It is not that rare tbh, there are many black metal musicians that are into the electronic music or even switched from black metal straight away into the electronic music (I intentionally use the term "electronic" as I am still not that good at classifying the genres properly, my apologies). One of the most influential artists of all time of this genre, Fenriz from DarkThrone, even had a late night techno/trance show in a norwegian radio while still creating new kvlt black stuff for DarkThrone. I mean, if I was to describe myself 5-10 years backwards it'd probably be a narrow-minded prick listening death & thrash metal all day long and while I was accepting other genres as I used to play classical instruments when I was a kid, I was listening to them very occasionally as I thougth metal is the most difficult and the best genre. But as black metal is quite specific even for the rest of extreme metal community due to its filthy & unclear sound it took me some time to get into it. But since it became my favourite genre of all I began discovering the atmosphere in black metal that always gives me goosebumps all across the musical spectrum, including psytrance. Basically I stopped focusing on genre itself and started looking for the atmosphere and the emotional part that the music delivers towards me instead. The form does not matter, it is the idea and the emotions that are arbitrary to me now and if you focus solely on it, then it is really liberating. Dunno if anyone over here shares the same opinion as I do...
I have been an ardent fan of Metal since my teens, nearly 2 decades on as I have matured the mood and the vibe of the music is of much more importance to me than just the genre. I got into Psy a few years back and have been into electronic music off and on for many years. But it is pretty common for metal listeners and more so Black metal coz of its atmosphere and synth usage, to relate with Psy due to its pace and atmosphere. So yeah I agree with you and also with age comes the appreciation for different kinds of music than just being fixated on a specific genre and not giving other types a shot.
