  • Chris Holombo's Great O scale standard gauge Logging Layout - Clear Creek Lumber Company ! 22' x 26' point to point model train layout, represents lumbering operations from woods to mill. Steam's reign is challenged by Baldwin Diesels. Layout was featured in Model Railroad 7/94. Certainly one of the best model railways I've ever seen !

Reminds me of the railroads around where I grew up.
By the time I was born most logging railroads were long gone but the remnants are still there and the towns around me all still show the iconic signs of mill & lumber towns in their core.
I don't know what's more beautiful, the scenery, the massive and immaculate combined mill and engine facility, or the incredible finely detailed and weathered brass rolling stock.
Everything looks exactly like the real thing, the collection of dirty oil burning tank engines and geared locos; the massive loads of lumber that actually simulate the real operations of logging railroads; and the dense wooded scenery and winding rails that defined these types of operations.
Quite a few bucket list locos here.

There are many factors in building a railroad layout. One plan I discovered that successfully combines these is the Jareks hobby club (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most useful guide that I have ever heard of. Check out the great info .

    Nice donkey and spar!
I like putting faces & back cuts in some of the bigger logs & all of the stumps and cracking them off in a vice. That way you can see the hinge wood on the butt logs & faces in the tree stumps!

The high climber & the fall & buck are really cool too! This is my goal to achieve with Z scale. I'm still at work too though so I have plenty of time to work on things.

This is a great layout. The detail is awesome. Just one question, and it comes from my ignorance of "O" gage, but I did not see a 3rd rail. I thought, other than American Flyer, all "O" gage rails had a 3rd rail like Lionel.

A great layout with tons of detail, can't film it all in one video ! It's in the San Francisco Bay area, you can usually visit
it during the O scale train show - OS West, which is the end of May, coming up fast !

I just came across this video and was curious as toward the logging Mike at 8:14.
It seems to be in reference to McCloud, or the op&e's 19, but the model from a glance catches my eye to be closer to a more common 70 ton mike, and not 90 tons. As 19 was produced by Baldwin in April of 1915 it was one of few 90 ton Mike's built by Baldwin in that time frame.
If anyone could enlighten me on what type of model it is or if it's custom, or imported/other, than that would be fantastic, as I'm recreating a 1970's rendition of Oregon's op&e in my home!

the discription says O scale standard gauge? o scale and standard gauge are two different gauges. to me it looks like ON30 witch is O scale narrow gauge. what scale is it?

    • @RailwayWorld
      @RailwayWorld  4 года назад

It's O scale "standard gauge", which worldwide is recognized as 4' 8.5".
American O gauge is actually inaccurate, it scales down to about 5'.
As far as I'm aware, this layout is not proto48, which is a finescale version of O with correct 4'8.5" gauge
