It is terribly sad to see Ding Liren like this.Great to see Erigaisi playing so well and rising so quickly. Great smash and grab from yet another brilliant young Indian. Thanks Daniel.
Yes, The English Defence can be a lot of fun. I used to have Jim Plaskett's course on it 1982 ish, I think, which was two of those tiny C90 reel to reel cassettes. You were supposed to make the moves on a board. When a key position came up you had to pause the tape to think about it.
Can this channel endure forever, for it’s the best chess channel in my all honest opinion. But all what I can sincerely say is that I owe to it’s founder GM Daniel King ❤ the most appreciation and gratitude. 🙏🏻
The single armageddon game he played vs Pragg, he played very well. I feel like the problem is with his stamina and focus. This could be due to anti-depressant medication, which he said in an interview he'd been taking, or the depression itself...
2770 is absolutely serious. He achieved that with a game against a rather low-rated player. His win against Pentala in the same tournament was more of an achievement.
It is criminal to see that Arjun is not getting invitations to serious tournaments whereas far lower rated players easily getting invitations to these tournaments.
Erigaisi's rise has been fast and spectacular and invitations to the biggest tournaments are offered well in advance. Besides, he has been invited to some prestigious events fairly recently: Sigeman & Co and the Warsaw Rapid & Blitz.
He is also decent amount older then Prag/Gukesh. So they more easily got the 'young guns wildcards' . But they all 3 are now part of the inner elite. No longer relevant they are young for future invitations
Yes I just watched the Ding/Carlsen game on Robert Ris channel, Daniel. Ding is lost mentally. I cannot see him defending the title and Nakamura needs to get ready to step in alas. I wish Ding well.
Whats going on with Ding is really sad. After seeing the position I went and watched the live footage, and when Carlsen played the queen sac Ding didn't even flinch... just stoically and feebly held out his hand in resignation completely devoid of emotion. Perhaps im reading too much into it, but It really did feel like there was an emptiness within him that I would recognise with severe depression. I think he needs to get out of this tournament asap, get a team of people around him, and try and get through these personal issues before even thinking of playing.
Ding's play lately is so tragic it probably is even affecting Nepo. He has to think to himself "I lost to this guy?". A guy who once went 100 straight games against the top 10 without losing, has lost 4 in a row. Well, at least we can look forward to Arjun getting his chance to play the elite soon. Although, there is something to be said about the closed elite scene. I find myself liking big swiss events more and more. Seeing the same 10 guys play each other in round robin over and over, really stagnates the results. And the only way it changes much is when we have a generation change, like we appear to be experiencing. The next gen is ready for their shot.
Ding needs to step aside, focus on getting well, and let Nakamura and Gukesh battle it out. Ding is still a young man and has most of his life ahead of him, but he needs to get his head right. I wonder where Richard Rapport is in all of this. He was a huge psychological support for Ding during the WC match.
Very sad news regarding Ding. He comes from a very long list of former world chess champions that have suffered mentally. I love chess and I do believe it's a positive force for myself and others who play it, but there is a dark side that shouldn't be ignored. It's not just world champions that suffer. It's addictive nature has ruined many a relationship and it can send you into a rabbit warren that is hard to get out of, to the detriment of other aspects of life. A great game, but keep the balance between life and chess otherwise it will hurt you, like the unfortunate Ding.

Thank you!
It really is excellent. The explanations are fun, simple and eduational. I have recommended the channel to various levels of players@PowerPlayChess
India is crazy strong lately.
Erigaisi, Gukhesh, Pragg, Sarin etc.
They’re taking over with this new generation.

I agree that his win against Harikrishna was very impressive, but this win brought him up to #4 and was rather remarkable.

Arjun's rising up real quick

Indians are doing musical chair for 1 Indian spot .❤
Greek gift and Zwishenzug!
Very inspiring game
It’s actually four losses in a row.

Something is clearly mentally wrong with him. He was so good 5 years ago. He's nothing like that player anymore.
It’s Covid and lockdown in China which lasted like 2 years and he doesn’t seem to have recovered from. He’s barely played since 2020
1...b6 ftw!
The first case analysis is incomplete. You said g6 leads to mate in one, but what if black plays Rf6? Or Qxg5?
Oh yes, Qxg5 and Qxg5 really deserves deep analysis.
Kagi ist still not willing to fund the acqusition of a suspended microphone.
