    45:50 amy doesnt believe nick is being genuine, she is not naive, she believes hes on the same page now and understands that she wants him to be what hes not, say what she wants to hear and be who he promised to be (her savior) just as she once catered to him and told him what he wanted to hear and centered her life around him. she wanted revenge and knew a simple divorce or murdering nick or even talking it out with nick would not make him grasp how disillusioned and disappointed and empty she feels now that hes not only cheated on her but given up on being her man (the best version of himself, the one u pretend to be at the start of a relationship). she had to ruin his life his reputation and then kill herself bc she was angry her life had no purpose now. she knows hes pretending for her and thats what she wants. tables are turned and hes the Cool Guy now.

      Amy is kind of a power fantasy, in a way. I've always been genuine in my relationships and what I show you at the start is what I am. Just so happens that I'm a gift-giving, caring mofo naturally. I irritates me that I fall for lovebombing at the start every time because I am that "lovebomber" consistently. It's annoying because these guys would be so good and perfect at the start then just degrades overtime while I stay the same. I leave when, after communicating a lot at how they no longer put an effort while I still do and they expect it from me for some without giving me the same effort, they don't listen and still don't make an effort. I'm a big ally on just show what you are at the start so we don't waste our time down the line. Filter those you can match with already. It just gets tiring through the years.
      Amy, on the other hand, kind of accepted that there's no such thing as the perfect guy for her. The best she can have is someone who will consistently make an effort to pretend to be that guy as she pretended to be that girl for him.

    Gillian Flynn adapted her own novel for the screenplay, better than I could have predicted. (I highly recommend it as a good read; you'll of course get more detail about a number of things.) Before the movie was released, I thought that the book was unfilmable, because it so depends on unreliable points of view and written documents (like her fake journal) -- but it was all translated to the screen magnificently.

    I hate that when people react to that part at 8:43 where he smiles, they don’t realize that it was instinctual, bc one of the reporters yelled out “Smile!”. I didn’t notice the first few times I watched either.

    Great reaction! You guys killed this. I appreciated that you guys didn't keep trying to force a conclusion and let it happen like we were all supposed to. Your facial expressions could easily be a new meme from the initial confusion about Nick wanting to crack her skull to the romantic early days to the turn to her missing, to Nick's assumed guilt, to the turn, all of it. This is one of the best reactions to a great and terrifying movie.

    This movie was a masterpiece. They deserve each other. They are both sociopaths. Even when he didn't know what happened to her, and she had given up so much of her life for him..he didn't care. He was smiling next to her missing picture and sleeping with another woman. 🤷‍♀️

    Saw this in the theater and was legitimately terrified. You start with a beautiful woman who seems funny, clever, cool and perfect in every way only for that mask to be removed to reveal a brilliantly cunning, manipulative, vindictive narcissist who will literally stop at nothing to inflict pain on her husband because she is unhappy and he failed to live up to her expectations. This may be a psychological thriller for women but it’s a horror movie for any man in a relationship. It’s all too plausibly realistic. Told all my male friends to see it without their wives / girlfriends.

    It’s April 2015. Me wife 3 boys and nanny (yeah those were the days) were returning from a special trip from California.
    While I was gushing about boarding a double decker Airbus, the wife was making friends with Tess Daly- lovely lady- Vern her husband was being miserable.
    Anyway- we boarded and then came across a very skinny and sleep deprived Rosamund Pike holding her infant son Atom.
    Sat at the front of economy right behind celeb business class and their curtain.
    And deliberated on whether to watch Gone Girl on the flight while Rosamund was about 10 ft in front of me behind a curtain
    Later on descent to Heathrow my wife and Miss Pike were virtual jousting over the close by first class toilet.
    Much like the climax to Die Another Day when Halle and Rosamund played with swords.
    You don’t want to mess with my wife Rosamund…
    (I’ll reflect on the actual reaction later)
    OH I’M SO LOVING THE REACTION!!!
    You fellas married? I’ve been for 20 years and that’s owing to a healthy fear of my spouse (and she ain’t watching this film!)

      @@RamblersInc yes we did. We had to walk through first class to get to our decent economy seats. Tess and my wife were chatting for ages - she took selfie, posted on social media etc.. Tess is actually really lovely. I was like “alright?” To Vern and he grumbled something back in Boltonese. Might have been the height of that Sexting scandal and marriage was on the rocks. Rosamund looked anaemic and shattered as I squeezed past her - baby looked about 5 months old - so its a tough time no doubt. Possibly my favourite celeb story - as I’ve met other notable figures intentionally. I just bumped into these three

    I swear nobody ever realizes that she was pregnant with Desi's baby, not Nick's! She was waiting to slit his throat until he came, and then she made sure to stay on top of him till it was finished!

    • @RamblersInc
      @RamblersInc  Год назад +7

      That was probably everyone's first thought, but Nick said he'll take a paternity and she didn't seem bothered. For her to take Nick's sample and impregnate herself to trap him seems far more evil than ot being Desi's sample. Also he's more likely to leave if it was Desi's. That's what makes it worse.
      Remember, she needs the evidence for Desi sexually abusing her when they check her out in the hospital so a sperm sample inside her confirms it.

    • @mistyxmarlboro
      @mistyxmarlboro 4 месяца назад +2

      I definitely don’t think it’s Desi’s baby. Nick def wanted a paternity test & I believe it was his. They were going to throw away his sample, but she used it instead.

    That movie was a ride. So were your reactions at a few spots. I'd glad I picked this video to watch. (I was in the mood to relax and watch some tube.)
    I think you mentioned Seven and Fight Club. Both worth a watch, if you haven't. Reminds me of another excellent movie: The Usual Suspects. They make for good reactions.
    Speaking of reactions, I was reminded of some British miniseries that I enjoyed. Have you seen either The Five or Safe? (Both by Harlan Coben.) And there is River with Stellan Skarsgård (who you just watched in Chernobyl). Since you two are in the UK, you may add some useful perspective to those. (BTW, I'm across the pond from you.)
    Then there was Humans, which ran for 3 seasons before getting cancelled even though it was still good. Which reminds me of two other shows that got cancelled while being good: Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and Sense8.
    Since my brain is now on British TV, ever watch Fawlty Towers or Couplings?

      Haven't seen Usual Suspects but know it's a classic of sorts. We'll add it to the list 👍
      Haven't seen The Five, Safe or River but all 3 story descriptions sound so gripping.
      I've seen Couplings. Hilarious show. Similar to Friends.
      Fawlty Towers is a rite of passage. I could probably quote every line. Peak British Humour.
      Funnily enough...I've not seen any Monty Python films 🙃

    IIRC the game of Life has you tally up the value of all your property and stocks and bonds and even each "kid" plastic peg-head is $10k each. This and Monopoly should be enough to show us all how we're meant to be conditioned to a capitalist charnel house, and The Big Short confirmed it. Great job, board games.
