Good work Vic. To my ears the Koaloha sounded much deeper, richer and clearer. That said, if your ukulele budget says Opio you will not be disappointed.

The Koa definitely sounded warmer as whole and the high notes were more full and articulate then Acacia. Both are great.

The Koaloha sounds a little better, but I'd still choose the Opio over most other brands.

Thanks for the comparison, I do hear a slight difference, the koa seems to have slightly 'sharper' 'edge' tone to it, my ears felt, (didn't hear), the difference.

This exactly the comparison I was hoping to find. After playing an acquaintance's koa Koaloha long neck a few years ago, I've been looking for a second hand one. I was hoping the acacia import might be an affordable alternative. It's a really nice ukulele but to my ears, it sounds like it's holding back. Thank you for posting!

    Hey Vic,
great comparison! Do you think there's any difference in a) playability b) weight and c) how snappy/barky the instruments sound? The playability, lightness and sound of the KSM02 is a real reason for me to buy it so would be interested if the OPIO is just as great there.
