Looking at antivirals currently on the market, like valganciclovir, it's usually in the upper price tiers of insurance formularies, if it's in there at all. The same is true for HIV antivirals. Plus, doctors are very strict about giving out prescriptions for these drugs, saving them only for the very sick and vulnerable population. This is interesting science, but I don't think it would be something available to the general population.

@steve gale how is @euphytose being childish? They actually backed up their comment with a scientifically legitimate article.
You're a SciShow fan, I'm assuming, so you'd think you'd be be able to keep an open mind, especially when confronted with evidence, even if it's to the contrary of your belief.
In any debate, you lose credibility and respect when you bring the insults. Nobody wants to listen to someone who talks down to them, regardless of whether they're right or wrong.

We'd be living in exciting times if the cure had actually been released and was being used, as it is, it's just endless stories of 'possible breakthrough maybe coming at some point in the future, if all goes impossibly well'.

Some of these are needed for life to work correctly.
Making something that can kill them might end life as we know it.

Have they considered (or actually tried) studying people who don't get sick? Surely I can't be the only one although when I was in grade school it sure felt like it. Every year half the class would be out sick and then they would come back. However the other half would then be out sick and I... well I was there the whole time. I even asked sick friends to cough on me but never would get sick. I had to fake it just to feel normal. I am in my 40's now and still the same. I never have had a flu vaccine and never had the flu either. I am abnormal but I guess I kind of like it. :P - Heidi

    I have a cold and it's annoying.
However I do like the option of taking a sick day.... Maybe that's why there's lack of funding....ppl need their sick days!
