Had the chance to climb the Exum route n the early 1980’s and spent the night before in the hut with Glenn Exum himself. He was doing an anniversary ascent. Very memorable. Great video.
Don’t listen to a salesperson that tells you your feet should be uncomfortable in rock shoes! Even my sport climbing shoes are comfortable! And I can wear my multi pitch shoes with socks if I want to. Comfortable feet=fun days climbing!
4K HD is so realistic I geared up and had belay on watching this sitting in my chair. Love your content. P.S. Danny, you had something in your teeth in the beginning. Pumpkin seed?
Impressive to watch as always. Your ability to be confident and controlled with that kind of exposure is something that I admire and most definitely do not possess. So thanks for letting us who would be paralyzed by the exposure live it vicariously through you.
Would love to see you guys do some Eastern classics! Presi traverse, great range traverse, devil's path. Small mountains for you guys but still pose a challenge!
Single day pemi "with sprinkles" (+N Twin and Zealand) -- such a great hike. You feel like a wet rag that has had every drop wrung out when you're done.
"So can we run down now?" Danny, probably. Great climb bud, I watched Pete from Channel Wideboyz recently do a climb with a 360 cam on a pole trapped to his back. Very interesting footage!
I have tried a bit of trekking but seeing stuff like this, I can't imagine myself doing this! Immense respect for you man! Really enjoy this content! Subscribed seeing just one video!!
Glen Exum was working as a musician on a dude ranch back during the Great Depression when he made the first ascent wearing cowboy boots. That was the beginning of Exum becoming one of the most legendary climbing guides in the Tetons. I climbed the route in early June all the way from Lupine Meadows in the traditional big leather climbing boots of yesteryear. Much of it was still covered in snow and ice. I don't recall needing much upper body strength back when we wore big leather climbing boots and could stand on our feet.
Thank you for creating and sharing this video. My son guided me up this route in 2018, but my memory is a blur. This helped bring back some of the experience. In my case, not only did he do all the route finding and leading, he carried the majority of the weight of our climbing and camping gear! Thank you Jim!
Nice climbing Chase and very classy Danny to tell it the way it really is, tough and gnarly. Get some TC pro's like Chase, way more comfy, and just leave them on for all the class 5 pitches, way safer, especially soloing, that alway how I roll. . . . The cold sucks climbing, makes the risk level way more unpredictable. . . especially soloing!
Oh man, I wish I was with you guys! I haven't been trad climbing in the mountains in over 5 years!!! thanks to a move of residence that has facilitated my endurance running at the cost of my rock climbing....Now that Danny has got the shoes, more climbing videos guys! (p.s. Danny, you didn't need tight shoes for multi-pitch trad! Pain goes with sport climbing ;-) )
so funny about the climbing shoes! that's what I thought when I got my first pair, but the salesperson was definitely right! helps with stability and power on small footholds, but you probably know that now, with this video being 9+ mths old
if you do another 5th class climb, consider a gopro mount for your helmet! Though it looked like you mightve been wearing it on a mount for a couple small parts. us climbers like the pov :)
Hi there, I sent emails to see if there is an opportunity to set up a partnership on heated products and skiing gear. If interested, please check the emails. Hope you have a wonderful time this coming Christmas. Thanks in advance!
i just got back from yosemite i’m sitting in my living room by the christmas tree and fire place eating pasta and watching a mediocre video life doesn’t get better than this
Could you write in the description what time of year you do each of your adventures? It would be great to get a sense of the conditions at various times! (i know this one was in september, but in many other videos it doesn't say)
Guys... I REALLY enjoyed this video. Thank you for for sharing this great Alpine climb with us... I hope to do the "other side" next summer... don't think I will ever be ready for that route though. 🤢 🤮 Never stop climbing!
wow amazing, very amazing, I am very happy to see the videos that you make are really creative and always present the latest videos, good luck, healthy always long life, lots of sustenance, keep the spirit, keep working
Great route. Did the Golden Staircase solo, much more exposed than I was ready for. That was a good view of the route. I did it in 1995 with weather coming in. Didn't make it back to the parking lot until 3:00am. Thanks for the video.
I will always remember a fella trying to convince us to do the Owen Spalding with him even though no one else but him had gear or experience with rapping and placing gear (I have cleaned 1 trad route).. the day I met him he had summited via the Exum and said it was easily the craziest climb he had done.. he was stoked for days.. did not do the OS with him, did the middle teton instead which was still a lengthy one! Think he just wanted to get back up to the saddle to relive his epic day.. I hear the Exum is a bit crazier than OS and I guess just reading the video tags of them being on the 6th pitch (lol) that's enough for me to be a believer.. You meet some super cool people in the Jackson Hole area, 100%!!!
Oh wow the Black Face my fav it brings tears to my eyes I get to show my boys your video I only have a picture Thanks again. I had a pop top water bottle { my bad} instead of a screw on lid and lost most of my water after the lower Exum chimney. I enjoyed the summit but I never want be that thirsty again. I climbed with Rob Hienaman (sp). What a great climber he drug me to the summit also. Thanks well done.
Stoked Danny got to do this but now imagine for a second Brie Larson climbed an even harder route on the Grand for her first time rock climbing, albeit with Jimmy Chin. The route was called Petzoldt Ridge and the mini-doc/vlog about it is a good watch (timestamped at the start of the climb but the whole video is worth watching imo) ruclips.net/video/B8xeMu6NMFQ/видео.html
Way more Mediocre and way more Amateur than ballz, WTF!? That is some intense climbing! Thought I could be a Mediocre Amateur Halfer but that puts me back in a crib with a binkie! Great-Great Job on that climb to the both of ya's, my word!
you guys should do wild cat ridge!! it connects the south summit of mount olympus on the west to mount raymond on the east. heard its very technical and will require a good 12 hours since its all scrambling and ridge climbing for the most part
"I do not rock climb" - lol, How many 5.x routes has Danny soloed on this channel, too many too count!
Scary AF. but such a great experience. Thanks Danny and Chase for taking us along. 👍
The sales people are selling shoes to indoor climbers likely
Danny, you’re going to have to drop the ‘mediocre amateur’ label. That was some serious shit! Well done! 👏
The exposure was crazy. I'm not used to seeing you use ropes. Good idea on this one.
I find it crazy people can climb stuff like that, I never could. Thanks for the video great stuff
The other side would really scare you ,a big black wall .
" I feel like I've been wrestling a weak man all day." The best description ever.
The best production, no fluff, no virtue signaling, all killer and no filler...this is the real deal!!!
4K HD is so realistic I geared up and had belay on watching this sitting in my chair. Love your content.
P.S. Danny, you had something in your teeth in the beginning. Pumpkin seed?
Now that snow is here, these summer adventures are almost nostalgic
Still waiting for the snow here in Denver
For the colder weather ascents I combo slightly over-sized TC Pro's with some wool socks.
Impressive to watch as always. Your ability to be confident and controlled with that kind of exposure is something that I admire and most definitely do not possess. So thanks for letting us who would be paralyzed by the exposure live it vicariously through you.
I haven’t climbed for years, but if it means I can eat twinkies… I need to start again. Great video gentlemen.
Solid edit guys. Type 1.2 fun for sure 😃
Amature my foot... I'm sitting in the comfort of my home and had two diaper changes just to summit.
Really insane gentlemen!! Awesome job, killer footage, and excellent editing!
Would love to see you guys do some Eastern classics! Presi traverse, great range traverse, devil's path. Small mountains for you guys but still pose a challenge!
Devils path is no joke
A presi traverse would be cool but I feel like they'd crush it no problem. A single day Pemi though...
@@timothyquigley1488 oh yeah now you're talking
They did the presidential once.
Single day pemi "with sprinkles" (+N Twin and Zealand) -- such a great hike. You feel like a wet rag that has had every drop wrung out when you're done.
Where’s Blake?
Where's Christof? (Probably MTB or flying)
We also haven't seen Matt in awhile
Great vid! As with most of your content, I would love to try this one day.
Official Counter: Mediocre Amateur videos since Danny's last puke: 19! Guys...seems you need to push Danny harder.
Awesome video! Your guys' stuff is always so inspiring. Have you considered running the cactus to clouds trail out of Palm Springs, CA?
He also didn't tell you that you had twinkie on your lip 😂
Amateur? Perhaps. Mediocre? Absolutely not! This is some serious stuff and not for the inexperienced. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
"So can we run down now?" Danny, probably.
Great climb bud, I watched Pete from Channel Wideboyz recently do a climb with a 360 cam on a pole trapped to his back. Very interesting footage!
Chase, I hope you don't mind, but I am so gonna steal your "wrestling a weak man all day" saying -- it applies to some of my adventures
Awesome stuff!
I'm bummed youtube got rid of letting us see the number of dislikes. The Like to Dislike ratio for Mediocre vids was always off the charts.
Love scrambling, but climbing is another beast! Looked amazing but super exposed and technical. Well done fella’s!
You two are BRAVE SOULS to climb anything like that. FIVE STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🙋🏼♀️🏔
epic! I'd love to see you guys do more alpine rock climbing, this was one of your best videos.
I have tried a bit of trekking but seeing stuff like this, I can't imagine myself doing this! Immense respect for you man! Really enjoy this content! Subscribed seeing just one video!!
badass guide to have, I would love to have more friends like him
Most underrated channel
One of my favorite things in life, this channel. Thank you Danny! So inspirational.

I can't believe someone else eats banana flips.
That was crazy! Beautiful up there. Thanks for another great video!
Love the content but gates in on the rack? Chase be wildin'
You don't need super tight shoes for trad climbing- especially lower grades. Comfort is more important on all day efforts.
- Love all of your amazing vids. Keep up the great work!
What you called the Golden Staircase was actually “the Friction Pitch”.
Thank you for creating and sharing this video. My son guided me up this route in 2018, but my memory is a blur. This helped bring back some of the experience.
In my case, not only did he do all the route finding and leading, he carried the majority of the weight of our climbing and camping gear!

He should have bought TC pro's like Chase had. Built for multi pitch cl*imbing and very comfy.
Great climb. Great video. Great spirit. Love your videos.
Thank you so much.
Nice, this looks like a beautiful area, definitely wanna get over there sometime
Excellent and Great effort you put to make this video 😍Wonderful 😍
How the heck do you get down?? That's always my question with these large climbs. Are there repel rings? A walk-off? Sketchy down climb??
The humility from the both of you is inspiring. Danny not trying to claim anything while Chase humbly helping his friend. This was amazing to watch.
i don’t think “mediocre amateur” is accurate anymore….maybe “intermediate adept” channel name change soon? great vid 👍
Thank you for documenting this. Excellent work and I, among many other's I'm sure, greatly appreciate the effort!!
that's the wrong beta imho on fitting climbing shoes, that's my personal opinion though, everyone has one.
Is the fifth pitch have an actual climbing grade like 5.6 or 5.7? Or is the whole route classified as scrambling?
so funny about the climbing shoes! that's what I thought when I got my first pair, but the salesperson was definitely right! helps with stability and power on small footholds, but you probably know that now, with this video being 9+ mths old
Thank you for sharing. Pitch 5 would have made Crystof’s mom very nervous. It is great to see Chase leading on.
if you do another 5th class climb, consider a gopro mount for your helmet! Though it looked like you mightve been wearing it on a mount for a couple small parts. us climbers like the pov :)
Appreciate the wider aspect ratio, awesome video as always
Damn, you didn't film the little medallion on the top of the mountain. Probably walked right past it.
Hi there, I sent emails to see if there is an opportunity to set up a partnership on heated products and skiing gear. If interested, please check the emails. Hope you have a wonderful time this coming Christmas. Thanks in advance!
Did you guys rappel down that crazy 2nd firehouse / chain ??
I would legitimately shit my pants if I had to do that. Just watching it gives me vertigo.
There's a saying: The best mountaineers are those having the most fun! So, I guess this is proven here!
hi everyone.. does anyone know a guide who could take me to this peak via this route.
please this is my dream
Guess I should at this route to my to do list! It looks great.
i just got back from yosemite i’m sitting in my living room by the christmas tree and fire place eating pasta and watching a mediocre video life doesn’t get better than this
way to get out there on the rock brother
This looks less steep than that insane Mount Moran solo you guys did. I still get Hersey squirts thinking about that video.
How do you guys like that Salomon pack? I had my eye on that couple years ago
These are true athletes!
This channel should be renamed ‘Covert Badassery’
Where are these people coming up with their pronunciations of mountains .
More climbing please!! Sweet route, good job!
Que makinas!
Could you write in the description what time of year you do each of your adventures? It would be great to get a sense of the conditions at various times! (i know this one was in september, but in many other videos it doesn't say)

wow amazing, very amazing, I am very happy to see the videos that you make are really creative and always present the latest videos, good luck, healthy always long life, lots of sustenance, keep the spirit, keep working
So when will we finally see a reunion of all the MA crew?
You guys didn’t rope up on the golden staircase?
Great route. Did the Golden Staircase solo, much more exposed than I was ready for. That was a good view of the route. I did it in 1995 with weather coming in. Didn't make it back to the parking lot until 3:00am. Thanks for the video.

More power to you, but for me, no thanks zero interest, sticking to the non-rockclimbing routes, lol.
I would love to do this. I had no idea people were even allowed to do this
What is the beta? 5.10? 5.6-5.8? Thanks!
My hands are sweating watching this! 😳😳
Oh wow the Black Face my fav it brings tears to my eyes I get to show my boys your video I only have a picture Thanks again. What did you guys include on your trad rack for this route
Wow 😳 awesome 👍👍. You both made that look too easy.
5:35, "wedge jam and cram . . . " I'm making a t shirt that says that on the front and, "I'm pumped!" on the back . . . love it!
I've lived in wyoming most my life and I've seen the Tetons but havnt hiked them yet thats so incredible!
Well put together video.
To the fellow with the green Dynafit jacket - what model of jacket is that? Looks really cool :)
Way more Mediocre and way more Amateur than ballz, WTF!? That is some intense climbing! Thought I could be a Mediocre Amateur Halfer but that puts me back in a crib with a binkie!
Great-Great Job on that climb to the both of ya's, my word!
Oh man do I not miss all that wild fire smoke
Smooth BAD ASSES.......you made it look easy! Thanks for sharing
how many miles or kilometers last you the la sportiva trail runners??? I buy a pair and im dissapointed with the sole
I’ve never been able to made the la sportivas work for me. So uncomfortable. Tried several models…
do you recommend going with a guided service or diy?
you guys should do wild cat ridge!! it connects the south summit of mount olympus on the west to mount raymond on the east. heard its very technical and will require a good 12 hours since its all scrambling and ridge climbing for the most part
This is my favorite video of yours so far. I have climbed the grand and your depiction of a first time grand climber is perfect. Keep it up!
my hands and feet are sweating just watching this.... eeeeekkk that's a steep drop!!!
