About the AFI Life Achievement Award:
The highest honor given for a career in film, the AFI Life Achievement Award was established by the AFI Board of Trustees in 1973. Denzel Washington will receive the 47th AFI Life Achievement Award, celebrating his life and work. The special will air on TNT on Thursday, June 20, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, followed by an encore at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT. Sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will also air the special in September, during a night of programming dedicated to Washington's work.

I love how Denzel watches each person who speaks or sings with such intensity. The night is about him, but he's so focused on other talent. That says a lot about him.
He's probably an astute listener and keen observer. I think he watches and hears the people. The things they do and don't say, this would also tie into why he's so good at 'Captivating' an audience.

He's my favorite actor because at the beginning of the movie, maybe 5 min or so in you'll see Denzel, but after that little bit of time you'll see the character he becomes. You'll get lost in and it does inspire us. When he speaks he makes me want to lift my head a little higher and stick my chest out a little more. So this award is very well deserved.

I agree about getting lost in the character and in the film. That is one of my standing compliments about Denzel is that no matter how famous he gets, you can see the character he's playing and not see him. Most times, once an actor becomes so famous, it's often hard to see the character they're playing. People leave the theater saying the actor's name and not the character's name. For example, (no shade to Will Smith because I'm a fan) viewers leave saying they saw: "that Will Smith movie" or "Remember that time when Will Smith did____?" Denzel helps you remember the actual character, and that's why he's so good at history-based / biography-based films. That's really not an easy feat.

The part on the Movie John Q when he says; "to accept what? To accept what? He aint gonna die" I didnt know much about Denzel, back then, but I just cried and cried like never before. I was a teenager, but I promised if I ever had a son I was gonna name him after Denzel, I'm Mexican and is funny when people asks for my son's name and I respond "his name is Denzel" now my son is 11 years old and he knows now why his name is not Jose or Antonio, he knows the history of his name! Thanks for existing Denzel!!!
Denzel Washington is my ever favourite actor ever since. He is an inspiration, motivator and his acting signifies something that you can't express. He deserves this Lifetime awards and congratulations Sir.
