Maybe interesting, or a bit boring... I’m not sure really... These CLK55’s are real bargains now in the UK! If you can get one from before 2005 then the road tax is better too 😁
Classic timeless looks and styling, doesn’t look dated, will always look on point just like the M Sport BMW E46’s in both coupe and cabriolet and those naturally aspirated engines that have been properly looked after still drive as beautifully today as when they left the factory
just purchased CLK55 AMG in Australia, 2003, coupe, metallic silver, at 130,000 km. Seems like one of the more reliable Mercs of the era......I hope so ! Plus a fantastic naturally aspirated V8 !
They really are bulletproof engines imo. Plus the gearbox isn’t even breaking a sweat on the W209 55... I think they used the same transmission as the SL55 which was supercharged with ~500bhp 👍 Just keep up the normal service items
Chris papa no mods. Unfortunately transmission needed a rebuild. Factor of age they said still loving it. Insanely powerful. Pulls up hill like a rocket. Great touring car.
The Engine sounds so sweet :) shame cars like this will be pushed to the pages of history soon Glad your are enjoying your na v8 !! keep up the great work really enjoy watching your videos thank you so much.
Nice ‘03 man; great shape, and I like your mods. I have a black ‘05 over here in the States, and love it. I’m anxious to try that Sprint Booster, so thanks for the tip! Also thanks for loading the vid!
As soon as I saw the steering wheel,I thought royal did that. I have had 2 wheels done by them, and they are quality and affordable. Nice weekend toy,we use to have a saab 9-3 vert as our weekend toy.
Nice vid I enjoyed this. I bought the CLK280 (3.0ltr) 'Cabriolet Sport AMG '07 as a hobby/holiday car. Looks close to identical to this. It's a really beautiful silky smooth luxurious car and makes weekend and holidays feel like a special thing. I baby it so it always looks showroom. Still turns people's heads with the top down. Future classic? Who knows and I don't care.
I have an 04 clk55amg. I've had it for a year now, and I can't part with it either. I did sell my 2006 Mercedes E350 . It was a good overall car, but nowhere near as fun to drive as the AMG. There's something about the heavy duty sport seats and the rumble of the AMG V8. I did spend a lot of money on it, but mostly just in the beginning, as the previous owner neglected it. Good video, cheers.
Same here, once in good shape they don’t need too much attention. I’ve got too many cars now though, so it’s actually up for sale... saddest car sale I’ve ever listed though.
i have a 07 c230 and recently ive been looking for more power but still in the c class and price range and i ran across the 03 clk55 and just looking its specs and reviews of other people i love the car
The moment you started the car I got goosebumps, beautiful AMG. Will the Range Rover be garaged until the winter or will we still see videos of it. I personally don’t mind, both are breathtaking. Keep up the great work.
Cheers Chris, that’s kind words 👍 No, the FFRR will still be in full use for now - and actually I will be attempting a 2000 mile European road trip in it later this year! 💪😀
It’s called “Sprint Booster”. It’s a small electronic device which plugs in to the accelerator & intercepts/modifies the the throttle signal. You can change how sensitive you want it to be and it basically amplifies the signal giving the effect of ‘sharpening’ the throttle response. The result is that it feels more like a modern car when pressing on the accelerator pedal - it adds nothing to the power, but it changes the feel quite a lot (for the better) in my opinion 👍
The previous owner had it done. It’s not a true ‘Quad’ exhaust really though... as they Tee’d off somewhere after the central resonator. It looked & sounded great though
@@Nut_Job. I thought they may have done something like that, possibly from the left rear muffler. Any issues with loss of power? I’m picking up a clk55 end of the week, keen to put an exhaust on it.
Nice! Let me know if you decide to sell. I've been running a 1999 CLK230 soft top for several years now. Bullet proof reliability, cheap to run, and practical too. Driving a Camaro SS on a recent California road trip convinced me I need to upgrade to a CLK55...
You might be in luck John... I’m leaning towards moving it on within a month or 2 (although it’s hard because I really love it!! 😫), but I’m not rich unfortunately & one needs to go if another is to come...
The previous first owner (MB owners club member) had quad tailpipes installed very early in its life. They also removed the second resonator chamber, which is what changes the sound mostly.
Ho, great video. I'm really interested in one of these but the Mrs says no... with that in mind, is it worth getting one anyway and risking the inevitable battle or do I buy one and just move out? No, but really would you still recommend one?
Really hope you see this ! The little cap thingy under the head light, what is that called ? My dads car has one missing and we cannot order a new one because we don’t know what it is called. Please reply !
It was done professionally before I bought the car. From memory, I think they removed one of the resonance chambers & T’d off the main pipe somewhere around the middle of the car & then split to each side. It looked a tidy job underneath (nice welds etc), but not a ‘true’ quad system really, since it didn’t run back to each header.
@@Nut_Job. I really love it! I bought it for $3,000 with 80,000 miles on it. It is also my first car. If you go to my channel, Hallowed Media, I made a cinematic of my car if you want to see it. Honestly, the only thing I would like to see is if you can make a review video on it if you can.
@@Nut_Job. Ah shame, I love what you did with it, definitely a blueprint others can follow. I hope you follow-up with some videos, enjoyed everything you've posted so far. My CLK search continues...
Can’t remember exactly. It was not a major brand name, but it ran an android operating system. It was a much bigger job than expected though, because I didn’t understand anything about the fibre optic system when I started.... I understood by the end though 😂
Unfortunately I don’t own that car any more. It was a bit of an unexpected ‘pain in the arse’ to upgrade the HU though. This is because I didn’t know it ran an unusual fibre optic audio system on speakers with unusual impedance. I basically removed the HU, all speakers and the amp located in the boot. Then ran new audio cables from the new HU to all the L and R speakers. The sub woofer is located in between the 2 rear seats. I think it’s a 4” speaker - I replaced this & installed a new amp for it in the glove box (although this could be installed in the place where the original amp was). It’s a weekend job for a sunny day, and it’s probably easier if your 55 is a convertible like mine 👍
Actually, no I sold it to free up some cash but then my mate said he wished I’d asked him once more before I sold it 🙄... it was a great car but the truth is I had too many cars & it didn’t get driven enough
It’s a small module that plugs in behind the accelerator pedal & intercepts the signal & modifies it (amplifies it). There’s just 2 plugs which are specifically ordered for your car & it takes about 10-15 mins to install. Most of that time is really just getting to the plug behind the pedal though.

Great review Nut!! You should borrow people's cars and do a variety of reviews :)
Bloody lovely motor.

The throttle responds you mentioned doesnt sound normal. How long have you had it and driven it for?
