Nice tribute! In my honest opinion on Linkin Park's legacy, they arguably made a huge impact for the millennials like myself than any other band. It's just like what the Beatles did to the baby boomers. Chester's death made me realized how people felt about John Lennon and Kurt Cobain when both of them died years apart. All three of the deceased rock icons I've mentioned are now considered as the most defining losses for each generation. John obviously had the boomers, Kurt had the Gen Xers (including himself), and Chester had us. This is something music journalists would sadly talk about in the next few years or so.
I know exactly what you mean. LP have been my favourite band since I discovered Somewhere I Belong when I was 19. During that time, many singers have passed away and I never really felt any true sadness, but when Chester died I was at work and had to hide from my colleagues for almost an hour trying to hide my tears. I still can't process how I'm never going to ever see him perform live or ever hear his voice sing lyrics that speak to my very soul. I have never felt this way about someone I never met and I don't think there will ever be anyone else who could make me feel how he did through his songs.

This makes their music a have more in common with pop than rock. Many people who are fans of other post-grunge bands, or any rock, alternative, or metal band hate Nickleback for being more of a corporate identity instead of doing a more unique style. Another reason is because the singer, Chad, will often disrespect other bands for various reasons. I do like how they make their music appeal to a wider audience because it helps people get into (hard) rock. It's a very complicated reason, but they don't deserve the hate they get. But in the end, music is subjective. You can like whatever you want to like.
