  • This is a quick discussion on strops, stropping media, emulsions and compounds. And the loading of compounds. I will film
A stroping video and even make a strop on film at a later date.

I`ve really only recently started caring more about my strops. For the longest time, I used flesh side cow hide with Dialux Stropping Compound (I think that´s Aluminium Oxide based). But especially now with Diamond Emulsions and Diamond pastes, I feel like the flesh side cow hide just doesn´t work so well. I`ll have to get my hands on some basswood, I feel like that would work well for what I look for. Thanks for the video, always great to ahve another voice in the community :)

Thank you! Flesh side can work with emulsions. Try sanding it to about 6-800 grit to tighten the nap. You may enjoy that feel. Basswood is amazing. Paint stir sticks work well also once sanded

@@learningsharp1836 If you need ideas for videos, I would be really interested in your take on burr removal (if you even do that, I spot a TSPROF Blitz, you might not even have burrs :D)

I touched on that in the most recent video. I can do a vid on that though! Thanks!

I keep my strops in ziplocks. Also, if stropping multiple with multiple compounds, wipe the blade before you switch to a different compound to avoid cross contamination. When loading my strops, I will spray them down with isopropyl alcohol then heat the strop with a heat gun before I apply compound. The alcohol and heat individually open the pours of the leather.

Nice tips Jesse! Zip locks are a great idea. I used to do it but just don’t bother anymore. And excellent point if using multiple microns the blade should be cleaned. Thanks!
