That hood design from the side is pretty cool. Definitely a cool vehicle. Wonder why they priced it so high and well equipped? Figured a lower entry price would be something to catch an audience.
One of the worse things about my old Model 3 was those door handles. I have no idea why Cadillac thinks that’s something that they should copy. During the winter they froze over all the time and the Model X and S style buttons/handles are better on a daily basis.
You don’t remember? Well I have an idea of what happened; Cadillac revealed the Lyriq with a flush mounted very upscale push button door handle that opened the door _for_ you but *gm* trolls complained about it being “too complicated” and “too many steps to open the door” so much and others hopped on that bandwagon until Cadillac actually changed it on 2024 YM Lyriqs to this new Tesla style handle. I wish *gm* had ignored comments like this the first time, the vehicle was just fine and the Mach-E gets praises for a similar functionality to open the doors and nobody ever complains.
But surprisingly not Android Auto. I'm fine with that if they allow me to separately download Android apps onto the cars system which it seems like it allows since it's got the Google Play Store. Seems like a separate unnecessary step but I guess we will see how it all comes together.

It would be great if Cadillac would offer this vehicle in a plug-in hybrid form as well as fully electric. It's not as if GM doesn't have any experience with this sort of setup; in fact, by the last two model years, the Chevy Volt had actually become a pretty reliable vehicle. I don't understand why GM completely abandoned the plug-in power train in favor of full-electric.
Ultium is an EV-only platform. It would be difficult to insert an ICE engine (except perhaps a range extender in a Silverado). I expect GM's next PHEVs to resemble their Chinese PHEVs, such as their PHEV Equinox, which is closer to the ICE Equinox than the EV

The major problem I have with the Optiq is that none of the versions come with Rain Sense wipers. That is a must have for me. I have no idea why they left that feature out. I was even available on the Chevy Bolt EUV Premier model. The future versions of the Optiq better have Rain Sense wipers or I will not buy it. Otherwise, I really like the Optiq. The Lyriq does have Rain Sense wipers, but that car is too big for me.
What do you mean? Literally the only reason you’re saying that is because Genesis has copied their single pane display and they don’t separate the screens. _Cadillac_ was the first to do this years ago the benefits are obvious, there is no blank black space in between the two screens and it looks better than what you’ll find in the new Infiniti QX80. I’m sure once they update the 33-inch display it may look more like the one in the brand new Genesis (again, they benchmarked the Cadillac displays).
I like the looks inside and out, very sharp in red. This is much more attractive than the bulbous model Y in my view. Lack of CarPlay is puzzling as is subscription On Star, out of touch with the market.
So what you're telling me is that this won't be any better than my 1999 4wd Z71 5.3l Silverado where I need a cigarette cellphone charger and windshield phone holder to get what I want. No android auto, no buy, I'm not paying extra for things I already pay for on my phone.

After the media demonstrated how GM and their less than honest dealers were signing buyers up to share their driving habits, only for GM to sell it off to data brokers, I cannot for the life of me buy a GM vehicle that essentially requires a subscription data connection for any multimedia and likely has similar privacy concerns. Also, does it have an AM radio? I find it interesting who does and doesn’t include it these days.
i have a lyriq and love it but I probably would have bought this over it if it was out last year. And I dont use car play as android automotive is superior.
This feels like Cadillac getting to the world class engineering they lost. Is the 54K approx starting before or after incentives? If it’s before this should sell well. It would be price competitive with the average compact CUV (RAV4, CRV, Rogue) loaded at that point.
even the car companies want their recurring revenue no more car play makes them think you are sure to pay for on star and data services little do they know we are tapped out and cant afford another monthly subscription
Nope! Thank goodness the partnership ended with the Acura ZDX. Wow, reading thru the comments I guess I am shocked at how many people think Carplay is some great thing. Both Carplay and AA create a dysfunctional non standard mess when integrated with current vehicle infotainment. It would be far better if the car mfg was in control and created a unified experience (if it works and is good!). I hate AA every time I use it. Buying a 50-60k car, not really worried about a few dollars for a subscription some day. If you are worried about that, stick to Civics or something.
No CarPlay is wild. People will try and justify this and say they have a better system now so we don’t need CarPlay which is fair, but this is just so that GM can charge a subscription for connected services and collect even more data including your messages, call logs, contacts, and music choices.
Was looking forward to this one, but I’m already losing enthusiasm . Like the smaller size. Kinda meh from the c pillar back. Have my doubts that GM will provide an app experience good enough to overcome the lack of CarPlay/AA.

@@JD-yx7be Does anyone have any idea what timeline for that would be? Not likely until calendar year 2025?
Because the revamp will take longer than a few months.
No CarPlay is a deal killer for me too. I want my experience to and from the car to be seamless. i want my music, my apps, and my maps/calendar appointments to be ready when i get in the car. Having to reenter anything in their system is a major pain. It’s a nice car though. Too bad GM wants to monetize their customers with endless subscriptions.
I don't plan on jumping on the EV bandwagon anytime soon, but Cadillac did a fantastic job with the design. I especially love it in this cherry red color. Looks sharp!
Will be curious to compare options vs Equinox EV, since this gets AWD standard.
This and your Equinox EV review are very good. You're one of my favorite reviewers. Keep up the good work! Is the color Monarch Orange? Is it the lighting, your camera & my screen that make it look red?
Supercruise falls on its ears in Canada as very little of our very long highways have been mapped for Supercruise.
Their latest map info shows that they have now done most of Canada
@@genericreference6969 Wow what a change in just over 1 year, thanks!
Lost me when you said no Apple CarPlay. Needs to have at least Apple Music. Btw, your hair looks great.
Aww, thanks!
This is an Equinox EV with a Cadillac shell, which is okay, but they should have given it more horsepower and better charging speed to distinguish it from the Equinox. My guess is that GM has decided that EVs will need less parts and maintenance so that’s why they’ve singled out their EVs to get no CarPlay. I’d give the Google system a chance if I had both but since I know I like CarPlay and I know I’m already paying for enough subscriptions I’ll choose one of the many other cars that does have CarPlay. And I’m hoping manufacturers stop using haptic buttons. My monkey fingers like real clicky buttons.
@@Molishious Why cant it be a Cadillac Optiq EV that is downgraded for the Equinox?
@@jameswilson4207Doesn’t matter that much to me which is the original. I think they missed the mark on what is luxury to me anyway. On an EV I want fast charging and more horsepower.
Apple Music requires a monthly subscription, the same exact thing y’all are so upset with Google and *gm* about yet you’re requesting Apple’s monthly subscriptions and rebelling against their competitor whose vehicle you’d like to buy? That makes absolutely ZERO SENSE.
Ok caddy keep them coming looks good and the interior i be liking the fabrics 👍🏽👍🏽
Size wise this thing competes with the NX not the RX.
In looking at this vs the Lyriq:
Optiq -26 cu ft storage, 56 cu ft w/ seats folded down
Lyriq - 28 cu ft storage, 60 cu ft w/ seats folded down
Dimensions
Optiq - 188" L, 74" W, 65" H
Lyriq - 196" L, 78" W, 64" H
For $57K you can get a top trim AWD Optiq that comes with 33" LCD, 19 speaker AKG, fixed glass roof, heated/ventilated seats, 21" wheels and has a 5.9s 0-60 w 300 mile range. It weighs 5,200Lbs
For $71k you can AWD Lyriq that comes with a 33" LCD, 19 speaker AKG, fixed glass roof, heated/ventilated seats, 20" wheels, and has a 4.8s 0-60 w 300 mile range. it weighs 5,600Lbs
For an extra $4k you can get 22" wheels, and for an extra $1600 you can get a power panoramic glass roof. Bringing the total to about $76k.
While the Lyriq is bigger it seems like the added length is allocated for the rear seat passengers, not front seat or cargo area....
I just don't see justifying a $19k price difference for 1" bigger wheels, 1 second faster 0-60, and a power moonroof.
Optiq is better buy unless Lyriq is heavily discounted.
That hood design from the side is pretty cool. Definitely a cool vehicle. Wonder why they priced it so high and well equipped? Figured a lower entry price would be something to catch an audience.
No android off my list immediately
Now all of a sudden people don’t care for the Tesla style door handles either. I wish *gm* had ignored comments like this the first time, the vehicle was just fine and the Mach-E gets praises for a similar functionality to open the doors and nobody ever complains.
@@G-Rated I actually didn’t remember that, but it makes total sense now that you lay it out.
I love the way the doors work on my Cadillac ELR. It has a recessed area with touch sensitive buttons. Looks very nice, too.
Alex, dont you need subscription for super cruise?
Google integration standard, I'm okay with that
I agree, but I can see how iPhones users may feel otherwise.
@@MyMovie5858 Ah yeah, that's true.
But surprisingly not Android Auto. I'm fine with that if they allow me to separately download Android apps onto the cars system which it seems like it allows since it's got the Google Play Store. Seems like a separate unnecessary step but I guess we will see how it all comes together.
The catch is that maps and other items are a paid subscription, wants maps and other apps, enjoy your new, never ending, monthly fee to use maps in the car you just paid 50K for.
@@fighter835 your cheap and that’s why it’s an issue for you, but it won’t be for the target buyer and this is coming from an IPhone user. Besides *gm* customers are used to subscriptions we’ve had them since Onstar. Get over it.

Aww, the d-pillar looked smaller from the outside. Got my hopes up!
Great looking car, great attention to detail. The deal breaker is the mandatory subscription. You should be allowed to use your phone apps for nav after the 3 years are up.
It’s 8 years for Google Automotive (which includes nav). 3 years is for Supercruise.
I like the charging port. Maybe in a couple of years i will invest in an EV.
Aiming to attract the 29-39 demographic? Forget your iPhone or Android that you already pay for unlimited data and pay GM again? Yeah, these will suffer lot rot.
Even the 50-55 demographic won’t buy because of the lack of Apple CarPlay, but the addition of Google subscriptions. It’s absurd.
I don’t know. These are nice cars. I got the Lyriq with apple car play
Agreed. No NACS? No android auto? No sale!
@@williamerazo3921 I thought all EVs with GM lack the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities.
@@mjg1544 what’s so absurd about it? Is Apple going to offer you OTA updates for your vehicle or precondition your vehicle’s battery pack after you’ve selected a charging station in Apple Maps? It would be great if Cadillac would offer this vehicle in a plug-in hybrid form as well as fully electric. It's not as if GM doesn't have any experience with this sort of setup; in fact, by the last two model years, the Chevy Volt had actually become a pretty reliable vehicle. I don't understand why GM completely abandoned the plug-in power train in favor of full-electric.
They're picking PHEVs back up but we don't yet know what products we'll see go that direction. -Travis
No CarPlay, no coin. I’m not paying for yet another subscription service.

You pay for what you get. Let the cheap folks be turned away by something so minuscule, it allows better availability of these models for the rest of us who are serious about purchasing them.
They may run into worse EVs that offer CarPlay because those brands couldn’t invest into their own native infotainment systems, but they won’t run into superior EVs that offer Apple CarPlay because all the best EV producers have come to the same conclusion obviously for good reason.
Don’t be so short sided. After a while you wouldn’t even miss it.
IIRC Cadillac had a limited trim level set up for the first model year of the Lyriq as well, so wouldn't be surprised if this also gets more trim levels next year.
no android auto/apple carplay is a deal breaker but I like that so many luxury features are standard
I think the Google built-in will be an upgrade over the Android Auto, but probably not so much for the Carplay.
So much right here and then they blow it with no CarPlay/AA.
You'll only miss CarPlay if you soley use Apple Music or Apple Maps. Everything else is there, if not better since you don't need your phone paired.

I don't care if it's included for a limited time. If we keep buying with these rules, they will keep changing it over time. The 2024 was 8 years free? Well, this is the new model and it's only 4 years free now.
Yup. One day coming up, you'll only get 6 months- one year free, and then they will release a statement saying the monthly price has gone up to $60 or more.
10:54 That charging port door is way too big for even for CCS.
Also that dangling DC pin cover is tethered from the right side of the cover to the left side of the port. Is there any point of wrapping around cord?
No CarPlay, no regular opening sunroof?
Not sure about the sunroof - might be an option. It is on the Lyriq.
Alex, everyone wants to be Tesla. I miss... Opening.Sunroofs 😢
Me too! Big sunroof fan here! I owned a model 3 for 2 years and wished the sunroof actually opened.
They lyriq has an opening option. it might come along in the Optiq but because they are trying to keep prices down I doubt it.
Tesla is for fruits and lezzies
The Optiq's sister model, the Chevy Equinox, has the option of a sunroof you can open

What is the point of one screen vs two if you're just going to make it look like two in the software?
There is no benefit to making it extended full width one screen when the height is so small.
It’s on my list for sure.
Polestar still has CarPlay, right?
Yep
Yes indeed.
I'm not a fan of the roof and side in two tone. I have seen a photo of a black one and that makes everything blend and looks better.
Its a winner.

So what you're telling me is that this won't be any better than my 1999 4wd Z71 5.3l Silverado where I need a cigarette cellphone charger and windshield phone holder to get what I want. No android auto, no buy, I'm not paying extra for things I already pay for on my phone.
alex, i noticed that this car (and some last generation fords and honda civics) have wipers that make the M pattern. why do certain cars have that pattern where most cars have the normal wiper setup?
Alex failed to mention that even though he's five foot nothing, he has a tall 6'4 man's torso. Unless you're very tall you head shouldn't touch the ceiling.

Hopefully, the glass roof is an option and not standard.
Agreed, I hate all glass roofs, one of the worst trends in cars right now.
Love the glass roof on my ID 4, doubt I'll ever buy another vehicle without it. really opens up the vehicle . Better yet though is like VinFast has, glass roof WITH an actual sunroof that opens, get the stale air out abnd fresh air in without rolling down the windows and having wind blowng all over
Glass roof is standard, not an option. Same as Lyriq. Both have a shade you can close and you never know you have a glass roof.
Glass roof is the best trend in the auto industry right now.
@@billjohnson3344 Never know until a rock hits it.
Whoever had the grand idea of having that many touch buttons so close to each other on the steering wheel should be fired.

The Cadillac Escalade IQ will have a front-trunk as well
This feels like Cadillac getting to the world class engineering they lost. Is the 54K approx starting before or after incentives? If it’s before this should sell well. It would be price competitive with the average compact CUV (RAV4, CRV, Rogue) loaded at that point.

What is the reason for no CarPlay? Have you asked? It seems like an odd choice when only Tesla and Rivian (and the Chinese brands) are not doing it?
Awesome, a Honda Acura version???
The ZDX and Prologue are related, but there isn’t a plan for an exact Honda duplicate
Nope! Thank goodness the partnership ended with the Acura ZDX. Honda phoned in their models on the BEV3 platform and I feel it negatively impacted their partnership with *gm.* Now nothing *gm* builds and slaps a Honda badge on will do well because their customers are already aware that they’re rebadged *gm* products that Honda didn’t really give effort in making their own. *gm* customers won’t buy Honda Prologue or Acura ZDX because they’re also aware that the Blazer and Lyriq exist and they rather buy them than the phoned in Hondas.
