    If FIA wants to keep WEC alive , they should bring back GT1 .

      GT class racing is alive and well, maybe more than ever. It's the P class that has problems. Manufacturers backed out of GT1, which is why it isn't there anymore. I think we are seeing a slow climb back to that level though. In the IMSA series in the US GTLM cars are like a GT1.5 right now...definitely more aero than a GT2 class ALMS car, but still the power of a GT2.

      RC000E Yeah , it's sad tho that we won't see grids like the '97-'99 Le Mans anytime soon. Boy , all the big manufacturers were there...Porsche , Nissan , Mclaren ,Mercedes , Toyota , even Honda in the GT2 category.

      Just bring back the old FIA GT format then, GT1+GT2 and the BES with the GT3+GT4+Cup like it was in 2010-2011

    I saw this beast at zolder gt1 in 2011 , unfortuneatly they crashed right in front of where I was standing, a bit sad but still , one hell of a car .

    It could have been great, sadly, the cam is in the wrong place. next time just remember, the eyes are above the nose. ; )

    In case this is not a blind ride of that driver, this must be a chest cam and not a helmet cam, gives nice look at the steering wheel, but you can't see anything else :D

    Am I right that this is one of those transmissions where you can shift up without the clutch but for downshift, you must heel toe?

      It's a sequential racing gearbox, it can take the impact of upshifting and downshifting without the clutch just fine. You need heel&toe to equalize engine RPMs to the wheel speeds, if you downshift this car from 4-3 without rev-matching it'll lock or spin the rear wheels and toss the car's balance out of whack

      but you heel&toe so you can hit the clutch, the brake, and the gas all the same time. I mean I know you need the rev match when you downshift to avoid the rear wheels to lock, but if you can shift down without clutch than why push it? Don't you just brake with left foot and push the throttle with your right foot for rev match?

      He just explained it. Maybe you want to match the revs so that it has it's most power, but you don't want all of that power coming out of the wheels just yet. So you clutch. This is similar to why racers redline and use the clutch to do standing starts.

      Because then you won't be rev matching you will be accelerating in the braking zone. The car does not automatically put the clutch in and wait for you to press the "ok I have finished rev matching" button.

      as a matter of fact, the statistics from 2011 when this GTR GT1 won the championship, you can do a comparison, in 2011 the GTR GT1 did a best lap of 1:28.5 at Zolder; also at Zolder, the R8 LMS GT3 in 2017 did a best lap of 1:29.0, as you can see, half a second faster than a GT3, current GT3 cars probably lack the power of old GT1 cars, but they are seriously fast mate.

      Over the years gt3 spec has been getting closer to gt1.

      At Interlagos in 2010 they ran around 1:32-1:33 with 250-260 as maximum speed. The Viper Competition Coupe GT3 from Itaipava GT Brasil (support race) was running at 1:34-1:35 with 280 of maximum speed. What I heard about GT Racing in those years is that GT2 were heavier and had more power than GT3 cars, but in general GT3 were faster. GT1 had lower top speed but was faster on track than both. I'd like too see an time trial event where Pro Drivers race with "GT Brothers" comparing each other, like Corvette Z06R GT3, ZR1 GT2 and C6R GT1 or Ford GT GT3, Doran GT-R (GT2) and GT GT1.

    Just compare it to today's GT cars. More power and corner speed, no tcs, no abs, no rear camera, stick shifter, heel toe, poor visibility, absolutely barbaric, now that requires huge balls

      Traction control system. It's an electronic program which prevents wheel spin on the driven tiers. When wheel spin detected, the tcs auto cuts engine power, and allows "only" the highest amount of power, which still won't spin the wheels. It is usually band in high level motorsports cause it makes driving easy. When accelerating, the driver can just smash on the throttle, and tcs auto delivers perfect amount of power. Without tcs, it is the drivers job to select, how much power to deliver to the driven wheels.

      All I know is that most GTE cars have/had rear camera, and I am not sure when, but I think It was around 2011-12 when FIA wither-draw the GT1 class and founded the GTE class, so maybe you are right, and some late GT1 cars had rear camera as well. Although this one clearly doesn't have one.

    This was the problem of GT1, the category was the best of the best and they still couldn't use paddle shifters. They couldn't adapt good enough with the pass of time.

      Paddle shifters aren't the end-all solution to changing gears. When u turn and have to change gears it can actually be harder than just using a shifter knob.
