When I first heard that Xzibit was doing a collaboration with Within Temptation I squealed.
I discovered both artists around the same time. While I left the hip hop scene behind I still love Xzibit. He is such a cool guy. Perfect match. Great song.

    I'm a break these chains
    Ran thru the rain
    Never look back, never quit
    Work thru the pain
This blood in my veins runs cold
When I think it'll never be the same
    But I never lose hope
    This is MY time now!
    No time for tears
    Celebrate
Put it in the air right now!
    Never back down😊😊😊

I love it when I see talented musicians steps out their comfort zones and seeks out creative ways; like getting together with other musical talents totally different elements than theirs, and to create music together. Here you have two groups, different by worlds apart in their music/ genre. However, there's no such thing as the impossible for both of these groups. One thing that all great artists/ musicians all have in common is their passion for creating music. The passions will help further one to become innovative and creative. Sometimes it's so different that maybe it needs others to get used to, but like it or not, but it doesn't get better than two groups here working together for their sake of passion for music to write and collaborate music to share, and amaze their fans. O yea, I love your mention about the energy is another quality both possess to have in commons with. I love music of all kinds, includes rap, and symphonic metal, and one of the reasons is that; both, get my blood pumping, fist pumping, giving it my best in life just a bit faster, harder, and louder... when I am one step from falling behind.

i have the album and "And We Run" is actually one of my favorite songs on Hydra. I really do enjoy the blend of metal and rap that this song brought to the table. I'm not the biggest fan of rap, but I do enjoy some of it, and Xzibit is one of the artists I listen do on the occasion that I'm in the mood. :)

Everyone just remember that rap and metal has been collaborating for over 30 years or more. So it's not really a sell out, it's just really open- minded and creative expression and for the thought of us the fans, there is no necessary reason to hate rap or other genre's of music. The rap and metal collaborated that I thought was pretty good, Anthrax and public enemy- bring the noise, slayer and ice- T - disorder, six feet under and ice- T - one bullet left, and WT and xzibit. So everyone quit your bitching and enjoy for what it is!

I know some of people recoiled at the thought of Within Temptation doing a song rap. I too didn't know how to respond when you guys wrote you consider doing something like that on one of the newletters. But the more I thought of it, the more I realized it would be something cool to listen to. And I wasn't wrong! Now 'And We Run' is one of my two favorite tracks on Hydra - the other one being "Let Us Burn" :)

Oké.. I just gotta ask: Why the Hell did you bother to subtitle Sharon and Robert and not Xzibit? Personally I think they were understandable well enough to just leave those subtitles away. (I know I'm 'whining' about something pretty un-important, but it just really makes me wonder.)
Surely do like the song by the way. (Just like I really enjoy the rest of the c.d.) AGAIN nice work from Within Temptation! :-P

At first I was a little sceptical of this track...I listen to hip hop and everything, but combining it with within temptation's style seemed like a very tight line to walk. After a few listens though, I can't deny its awesomeness...I think much of that lies in an absolutely excellent choice of rapper... it could have gone so badly wrong, but Xzibit did a great job! May have to check out some of his stuff...

Aside from the corny "pimp my ride" xzibit is a pretty damn good lyricist, also a decent actor, in his roles its not him continually trying to play himself and portray a "Gangsta" image, his last record napalm is actually really good, and the two free mixtapes hes put out with b-real from cypress hill are more aggressive and ballsy then alot of the metal that is played on the radio these days, and is also light years ahead of the garbage that is considered modern day "hip hop". For people who arent enlightened they hear this trash like lil wayne and nicki minaj and think thats all that hip hop has to offer, which is a damn shame

xzibit was mainstream in early 2000s. but from 2006 he has virtually no sales for his albums, so i would not bet money that most people still remember him. so "going mainstream" with a help from xzibit is unlikely.

    • @EXISTENTIALization
      @EXISTENTIALization 10 лет назад

***** I don't mean mainstream through the usage of Xzibit per say. I was more implying that they would become like a mainstream hybrid of rock and rap not unlike Lincoln Park Limp Bisket and the likes. Not saying that their bad its just I like Within Temptation's vibe and was afraid they may ditch it. I hope this makes sense. Hearing bits and pieces of the song though I no longer worry.

This worked very well, but metal is a genre of it's own, and not much can match it. It's the highest of the highest. The "Nu-metal" genre and bands like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park etc. (minus some Rage Against the Machine) does NOT work very well. It's cumbersome, irritating, and takes very little thinking/writing to make it a reality. To me that is NOT metal, and shouldn't be a sub-genre.
However, old-school rap like EPMD, NWA, Run DMC, Big Daddy Kane, The D.O.C are great on their own, but that is also gone due to the dollar taking precedence over the sound.
The shit nowadays is an embarrassment.
