Also, as the wheel moves further out, the more the front wheels move like a radio flyer wagon. They no longer pivot around the hublike what was demonstrated in the video, but they swing in an arc forward and back as you turn the wheel.
@shawn Thanks for this video. It makes girls like me with a truck understand exactly what I wanna do to it & why I choose what size tire because I had no idea. I appreciate your time and help!
See Shawn, it's videos like this is why you're killing it in your metrics and your competitors hate you lol. What a great way to show how everything changes with bigger and beefier setups. Thanks guys!
Cody Martin Moving the wheel out with a negative offset with even more weight is drastically ramps up the force applied to the bearings and ball joint in particular. Think of it like a lever. If you choke up on the lever closer to the pivot point you’ll need to exert more force to move it, whereas if you move out further on the lever handle it is much easier to move. Basically if you’re going to go with a large wheel and negative offset, don’t go as cheap as you can to lift it. While my truck is still stock for now, I’ve thrown out any possibility of basic leveling spacer with independent front suspension because they don’t correct ball joint and cv angles. Negative offset wheels can make it even worse. I’ll end up with a proper lift when it’s time because a good lift will supply the necessary components to lessen these issues. Not much fix for the hub bearings themselves though.
Is there any negative offset that's okay and won't threaten damage? I have a dmax 2019 and trying to be well informed before changing tyres and wheels etc
Part two of this series would be great! I would recommend you take the same wheel in a couple sizes, and a couple tire combos, and show them side by side so people can see the difference from the side, from the front, and from the top-down view. Even better if you line the hubs up along a line so we can see the offset. It would be really helpful to visualize... take your 3 most popular wheel sizes (e.g., 18 x 9 +1, 20x10 - 24, and 20x12 - 44)... and do the side-by-side in 33/35/37 of some popular tire.
Great simple explanation! I’m actually in the middle of getting a more aggressive tire for my truck and debating doing a lift or not. I don’t think I want a crazy negative offset cause I’m sure that will wear on hub assembly.
I wanted 33's for my nitro, but after watching some of your past videos, I quickly learned they wouldn't fit lol. I'm very thankful that I didn't wast my money. Kudos to custom offsets!
So glad you showed the example of the stock wheel with mud tires. Thats what im going to run on my truck but wanted to figure out how it was going to rub. Used the gallery to find out what would fit and so on. Thanks excellent video
Excellent video, you actually explain a lot of little details that most of the time are ignore. Thank you. I have an old mitsubishi Montero Sport I would love to get some ideas of what to do with it.
You gotta remember too that with a negative offset you are no longer turning the wheel on its center axis. this makes the wheel swing out further as you turn which pushes it deeper into bumpers at full lock.
Great info bro, Love the football throw you added! Speaking from experience with adding larger tires, and as you already know, the biggest surprise people have by adding larger tires is they don't realize how its going to effect their fuel mileage!! Most don't care but after time that cost adds up quickly. Especially when they only have a 1/2 ton, power to the ground quickly decreases too.
Thanks for the video...never understood until today about why going backwards my tire rubs. Fortunately, I dont have to aggressive of a tread so it rubs vs rips
Thank you guys for all of your videos! You guys are so informative and I’ve been learning a lot from you all on this channel. Keep it up and thanks again!! ✌️
phenomenal fitment tutorial! thanks gents! i def appreciate your channel! And the way you guys use modern tech to teach fitment is revolutionary! once i figure out what i like, i'll be placing an order soon.
they do.. that's why chevy is getting narrower fenders to prevent ppl from putting bigger wheels on.. now you have to lift the truck even higher to get the clearance u need.. my 00 as a wide but short fender but as u look at the newer years the fenders get narrow and tall
Y’all should do a video on actual tread width vs tire width A 265 is 10.4 wide but the tread is only 7 to 9 depending on the tire so maybe y’all could do a video telling us what tires will have the widest tread width vs tire width
I spents weeks researching wheels and tires for my 2022 ram rebel. Finally decided on 20x10 -18 offset with 305/55r20 tires and guess what? Ive seen other trucks with this same setup and on your website and they alll claimed there was no rubbing or scrubbing. But mine do. Even though they are the same trucks and size wheels and tires.
2015 f350 100% stock suspension (factory "plow package"...stiffer front springs). went from factory 275/70/18 33" tall 10.8" wide tires to 285/75/18 again on factory rims. 35" tall 11.2" wide. no issues including when i hang my 1000 lb plow off the front. plenty of clearance in every direction. i believe 100% i could fit 12 5's with the factory offset, maybe 13 5's.
Awesome content as usual !! SO helpful! Will you guys ever do a Hot n New or Match-Up's on the XF offroad lineup? I just ordered a set of XF-211 in 22x10 with AMP attack MT 33's. I'm so anxious to see them all fitted up....There's not much images on the web of them.
I would also like to see that exact setup I really want to order those wheels but Don't see many pics of those wheels on the web so it's keeping me for ordering.... so please make that video!
I found on my ram the stock wheel is 20x8 with a +19mm offset.... Ended up going with a 20x9 -12mm offset..and with a 6" lift mathmaticlly it will clear with no issues👍
People don't understand the degree of inclination the spindles have will make the tires arc up and down and the camber will change making the tire move around some in the wheel opening. It is way more than just the static ride height position.
John Shull How is that if I have the same leveling kit with 245/75r16 coopers with 16x9 pro comp alloys honeslty talk about suspension problems with 40s on a leveling kit brother
2017 Ram 1500 Big horn 4x4 stock with 35x12.5 17 tires on +18 offset 17x9 inch wheels and i barely rub the inner side, rear of the wheelwell at full lock. Only ever hear rubbing for a split second at that.
I got a 33 mud tire 20rim but wasn't happy with the size looks kinda small..I would recommend a 35 if you are already used to the rubbing then go 35 if you don't like the rub just get a 33 mud..up to you...truck is level to the factory back tires so kinda up there...
I just bought a 2014 Silverado and so now I’m tryin to figure out what I can run and what not on it. When I had my super duty I had it all figured out what I could do with it but idk about these newer Silverado’s
My truck shop guy said with a 7.5 lift I can fit 35's with no rubbing at all with my 2012 Silverado... he wasn't expecting me to get -44 offset wheels now I have to go back for some metal trimming
I just ordered wheels and tires from you guys and I’m not sure if I will need to trim and after this video I just have anxiety about it. 2017 Ford F-150 20x10 -18 295/55R20
What about lock to lock clearance at full suspension compression? I rarely see this addressed. I see a lot of guys with rub marks that thought the did all the right things. Then they rub at full compression, and not even to full lock..
Chad, only way you'd get full suspension compression is pulling into something really really steep or have too much load. most of these guys are doing stuff on the street and want an aggressive look
The math and offsets blew me away as a first timer into a truck. Could you offer me the best configuration for a daily driver(95% pavement) on a 2021 Ford F150 Lariat 5.0 4x4 that has been leveled. I want to run 20" wheels holding Nitto Ridge Grapplers with enough sidewall height to make the best road comfort possible. I'd like to establish a decent configuration before I place my final order for the truck without dealer "recommendations". I'm sure I'll be reordering wheels for the tires after I get the truck. Is it the narrower the wheel the higher the sidewall? I know it's a lot but thanks in advance.
I realize that it depends on the driver and most mud tires don't last long. Just wondering what are some good mud tires that last and do great year around? I have the Trail Diggers and they are bad ass except.. They suck in the winter and.. I'll be lucky to get 25,000 out of this set.
I want to put 33” nitto ridge grapplers on some 20” fuels on my f-150. I was thinking of leveling the front 3” and the back 2”. Think I would have some rubbing with about a 1” offset. On a 2014 f-150?
Check out our gallery! Just type in your vehicle make, model, and year and suspension, then see what others have made fit including rubbing and trimming details! www.customwheeloffset.com/wheel-offset-gallery
I have 305 65r18 BFKO2 running on fuel octanes with a -1 offset on a GMC Sierra 1500 with a 5 inch lift. Thinking about going up to 325 65r18 but not 100% sure if they’ll be no rubbing. What’s your opinion?
So I have a 2016 ram 1500 that has a 6" rough country lift. I've got OEM wheels and 33 by 12 and a 1/2 inch McGregor's. I'm running 40 x 14's on a dodge neon with only minor rubbing
Got a 3 foot spacer on there lol
Rubbing on your left leg I assume
I’m rubbing a black man’s penis inside ur neon. It’s called a soup kitchen boy. - dirty Mike and the gang. Thanks for the Fck shack
Also, as the wheel moves further out, the more the front wheels move like a radio flyer wagon. They no longer pivot around the hublike what was demonstrated in the video, but they swing in an arc forward and back as you turn the wheel.

Just put in 52 hours overtime, I'd buy wheels and tires, but I'm gonna gets me a lift first. I'm coming for ya Shawn!
Can't wait! Keep puttin in those hours man!
See Shawn, it's videos like this is why you're killing it in your metrics and your competitors hate you lol. What a great way to show how everything changes with bigger and beefier setups. Thanks guys!
Billy Plut thank you! You guys keep the questions coming and we will keep finding ways to answer them! Wait... we have haters, that's awesome! - Shawn
Custom Offsets haters gonna hate! Means you're on it!
It's a balance between diameter, width and offset. It's wheel 101.
As a mechanic I love this new fad of running stupid looking offsets because I know I'll be changing front hub assemblies for the foreseeable future.
Mike Frost can you actually explain what happens? I don’t know and I’m curious.
Cody Martin Moving the wheel out with a negative offset with even more weight is drastically ramps up the force applied to the bearings and ball joint in particular. Think of it like a lever. Not if you wind up under wheel week w/ spikes. C,R.I.P First
Is there any negative offset that's okay and won't threaten damage? I have a dmax 2019 and trying to be well informed before changing tyres and wheels etc
Except 95 percent of guys would change their own lol very simple to do hahaha

Stellar idea Josh! Will forward to media team!
It would be cool if they would offer removable wheel well inserts so you could change dimensions without doing major body work.
Great simple explanation! I’m actually in the middle of getting a more aggressive tire for my truck and debating doing a lift or not. I don’t think I want a crazy negative offset cause I’m sure that will wear on hub assembly.
Those J's you got on are fire..

Nitro lifted tho bro.. 🤔
You wasted your money on a Nitro, so it’s a fail either way.

I wish the truck manufacturers took into account that a lot of truck owners want bigger tires.
Ford did
they do.. that's why chevy is getting narrower fenders to prevent ppl from putting bigger wheels on.. now you have to lift the truck even higher to get the clearance u need.. my 00 as a wide but short fender but as u look at the newer years the fenders get narrow and tall

Finally a good video on wheel fitment thanks !
No problem 👍

2015 f350 100% stock suspension (factory "plow package"...stiffer front springs). went from factory 275/70/18 33" tall 10.8" wide tires to 285/75/18 again on factory rims. 35" tall 11.2" wide. no issues including when i hang my 1000 lb plow off the front. plenty of clearance in every direction. i believe 100% i could fit 12 5's with the factory offset, maybe 13 5's.
i went on numerous internet forums and most said 35 12.5s would fit stock suspension. they were right.
I appreciate the detail on this man.
I just put a tire on and turn the wheel see if it rubs then flex it and turn wheels to see if it rubs.
This was hilarious and informative. Love what custom offsets is all about
Great visual, thank you!
Very good explanation
I have 1500 ram 4x4 put on 35s 12.50 20s with a 2 inch lift front no rubbing at all
Great clarification! Thanks bro!
I have a 4inch 20x9 +18 and I don't rub at all with 33inch tiers

XxTTexas OutlawwxX very carefully

Great video. Also love the QB skills Shawn!
If your tires rub the body, your lift kit isnt big enough. Just my opinion.

jifffy is that an Uzi song
2017 ram 2500 ordered 33-12.50s on 20x10s with -25 offset from them with no lift on the truck and have no problem with rubbing
Because it's a 2500, it's already tall enough to fit that from the factory
Ploppinbass6 no duh 😂🤦🏽♂️ I've seen a ton of dodge 1500s with 20x12's on 33s and no lift no trimming
Wasn't worried about the height of the tire it was the width of the tire when turning with no level kit on very uneven ground
On a 2500 you should be able to clear 35s with no problems at stock specs
Finally got his feet out of those AirMax and got some 11's on..
