Fun detail: sometimes in 3D rigging we have switches on feet and hands called IK/FK. When you see hands being mysteriously posed in a way that looks like they are locked to something unseen, and you watch them slowly tween into an animation where the hands look like they were being pulled towards this unseen anchor, that is the IK tools doing their job. Normally IK rigs are designed so that they can act as anchors to plant limbs to avoid foot/hand sliding. When they are set to FK the hands and feet would act more traditionally like a pose-able doll instead of a puppet on taunt strings.
4:37 The character is keeping the mask on at all times and the developers had fun with the hypothetical scenario of why, and actually added the face just to have a laugh knowing it's there but no one can see it. I love this so much.
What a nostalgic romp, not just because of the collection of Zelda games but because of the whole 7 year legacy of Boundary Break that's still ongoing. The Wind Waker episode still is my favorite as the first one I saw. Man, how time flies.
When it showed Phantom Ganon getting squashed at the end, it reminded me that one of the Action Replay codes available is "Paper Link" which does the same thing to him. I always wondered how and why they made that code, so maybe it just applies that Phantom Ganon effect to Link.
Every model in the game's engine has what's called a transformation matrix (this is true of almost all 3D games in general). The foreshortening effect is just changing some of the coefficients in that matrix, so it would work on any model in the game just the same.
Those untextured eyes might just be there for the sake of making the normal NPC coding work properly. Some parts of the animation code might reference eyes and if it doesn't have anything to manipulate then who knows what might've broken? Having something for the eye code to point at as a placebo probably just keeps things working smoothly.
the more likely cause is just that the 3D modelling was done in advance (with eyes) but later they didnt like the look of the eyes being slightly visible from some angles so they just pulled back the eyes a bit so they no longer protrude through the skin anymore ;)
Dude shut up. I'm sure he doesn't want to hear this shit just let it be. Comments like this are so fucking useless especially if he was going through it
The Twilight Princess episode is still one of my favorite Boundary Break videos. For almost the entire video I was seeing things I wasn't expecting and I can't believe it's been 7 years since the original Twilight Princess video came out.
Question: Did they use the same water source stretching in TotK as they did in BotW? You can kinda tell from the map of the Underdark that the areas beneath the ground are sectioned off from each other by above-ground waters and lakes, so I was wondering if they did so because of the water stretch effect.
I believe this is addressed in the TotK episode, which you can still catch in full. If I'm remembering correctly, it's still entirely there but modified for the caves, meanwhile the depths more like a separate map despite the coordinates.
Over the course of seven(!) years, of course there are some parts I'd forgotten 😅. It's always great to "pull the curtain back" and see how they achieved certain effects etc with trickery you can't see as a player.
Nice to see that the creepiest Zelda game, Twilight Princess, has the most cursed stuff in the cutscenes. The tiny Midna head is gonna keep me up at night now.
Yo! Shesez! I was in the Twitch chat when you were getting footage for this. I told you then that I binge BB while programming all the time. Well here we are and I'm doing the same thing haha Episode turned out great dude! Keep em comin'!
The water in BotW is likely always there because it's less expensive to just check the player's height against a value in a "water height" texture. The alternative is having complicated cages of water and needing to accurately check if the player is inside of them at all times.
I find this series so interesting, I’d appreciate it if you could do a boundary break video on mafia 3. I used to play the game a lot and I’ve always wondered what Sinclair parish (DLC location) was like before you unlocked it by purchasing the DLC and what was beyond the maps limits
I like to think the single sheet underground Hyrule in BotW is Hyrules ground water, and the fact there's so much of it is why Hyrule is so prosperous.
This video's editing is quite...weird. • Audio in some places tend to be worse at times • Some transitions it sounds like you start talking then audio gets cut over with another audio of you talking instead • And it appears that some of the video transitions are out of order Some timestamps 7:12 - audio is funky 18:43 - weird audio skip 20:07 - video outro? but not actually lol There are more small weird things like this throughout the whole video, I hope everything is okay! Regardless of the weird edits I love all the boundary breaks for this episode. Keep up the amazing work 🧡
I would love to see a Boundry Break about Wolfenstein The Old Blood or the New Order. I know its not really the type of game genre you like to explore on this channel, i would still love to see it.
I have 2 boundry break game suggestions. The first one is probably an obscure game to most but one of my favorites. "Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime." It was on the DS. there were 3 games released in this franchise, but only 2 hit North American. I'm curious if there's anything hiding out of bounds. The second suggestion is Half-Life: Alyx. I've had a quest for a while but just recently got the quest 3, the lonk cable to play PC VR games, and Half-Lyfe: Alyx. The gane looks so good.
Back in the day games where like: we only have that much resources to work with, lets make the best out of it. Games today: wait adjusting our game to platforms? Why should we do that
5:30, that's dirt easy, just render the objects normally while adding the rotation of characters to the top of the objects and gradually reduce the value you add towards 0 as you go down the vertices of the object.
been saying for years that Shesez should do some baseline 3D modelling course, he'd understand so much more what and why the makers did certain things in these games
@@AccAkut1987 Don't even need to do that, I certainly haven't, a few vids on YT should be enough. I'm just used to thinking about 2d/3d math so it wasn't a huge leap for me to figure out the method despite having never done it before
Wouldn't that cause the models (such as these statues) to bend slightly backwards? These are skewed in a way that keeps the top parallel with the ground, with no actual rotation involved. In Blender, this can be accomplished with the Shear tool.
hmm...i wonder if there are any similar secrets in LttP, like that one person in Kakariko that runs away from you (you need the Pegasus Boots to catch up and talk to them)...
I dub thee..twilight princess ganon as...ganonderp! 😂 Edit: not a boundary break or anything, just a cool fact: in majoras mask..if you check on the skull kid with the old dudes telescope you get some really cool things.. Day one: normal, butt shake then he leaves Day 2: same as day 1s animations Day three: stares at you all creepy like, looks at the moon then looks at you creepily again 6 hrs on day 3: hes seen pulling the moon down Except for the 6hrs remain one..they all give you a moons tear

For those who don't know, IK stands for "inverse kinematics" , and FK stands for "forward kinematics".
@@noah-xt9tx I knew IK, but thanks for explaining FK.

" Link... you must find me!.."
just seems like a game of hide and seek this way XD
About Tauro: They couldn't simply delete the eyes. All NPC's in the game are based on the Mii data format so the eyes had to go somewhere.
I love that IK hand with the Zelda model with the second clip
on the topic of OOT 3D, there's an incredible Garry's Mod map, that models the rest of the sides, and adds some cool Easter eggs.
Magnificent.
Splendid, even
Awesome video as always, thanks for being my favorite camera since years
Zelda is my favourite hero, him and that Metroid dude.. 😎
This was really fun. I'd watch best of Boundary Break annual recaps, since only some of the games interest me enough for a whole episode.
That ToTK zoom out is breath taking. Hyrule feels so huge but it really isn't.
they say a ton of content was cut from Wind Waker last minute so it makes sense there's a lot of unused areas and details
That Wind Waker Hyrule map makes me want a game that happens JUST before it gets flooded...

Original zelda game for n64 also has crawl-ways hidden in castle water areas, in similar place where dummied out one was in your video.
These were all such great videos and I think you picked great highlights for the Comp. Thanks for another great upload

I think I might need an anti-laugh for when I play Twilight Princess again
