Great video idea Jamie! It really can be WAY cheaper if you budget and be patient for sales. Instant gratification and unlimited options of streaming are often not as good for us as we think.
Here in the UK, for £100 I could absolutely smash this challenge. I go once a week to my local charity shop, they sell most physical media at three for £1 and box sets for £1 each. Today I picked up Game of Thrones season 1 on Blu Ray for £1, for example. Since I switched back to physical media I stopped all my streaming services. Honestly I struggle to get through 1 movie in a week yet alone 3 so I have enough content on standby to keep me entertained for months, probably years. I do suspect physical media prices will increase though, given its slight resurgence.
This would be a neat little challenge minus the player for viewers to do in real time to add to there collection. Do a 100 dollar challenge dvd /blu ray and see what everyone gets. Can't buy stuff you already have.
Thrift shops are the best places to go to buy movies never know what you'll come across. I usually shop at my local Habitat shop for movies I can get DVDS there for $2.00 a piece & VHS tapes for a quarter a piece & I'll come out of there with like 30 movies for 10 bucks plus that money spent on those movies goes to building houses for the homeless. You guys still have K-Mart over there in Australia never take that for granted over here in America we only have two left & probably only have one left within the next 2-3 years.
I just like having a fallback option. Recently went through the Adventure Time complete collection, and while my internet is fine, the odd buy for me is toward a decent collection where I can have something to share while being able to say “I cared so much *smacks package* I put money behind it. No point being super stingy when something that makes the ugly world feel wholesome for a while makes living so much better.
For less forty-five dollars a month. I get access to thousands and thousands of movies. That includes Prime, Criterion, Shudder and Paramount. I don't have to use gas and drive time to access them. This also doesn't include Tubi or RUclips. You can access it all through your television or for less than $15, you can Roku. Most people under 30, use their phones to watch content and video. DVD/Bluray isnt that portable. You can't guarantee the titles of used DVDs. Most used DVDs I see are the same titles over and over again. Usually, what the common viewer could buy at Wal-Mart or Target, is mostly what you will find. If you player crashes, you have a coaster set. Now, there are minuses with streaming. No doubt. But cost and convenience are not really two of them. I have tons of hard media, I like my collection. However, every person I tried talking into collecting a year ago gave up because of lack of selection, cost for Boutique films and the extra effort one has to exercise. At this point, I buy less new releases than last year and the year before. It's cheaper to buy use because the new stuff adds up quick. Two new 4Ks is more expensive than access to thousands of films. And streaming will improve.
I really enjoyed this video. So much media for that price is great. I was able to see Kangaroo Jack in the background. I still enjoy that film despite the negative reviews it gets. Keep up the great work.
Cameron has his films running through AI in the last transfers...Peter Jacksons Beatles Get Back on Bluray was AI produced after around the 10 min mark (disc One) it's bad looking...Jacksons "They Shall Not Grow Old" was AI also....looked rather good mostly..AI is a hit and miss ..with streaming, you have nothing to show but just memories....I would never go for streaming....your appetite for physical is as good as mine...I've now gone well over the 17,000 mark already.
I just subscribed as I like your content and you seem like a kind human being. So I collect mainly tv shows but some movies as well. I also collect physical books and that's been a lifelong thing. Though I've purchased movies for years, I've really felt the need within the last year to ramp it up. My collection is a decent size and I will continue on this journey. Yes, it can be expensive, addictive and space taking, but I don't care. These things need to be preserved and I want to own what I buy
Raiders of the lost Ark is no longer available on streaming...but I have a copy...Deadpool and Wolverine is streaming for $27.99...I have a pre-order in for less.
I do watch movies that come free on my Amazon Prime account. But it’s usually never as satisfying as getting the movie and watching it. The experience is just better.
Not related. UK 4K VERSION NOT UNCUT!!! I TRIED EVERY OPTION AND CHAPTER SELECTION. I'VE EMAILED WARNER BROS ABOUT IT FOR POSSIBLE DISC REPLACEMENTS!!!
Junk ! No point in buying only one season of any television show where there is six seasons especially with a great show like Fresh Prince of Bel Air. All old movies we seen before like kindergarten cop and true lies . It’s all about new content now . Streaming is value for new and recent content. Tell us how much it is to buy all 6 seasons of Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Same with Sopranos. What’s the point in buying only 2 seasons of the popular show. You need a complete collection to make it worthwhile.
You are forgetting that this video is aimed towards those on a strict budget! They can build up to a complete collection overtime using the small budget they have, and the benefit of that is that most physical media loses it’s value the longer it is out, something that a low budget collector can take advantage of! No point buying all 11 seasons of The Walking Dead on a limited budget when it’s going to take you a year to binge it all 😅 Especially when you could pick up 1 season at a time for significantly less money at your viewing pace. Also your argument regarding old movies makes no sense. If everyone thought that way then nothing would be being restored onto the 4K format. Funnily enough, it all still sells despite many of us watching that particular movie 100+ times already
Physical Media makes sense to me for Movies for cost but Streaming services make sense to me for recent Series that you are only likely to watch once
Yeah true I only buy series and movies I love and will rewatch

Jamie you did well there. An interesting bag of movies, would have been more interesting if it was the complete one hundred dollars on movies
Excellent video as usual, Jamie. Best greetings from Germany to Australia. Keep up the good work.

I always go straight to the media section when I pop into the Salvo's and Vinnies

Thanks for trying to help people get on the right path with your videos Jamie, Cheers
I only buy a TV series if I can get all the seasons in one go as some seasons are hard or expensive to try and track down and buy
Streaming is a total ripoff, the digital age doesn’t realise that they are being taken for a mug.
DVDs are great at thrift stores and garage sales

I actually don't think 4K is worth it, not here in NZ its too expensive and don't me get started on Steel Books

Idk If I see one season of breaking bad for 3$ on bluray like I did last week I’ll grab it and just watch it , I my fun to own , not a completionist
