekking thru snow), you need to be able to get around on your own. There aren't enough cruise line employees to escort you individually if you're mobility-challenged - so, if you are so-challenged and still wish to go, build into the cost of your cruise hiring & bringing along your own private aid to help you get around on shore landings. Oh, and one more thing, you thoroughly wash the exterior of your boots after each landing - and they're so bulky, we couldn't wait to get them off upon reboarding the ship after a landing - each took a pair of (what our grandkids call) "slides" to slip into after taking off our boots in the equipping area.

We are not outdoors people, or climbers, or hikers, etc. We have traveled to all seven continents with National Geographic. They have never disappointed us. I’m happy you are safe and off the flight :) Maybe you want to consider sending that part of your footage to the airline, I’m pretty sure it’s an important thing! And thanks for the great content!
Looks like a very nice ship. My wife and I have been to Antarctica on HX/Hurtigruten's Roald Amundsen. I can say that the ships are equally nice, albeit the Amundsen is larger. Still, HX costs less and provides all the same gear, free of charge. You also only have to get to Buenos Aires and there is a free tour of Tierra del Fuego National Park before the cruise. For some sailings, they can actually be a lot less. That is why we are booked to go back to Antarctica on HX/Hurtigruten's Fridtjof Nansen. This time there will be 13 of us.
We made a trip to Antarctica with a competition line. There are many to chose from and range from a former science ship to a luxury ship with butlers. There are tour companies that will plan your trip, but most of them contract with the different lines going there anyway. Most have the same set-up...some start in Chile and some start in Argentina. Buenos Aires is beautiful but Patagonia in the south is breath-taking and worth an extension. The naturalist on board do a good job of preparing you for landing and will brief and de-brief you so you understand what you see. It is the closest one can come to traveling to another planet. It takes two days to cross the Drake Strait which is some of the roughest waters in the world, but well worth the rocking and rolling to see Antarctica. Because of changing weather, the crew may give you Plan A for the landing which quickly becomes Plan B or Plan C if the winds are too strong or waves too big. Some bigger cruises ships advertise they go to Antarctica but they just sail by because they carry too many passengers to make landings...but if you are going to travel that far and put up with the Drake Shake, you want to "put boots on the ground." Not every line does the Polar dive, but they all try to give you two excursions per day once you get "South."
@@Eatsleepcruise1 We were going with Hurtigruten at first but then came the pandemic. We finally chose Ponant because of the timing and they were great.
We went on the Seabourn Venture in early December. Absolutely loved the trip and want to go back another year....probably in January when there will be tons of whales, Orcas, and baby penguins. We were a bit early for that going in December. There was also a wedding on our trip tho my wife laughed that their wedding was on an island named Deception Island. :)
Each cruise line is different, but we believe Viking now charges for the submarine. When we sailed with them that was an included excursion as well. Happy cruising, when is your next sailing?
$25,000 is a lot, but if you do your research and don't require all the bells and whistles, you can go to Antarctica for a fraction of the cost. I took an expeditionary cruise for only $5000. 9 days; 4 for the crossings, and 5 on the continent. We went ashore 8 out of 9 expected landings. The final one was scrapped because we needed to get ahead of a storm that was coming into the Drake. But it was well worth the experience. And for about $500 dollars a day, it wasn't bad. Only a bit more expensive than you might pay for a Caribbean cruise. It was a once in a lifetime experience. But I may try to go back in the future. Maybe to the South Pole. But that's much more expensive. I think everyone should try to go at least once in their lives.
if I want an Ice Buzz I visit the Ice Bar in Melbourne Au for a cool $500 4 of us can splash in vodka, bubbles and snake bites and then return to a refreshing 40C summers day down the beach
Great review of a cruise line i am just learning about thank you so much,, Antartica is on my bucket list,, Im 66 tho so feel like i might be a bit to old ?
Sounds like flexibility with the itinerary is a must for these types of adventure voyages. At least you actually got to go to Antarctica unlike NCL that changed the itinerary on embarkation day to exclude Antarctica. No inclemencies though, just a go slow order regarding whale migration. Year right, the go slow order was issued two years or more ago. Dint think I’d have that kind of flexibility.
We typically walked around in jeans and a lightweight 3/4 quarter zip up. The ship was very comfortable. Overall, layers are key. Are you thinking of going?
Yes , I agree. A lovely looking ship and a beautiful experience with the penguins and glaciers and all but I cannot justify spending what some people don’t make in a year when people cannot even afford a roof over their heads or groceries for their families. Honestly I don’t understand how people afford this , especially younger people. But thank you for sharing your trip .
Great video. I am thinking of taking one of these cruises and was wondering - did you purchase travel insurance? If so where is the company you purchased it from. Or do you have a credit card that has good travel insurance.
Thanks for watching. There wasn’t much in terms of entertainment on the ship, but that is on par for any expedition cruise. What cruise lines have you sailed on in the past?
Your video is one of the best ones i’ve have seen covering different topics of Anartica Expedition cruise! I want to get your input whether Perito Merino Glacier is a definite must-see after the Anartica cruise? Our itinerary is pretty tight allowing very little time to squeeze in Perito Merino Glacier. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
At the time we went the cruise line was as running a 50% off deal so it was 15k for a double occupancy cabin. Are you thinking of taking an Atlas cruise?
Definitely do not open the window if the deck is closed!!! Some research with safety would be food to do also. In Drake's passage there is always chance of getting hit with rogue waves and those are not a joke. Bit over a year ago someone died because of one of those. Also Atlas clearly didn't do good enough job with their safety briefing.
That was a full blown standard cruiseship inadequately prepared for drakes passage. She sat Under a sheet of glass that fell. Princess cruises. Like wearing jeans on a spacecraft
Wait what? This is a rip-off. Just did a 10 day Seabourn Luxury Expedition Cruise to Antarctica for 1/5 the cost and we got 4 landings and 4 zodiac tours + the polar plunge and kayaking. And they never stopped serving alcohol lol
Yeah, Quark is pretty amazing. Mostly smaller (~100) ships so you get more time on land, they have AMAZING educational crews, you can keep your parka, and it was under half the price of this one. The only downside was that being in a smaller ship meant the Drake Shake is a bit more intense.
If I’m expending the time, effort and money to go to Antarctica….I want to see and spend more than 90 minutes on Antarctica. Could care less about the cruise amenities…because if that is a priority, there are 100’s of cruises that probably offer better amenities, at less expense. Finally, I hope this particular cruise line too all the necessary precautions not to introduce human-born bacteria or other pathogens that could impact Antarctica’s wildlife?
Would you consider taking a cruise to Antarctica? 🇦🇶

We're in our 60's, and did Antarctica in Dec 2021 with Silversea. Ok, that's a high-end way to go, but
a) they appeared to us to be the best regarding all of the pre-embarkation logistics, and
b) they offered an "Antarctic Bridge" option which involved roundtrip charter flights from Punta Arenas to King George Island, thus avoiding the volatile Drake Passage.
My wife has a propensity for sea sickness, and we were unsure if her patches would compensate for the then-hurricane force wind-whipped seas of the Drake - best to not ruin a pricey vacation with the potential for two days of misery crossing the Drake to start our Antarctic adventure.

Is this a random video of an airplane approach or it’s really the airplane you used to fly to Ushuaia?
It’s really scary man!!!!
Those videos are of our flights. We didn’t notice those cracks.
I’m happy you are safe and off the flight :)
Maybe you want to consider sending that part of your footage to the airline, I’m pretty sure it’s an important thing!
And thanks for the great content!
Those aren't cracks, they are riveted panels. Very common on aircraft wings. @@aidinrezvani
@3:00 We'd actually exactly "rough it on some retrofitted science vessel!"
Everyone is different. Happy cruising.
Thanks for the feedback. Antarctica is an amazing place to visit. Which cruise line did you use to sail there?
@@Eatsleepcruise1 We were going with Hurtigruten at first but then came the pandemic. We finally chose Ponant because of the timing and they were great.
We went on the Seabourn Venture in early December. Absolutely loved the trip and want to go back another year....probably in January when there will be tons of whales, Orcas, and baby penguins. We were a bit early for that going in December. There was also a wedding on our trip tho my wife laughed that their wedding was on an island named Deception Island. :)
I will be going on Silverseas expedition next month to Antarctica Im really looking forward to it.
Have a great trip. Have you done an expedition cruise before?
We took Viking and kayak and submarine excursions were included at no extra charge.
Each cruise line is different, but we believe Viking now charges for the submarine. When we sailed with them that was an included excursion as well. Happy cruising, when is your next sailing?
Very nice video without any fluff. It seems they are telling it like it is.
Thanks for watching. When is your next cruise?
Just got off the Norwegian Star, a much better trip than I had imagined, saw alot but didn't get off the ship.
On Ships over 500… guests aren’t allowed to get off the ship in Antarctica
if I want an Ice Buzz I visit the Ice Bar in Melbourne Au
for a cool $500 4 of us can splash in vodka, bubbles and snake bites and then return to a refreshing 40C summers day down the beach
Great video. thanks :)
Glad you liked it! Thinking of an Antarctica cruise?
Maybe someday :) cheers@@Eatsleepcruise1
I need to go to see the penguins!
It is well worth it!
Thanks for watching. Are you planning an Antarctica cruise?
@@Eatsleepcruise1 my wife decided Norway was the urgency given some of the vessel restrictions coming for the better fiords
What did you wear for day wear while on the ship? Thanks,
We typically walked around in jeans and a lightweight 3/4 quarter zip up. The ship was very comfortable. Overall, layers are key. Are you thinking of going?
$25,000 is for a stateroom for 2 people?
Yes. That also included the charter flight from Buenos Aires.
Were there any older passengers- like late 60’s or 70’s?
Yes, there were cruisers in their 60s and 70s. We just expected more of them. lol.
Lots of older passengers on Norwegian.
One sure subject that grows a channel is a new build. In your case find diy boat builders. Wish you all the best.
We are not really DIY type, but thanks for the suggestion. We will stick with built boats for now.
Thanks for pointing out that you don’t have to be the outdoors type to take a cruise to Antarctica!
Did you visit the Post Office? We are going in a few days with Atlas and was hoping to!
We did not make it to the post office on our trip. Let us know if you get there. Have a fantastic cruise. Which itinerary?
$25,000 is insane. For that I would expect a penguin, sealion and whale performance show every day and an appearance by Aquaman.
Just confirming if I heard you correctly. The cost includes trip delay and medical evacuation insurance?
Yes, that is part of Atlas cruises offering. Not all expedition cruises offer included insurance. So check the fine print.
There are very helpful FB pages run by expedition leaders as well
Great tip. Have you been to Antarctica?
How about a video on a cruise visiting Australia or Asia - I rarely see vloggers do that itinerary.
We would love to visit both of those places. Maybe in 2024?!? Where do you normally cruise?
How about a transpacific cruise from San Francisco or LA?
Would love to do one of those, but they are not very common. Some cruises do LA to Hawaii. Which cruise line do you normally sail with?
We did a 20+ days transpacific cruise from Japan to Seattle via Alaska. It was on NCL.
Absolutely, i would
Great video, Thank you!! What month did you go?
You'll make all the flat earthers so angry! ;) Great trip guys!
Thanks for watching. Planning an Antarctica cruise?
Do they have health requirements for passengers, weight or height limits?
Good question. Some activities have restrictions, but the cruise itself did not. We saw all types of cruisers on Atlas. Happy cruising.
Great video. I am thinking of taking one of these cruises and was wondering - did you purchase travel insurance? If so where is the company you purchased it from. Or do you have a credit card that has good travel insurance.
What is the entertainment like? A must for us. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching. There wasn’t much in terms of entertainment on the ship, but that is on par for any expedition cruise. What cruise lines have you sailed on in the past?
None.
QUESTION EYE HAS IS OR CAN ANY OF THE COST ASCEND TO TAX CREDIT OR DEDUCT ON IRS RETURNS?
Did you benchmark prices
What dates did you go?
Your video is one of the best ones i’ve have seen covering different topics of Anartica Expedition cruise! I want to get your input whether Perito Merino Glacier is a definite must-see after the Anartica cruise? Our itinerary is pretty tight allowing very little time to squeeze in Perito Merino Glacier. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
I would pick Lindblad or Hapag Lloyd.
We will have to give one of those a try next time. When did you go to Antarctica?
Why didnt you go with Viking??
We like Viking and would love to try one of their expedition cruises in a polar region. This was a media trip. Have you done a Viking expedition?
How much was this cruise?
At the time we went the cruise line was as running a 50% off deal so it was 15k for a double occupancy cabin. Are you thinking of taking an Atlas cruise?
This is a Portuguese company.
I like the vibe of a real cruise chip not of an amusement park
The vibe on the ship was like any cruise ship.
Thank you. You easily convinced me I'd literally rather burn $25K than waste time on such a silly trip.
To each their own. Happy cruising.
We may go next year or 2026.
Do it. You won’t regret it. Let us know on if you have any questions.
Did you book through Atlas, or a third party travel company?
How did you get it so cheap? How did you like seabourn?
Love the rea service!
It is a nice touch. Is an expedition cruise on your radar?
Lots of audio skips in this video. Not really sure what the reason is.
I cannot even imagine having that kind of money to do that. OHHHHHH All I can do is dream. Won't happen but you can dream.
Media cruise...meaning it was free?
EYE still maintains that respective cruisers must SHED POUNDS before engaging on a FABULOUS ENGANING SHIP LINER without a single DOUBT. 🙃
I’m doing Antarctica in 2025!!!
Awesome. Let us know if you have any questions. We have a tips video coming out soon, so be on the lookout!
I was on Quark ...hardly any down time...didn't need all those luxuries.
Yeah, Quark is pretty amazing. Mostly smaller (~100) ships so you get more time on land, they have AMAZING educational crews, you can keep your parka, and it was under half the price of this one. The only downside was that being in a smaller ship meant the Drake Shake is a bit more intense.
Between Metallica and HP Lovecraft now I wanna go😂
Hurtigruten Expedition is the way to go|
wheres the bathrooms :)
Does all that poop get dumped into the waters? This
Lol, watch this video to see if you are up for a 25k luxury all inclusive trip to Antarctica....I am but I don't have 25k 😂
Strangely enough, you would have to pay ME 25 grand to go to Antarctica.
Blimey… how much bloody weight does one gain on this trip ?
I think this was one cruise we didn’t gain weight.
Not for me. I dont like being cold
❤❤❤
Why don't polar bears eat penguins?
If I’m expending the time, effort and money to go to Antarctica….I want to see and spend more than 90 minutes on Antarctica. Could care less about the cruise amenities…because if that is a priority, there are 100’s of cruises that probably offer better amenities, at less expense. Finally, I hope this particular cruise line too all the necessary precautions not to introduce human-born bacteria or other pathogens that could impact Antarctica’s wildlife?
