I definitely get the point about features becoming subscriptions down the road, but I don't think Super Cruise should fall in that bucket. Because it uses a library of pre mapped roads, GM has to constantly be updating and maintaining the library. That takes resources to do.
In addition to roads they also update Super Cruise with construction zone data. SC will still work in a construction zone if the lanes are dramatically different, btw. This is a much different situation than a subscription for heated seats (aka BMW).
I actually prefer the styling of this Optiq to the Lyriq. The proportions are better and it has a much better looking backend. The backend of the Lyriq is weird enough to be a deal breaker for me. This Optiq is a little underpowered for a premium EV, but I've been told it handles quite a bit better than the Lyriq and that's more important than going from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds.
I'm fine with paying for Super Cruise as it's a constantly evolving and improving service. It's not static. it depends on maps that need to be redone over time and for added features in the future.
How long do you think they will keep updating it? What about when they stop supporting it and updating? Are you willing to keep paying when it is no longer supported? You will never "own" it........
In 9/2024 I bought a new Cadillac XT4 to replace my wife's 10 year old Toyota Highlader... love the Cadillac XT4, and it has APPLE CARPLAY. Next time I upgrade my car, 2017 Corvette stickshift, it MUST HAVE APPLE CARPLAY or it's no sale (just like back in 2017 when Lexus did not have APPLE CARPLAY so it was a nosale for me).
So, Cadillac didn't setup the Optiq with a rear permanent-magnet motor and front induction motor (making it a rear wheel drive bias AWD system) and took the easy way out, which is what I fear would happen, it uses, the Equinox EV AWD setup, front permanent-magnet motor and rear induction motor (making it a front wheel drive bias AWD system), if they want to take on the world's premium and luxury brands, the Equinox EV setup is fine for what it is, the Optiq needs to be more
The only subscription service that makes sense is for something like Super Cruise where the roads that are mapped are constantly being updated because it is a hardware and software tool. That is a reasonable ask because there's construction and additions all the time. Exits get moved, lanes shifted over, repairs done. There needs a way to track, scan and update that information moving forward. So I give a pass to GM for charging for Super Cruise on a yearly basis. I do NOT give money grabbing companies like BMW, Mercedes and others who install the hardware of an item - like extended rear wheel steering or heated seats - and then demand a monthly payment for customers to enable it. That hardware is already there. It's already installed and there are no updates needed to keep that seated heat hardware working.
Since cars are having more and more software the auto companies are trying to do what the software companies started years ago. They're trying to make everything subscription based so they can keep milking money out of you. This way even if you buy a used car if you want that feature you will have to pay and they keep the revenue stream. This is where the consumer needs to say "NO!". If I buy something I own it and shouldn't have to keep paying forever to use it.
my problem with Gm is they always look like they raid the parts bin from there chevys / buicks ,steering wheel, etc....to make caddys.. there never gonna get serious about lux...... pop off a grill pop on a new one presto a buick, pop off a badge slap on leather now its a caddy..................
I really wish you could stop being so subjective because I'm sure many of us don't agree with you and your snarky comments. Just give details about the product and stop with all the extra it is annoying.
This isn't meant to be in depth. And for the quick review he gave a lot of information. I personally don't understand the need for your "snarky" comment to this review

I’m hoping they’re not gonna make it in China. The lyric, even though the motors are made in China is assembled in Tennessee.

By The Way, Is this another Auto Trader channel? I Saw Auto Trader presenter Is Rory
That's Autotrader UK
So $70K+ loaded as shown?
The "base" version at $54K is quite well equipped. Many will be out the door below $60K before taxes and the $7,500 US EV subsidy.

That hasn’t been the case with the new EVs everything is bespoke to the new lineup with few to little exceptions.
More garbage.
