Just wanted to say thanks, I was going to call a handyman and then watched this and did it myself. It took me longer to find the thing in Lowes than it did for me to do the job.
“The thing”.
Awesome straight to the point video- had a broken pronge on a hospital bed and a bew power cord to $90, now fixed for less than $4. Thank you very much!
I ordered a replacement fan, found this video, canceled the order, and ordered a replacement plug instead. This makes so much sense. Thank you!
I owe you a 100$ man thanks!! The 20$ i spent on the plug and wire strippers is coming out of my dogs paycheck because she is the one that chewed the cord😂😂
Same here!!!! I was alike ‼️😢ohhhh nooo then found this video🎯👏
Thank you !! I am single and dont have anyone to help me with things like this!!!! I did it!!! Because of you!
Hey, you just saved my $100+ on a new vacuum. I have a practically new one and one of the outlet tines broke off. Perfectly explained. THANK YOU!
What is that replacement piece called ?
It's a Kirby?
@@Jc-jf9rz plug
Thanks for this. I just fixed my extension cord after watching your instructions. I didn’t know which wire was hot and which screw it was supposed to go on. Your video was very helpful.
This was a very helpful video. My iron was not working. Then I noticed that the cord portion, right next to the plug, had frayed. I could even see the exposed wires, if I looked very closely. I got a Leviton 15-amp non-polarized replacement plug online from Home Depot for $2.44. I installed it and my iron now works with no problems. Before I saw the video I was actually planning on throwing the iron away iron which I've had for a long time and really like (it's GE). Anyway, thanks for sharing.
I was about to buy a new vacuum when I found this! You just saved me like $100! Thanks!
Thank you for this video. It saved me hundreds of dollars fixing my $600 vacuum plug that my dog chewed up. Lifesaver!!
haha that's why im here
Lol me tooo
Ok😅
My new rescue Lab pup chewed my fan plug , and it’s very hot here 🥵
Same
For safety. You should have a little more of a hook onto the screw. Makes it much less likely of it ever coming undone, or shorting
You know you can always make a video of doing it your way
Matter fact all of you kan make your own videos he did it just fine it not a heavy duty commercial use cord. its just a simple power supply its fine. Although i already knew this information i learned that i could purchase the 3 prong plug that a client needs at a hardware store so i appreciate your video man thanks
@@Kayeoss Jesus. Someone makes an innocuous safety tip and you jump all over them. What are you, this guy's mom?
@@Kayeoss Same for you skipper. It was a good suggestion. Can't wait for yours!
@@Kayeoss Where's yours?
very easy to follow instruction, speaks clearly, like that you only need a few tools. good video
This is awesome! Thanks so much for making what I thought was a disaster a very simple fix!
Same here ...and I didn't even do this problem It was a crazy now (ex)- girlfriend
Great video! Simple . I never have done this before. Thank you
Thank you soo much! We had an industrial metal fan with a plug that was fire hot 🔥. I bought the part from the hardware store & replaced the plug. This saved us 300.00 for a new one & this one is nice & cool to the touch!
Fantastic video! Yesterday I forgot to unplug my block heater before backing out of my garage. The ground pin sheared off as the cord ripped away. Now I'm going to try and fix this!
Ordered through Amazon...delivered today. Wish me luck....I have a huge fear of doing electrical work and wiring.
This was extremely helpful. Made our defunct vacuum work like a charm!
Thanks a lot bro, without this video I would never do it and probably lose lots of money!
Thanks!!! I almost went out and replaced an entire deep freezer after accidentally ripping the plug out of the wall, which broke a prong. Wish I had found this video years ago. I’ve thrown away multiple electronics because the cord or plug got severed.
Super helpful, great explanation, my dog lights to eat unplugged cords so this will help me fix my $100 vacuum
I cut the power cord on the reciprocating saw. This was a quick and easy fix. Thank you!
Excellent video. There's no hemming and hawing around here. The speaker knows what he's doing and shows how to do it very clearly. A model performance. I'm on the way to the hardware store now...
I tried it on my Toshiba TV cable and it worked. Thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you!!! You helped me fix my ninja blender!! It was a wedding gift that was only used a few times before our dogs got to it! I appreciate this video!
I knew I could find a video that would show me how to and what I need to replace a broken vacuum plug. All the supplies are arriving tomorrow!
What happens if the wires are the exact same color? Black casing. Copper wires and that's it. No way to tell which is hot ground or neutral.
This helped a ton, thank you!
Great video,
Thank you for showing us all,how to repair and replace this. Take care.
perfect video, my dog chewed my vacuum cord up thought i was gonna have to buy a new vaccume. Followed this step by step. Vaccume is back working!!!
Wait are you sure you aren’t me? Lol. I found my new vacuum this morning with the cord chewed through. I was so upset! After watching this I got the needed parts and now I have two working vacuume cleaners! Thank you so much.
Super Useful video my dude. Respect!
Very helpful video! Save me from buying a new cord! Thanks very much!
Thank you! Brilliant video.
Great video. Very informative. Very clear and simple instructions from you..
I would definitely go and get it one of these plugs .
Where do I find the link for this plug on your video?
Thanks in advance for any help there .☘️👍
Thank you so much for this video I fixed my carpet cleaner. Appreciate it man!
What a great video, thank you!
Huge. My chihuahua just chewed threw my iron plug. Ty!😅
It's not a jack, it's a plug... and it's not an outlet either. The outlet is the receptacle in the wall. Also, strange that the original plug had a ground pin but no ground wire. Never seen that before...
He also says there are three plugs inside the plug…and A/C current plugs don’t have a “positive” wire, it’s hot and neutral. Listening to this made me crazy, even with my limited knowledge of electrical components.
Is there a way to find which is neutral and which is load if the copper wiring doesn’t have color coded insulation. I do have a ground wire
I had trouble telling which screw was which so I finally took a guess. I guess I got it right!
@@gracenote1837 Actually, I realized one side was charred and the other had an “N” and was not. So N is neutral and the charred side was the load
@bruceleeroy8302 anything unlabelled should be thrown out, old code.
Thank you soooo much! I repaired it perfectly! This helped totally!
Hi! What if your wire doesn’t have clear negative/postive wires. Mine are both copper neither have white or black on them
This is cool! Bought an guitar amp with a cut wire. Gonna try this out
Thanks for the video. You made that look really easy.
Thank you so much. Your video same me 269 dollars. Got my appliances working.
Nice video! Just saved my smoker!
Great job!
I was able to fix my son's tv, thank you 😊
How do you find out which is the power wire? The cable I need to fix just has black jackets on both wires inside
👍Awesome thank you , hopefully I can safe my electric fireplace , but I'll need a 3 prong & thanks for saying the price & hope I can find one at the hardware store
So grateful for your explanation 😅
Thank you! I need to fix my air compressor. The ground pin came out and got stuck in the outlet.
About to convert all of my power tool cords into budget festool plug-its. ;)
Such a great video, and very helpful!
What is the name of the cable? My dog chewed all the way from where the cord starts maybe 1 inch left from my new indoor grill. Now I gotta buy the cable..😮
Do you have a video for splicing when the cord is cut right near the appliance (maybe 2 or 3 inches?) thanks
There are videos available. One option is to use both a plug and a Jack. The only shortcoming is it coming unplugged easily.
Thanks!!!
Thank you so much for posting this video.
YOU ROCKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely saving my a** with this and i dont own the washer ....i was just allowed to be in a family friends home ...crazy you try to let other people have a good place for a short time then when you tell them to leave off someone elses property and explain this isnt yours ...they decide to put people like us in a position like this ...i thought i was destroyed from my will after seeing a plug like this ya'll (from texas here lol) this girl was so pissed she woke up from her sleep or played like it ....smoked a cigarette (in a rehabbed home looks like a modernist type mansion design) in the bathroom, ripped my original army jacket shirt arm off, dropped fruit on the floor purposely (the floors are wood and very light tan sandish), left dishes she cooked with dirty, and cut the plug to the washer ..... everything else wasn't so bad when i woke up this morning i found myself in this position.....
Learn from my experience never deal with someone who thinks that their mental health is an excuse...fk that....to some degree ...but even in jail after awhile sometimes they get to be too much ....and for this girl in particular shes aware of what she is doing ....she repeats everything back in crystal clear memory... literally everything...so i call bs ...but yeah peeps glad to be part of the broken plug family lol 😏😂🤣🤣 and stay away from crazy girls !!! 🤣🤣🤣
Who's here because their dog chewed on the cord
Exactly
Super helpful, thank you!
Tie a knot or some other measure to prevent pulling the wires off from the plug.
i'll keep that in mind.
Is this Leviton model compatible with a 11.5 amp plug? (120 Volt Vitamix grounding prong broke off) I’m a novice but handy and your video is easy to follow. From my Amazon search, looks like this will work as this model came up as well as another Leviton 125 v. but I want to be safe. Thank you!
My vacuume died. I pulled out all the scews to save them and then cut the electrical cord off. *Is there a way to repurpose the electrical cord?* One side has the plug-in head in tact and the other end is where I cut the cord. (I threw the body parts of the vacuume away).
Great video! Thanks for fixing my shop vac! 😁
Would this work for a microwave power cord that has a burnt prong?
Would this work for a refrigerator power cord?
Thank you for this brother 👍🙏
How do I do this if all three wires inside the cord are the same? They are all plastic coated and I see no difference. Please help. Thank you!
Inside the wore i have a black wore and a red wire. Also the plug i got from home depot has both the screws golden color and not brass and silver. What to do in that case 🤔
Thank you 😊
Thanks for the video!
Thank you
What does it mean it the plug starts to feel a lil hot after plugging it up. *(I did everything exactly the same in the video)
My sofa power cord blew up, it’s got about a 2 inch burn on it. What should I do
Thank you..
Awesome video thank u man
Thanks
This seems so helpful but the wires I have inside aren’t those colors, they’re wrapped blue, white(with a green line?) and a brownish red one :(
Merci
On the flat 6awg the inside three cords are not colored black & white only the ground cord is. So how do I know which is hot
Where can I get the part I didn’t see it in home depot
Where can I buy this?? Is there a online?
could soldering fix this?
Creating a wire with an open ground can be a hazard if an unknowing person tries to use that cord with the wrong appliance.
Awesome so easyb
Can i do this same thing to a window AC unit plug that has shorted. ?
It’s the same concept, yes.
What if the wires themselves don't have a white and black coating, they're both just black with no identification of which one is positive and neutral? I came across this problem the other day I didn't have any way to tell them apart other than to plug them into a new outlet piece kind of like this and then hope to God I didn't ruin anything LOL Digimon for a split second and then turned off I just immediately unplugged everything and as soon as I did it backwards
Unfortunately I need to replace the whole cord. My fan was left in my shed and the previous owner has about two feet covered in electrical tape. The fan works plus I like the height. Since it’s going into my bedroom, I don’t want to take any chances of a fire while I’m sleeping. I’ve taken most of it apart to clean it but still need to know how to replace the cord. Any help from anyone would be appreciated.
What splicing tool is that
Had mine all tied in nice and still caught fire.
Tks ❤❤
any reasons I wouldn't be able to take a power strip from the USA and take it to India, cut off the plug and replace it with an Indian plug to have a usable power strip while traveling there?
Would this part work with a 25000 btu air conditioner?
Wire from China has no Black or White wire designation; it's separated wire, so no way to know which is neutral. What do I do?
Thanks but what if the cut is in the middle of the cord?
Hello, can i replace the plug with another one, I am in South Africa and we don't use that kind here please thank you
plugs are always replaceable go to any electrical or electronics shop in your local market area and ask them for 2-pin or 3-pin plug
Thank you! Thought I'd have to buy a new printer after my puppy chewed up the cord end but this worked perfectly!
Also, I noticed several other people are fixing cords because of their dogs!😆
@@kieraabrienne8770 My mom had a cat that chewed wires, including the TV electrical cord. Fortunately, for him, never made his way all the way through that one.
extension cord now shows as grounded... when in fact it is not?
Is it safe to use a 3 prong replacement plug with a 2 wire as you have shown in this video? I'm trying to replace my two prong cord, but I only have access to a 3 prong replacement. Thanks 👍
It is perfectly safe, although it is a bit misleading where a user could think "This has ground" when it in fact does not.
No, it would give the user the wrong idea on whether it was properly grounded. Pay the extra dollar and do it right.
