Hi Friends, Welcome back to the craft castle! Today I'm unboxing a xTool p2 and giving you a good comparison to a Glowforge! You're in the hunt for a new laser I want to make sure you have all the facts and information available to you so you can spend your money wisely.
I've had a glowforge for less than 4 years, in the 4 years of owning a glowforge I've had 4 Glowforges. I've only paid for 1 and the others have all be warranty replacements. From what Glowforge has told me "is that I've just had bad luck with their machines." But I can tell you that I am NOT the only person who has issues with Glowforge and their machines! Please Please Please do your research before investing into their company!
That said in the last 4 years I've not only owned a Glowforge but I've owned several other brands and models. I feel like that this point, I can actually give a really good educated opinion on lasers and where to spend your money.
The xTool P2 is hands down the most versatile desktop laser out there! It's SUPER user friendly and if we're directly comparing it to the Glowforge, the xTool P2 has way more capabilities than the Glowforge. The xTool P2 can be risen with a riser base, is larger in bed size & faster, you can use a rotary attachment to engrave round objects, and can do infinite length w/ the added riser base. In all the xTool P2 in all around the most bang for your buck machine!

For cutting really tiny things I put down a 12 by 12 piece of stainless steel screen that I got from Amazon. Works great.
This is so smart!!! I’m gonna do it!
Excellent review. You point out many differences that other reviewers did not.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Ashlee! I’m sold on the P2!
yes!!!! I'm so excited for you!
This is awesome
Did you get the smoke purifier for indoor use? Can I use it without that?
Also- for paper cutting, do I need the honeycomb tray?
I didn't get the purifier yet. You can use it without it but you'll need a window to vent out. (all lasers need either a window to vent or a purifier)
Also, I cut cardstock on my p2 and I do not have the honeycomb tray.
This was SO helpful in deciding between the two machines, thank you!
Question: how much smoke is there once you open the lid if you are cutting .25in basswood? I have an Atomstack now that I have to use in the garage (even with an enclosure) because the smoke/smell is too strong for inside. Do you get any of the smoke coming back in through the window?
One trick is to let the machine fully suck out all the smoke before opening the lid after your cuts are finished. That said, the xTool seems to have a better fan than the glowforge but I would say with both machines there is only a noticeable smell when cutting/engraving acrylic.
Awesome, thanks so much for this info 🙌
Dope video! How do you eliminate flashback and charring? Also, if I trace something with a pen, is there an option to auto select the shape taken from the camera? Asking for the P2.
Hi! I always mask my material to eliminate charring & flashback. Others adjust settings and then sand when needed after cutting but masking is easiest for me. That said, there is a trace feature on the xtool program but I don't love that feature. I show you what I do in a different video, and it's my go to: ruclips.net/video/Lz-ALVnjCeQ/видео.htmlsi=MKUJ8WZCRYjYVCrW
Can you talk a little bit about the concentration level 😳 that part has me nervous already and I haven’t even purchased the machine yet 😂 Thank you!!!
There’s a table in the manual. It has all these ‘low’ temps, you choose the lowest temp of your area and follow the recipe they give you.
Ok great! Thank you!!!!
Think I’m gonna get one of these !
Off topic but what’s the shelf that’s holding your cricuts? I definitely need that 😅
Sadly you can't buy it, my husband made that.
How thick of acrylic p2 can cut?thanks for answering..
simple google search said 20mm, but I only even cut acrylics that are 3mm thick.
With the P2, do you have to purchase a software system? Monthly?
It’s free!!
How do you feel about the P2 vs the S1 40W?
There is a huge different between the P2 & S1, because ones a co2 and the other is a diode. I'm not someone who likes diode lasers, so I will always suggest a co2.
@@ashleefalco Understandable!! Could you elaborate on your preference for C02? (Only if you have the time) I'm trying to decide between the two and I THINK the P2 is the way to go, but I also saw a comparison of projects and in some cases the S1 had better outcomes, but the creator admitted he went with pre-determined settings vs. dialing it in for the P2.
