How to make a leather strop

  • This is a quick tutorial on the supplies needed and how to assemble a leather sharpening strop.
    12”x12” 8/9 ounce thick veg tan cow hide
    Weld wood contact cement
    2.5” wide pine board
    Utility knife
    These supplies will help make a strop that will last a very long time and the supply’s can be purchased for $20 or so and make up to 6 strops this size

    I can’t tell you how many of these I have made. Super easy. I have about 15 strops that I personally own. I’ve done wood burning, polyurethane, stain, all kinda stuff to em. Great video bud

      Nice!!! Nothing like making your own tools! I’ve done that stuff for other folks. Some of them turn out gorgeous!

    NOTES FROM VIDEO ON STROP:
    EB User: Springfield Leather Co on "FLEA-BAY" ...
    Select: 8/9 oz leather in size 24" x 12" (no 12 x 12 option rn)
    Sugg.: Make a lanyard with the strip from the edge beveling tool.

    I used German Oak for my personal strops, cause I feel like I get more reliable results when having a hard backing to my leather. Actually wanted to get acrylic glass but can´t find a store that cuts it to the size I need. But your strops definitly look nicer than mine, I don`t have a tool to bevel the wood :/

      Doesn’t matter how they look. I’m function over appearance. Most of mine are nothing fancy that I keep for myself
