I have a “my Social Security” account set up now. I plan to apply for Medicare and Social Security during November this year. can I apply for Medicare & social Security through the “my Social Security” account website, I see there’s a tab for Medicare on it? Can I go that route instead of the route you described? Thanks
Yes! It is essentially the same process... the video explains how to create the SS account. However, if you already have one, just fast forward to the part that goes over the application.
I turn my FRA in January and want to take SS benifits 01/2024. However I have health insurance from work through January and want to start medicare in February. Should I sign up separately? Should I do the SS benifits now and do the medicare in January to be effective in February?
You can certainly do the Medicare enrollment for February. SS and Medicare are two different programs, although you complete it on the same application. Just specify when you apply that you do not want the Part B to start until February. Otherwise, they will start the Part B in January and you will pay that premium and your work premium for that month.
@20Schmidt How long does the SSA retirement benefits application process normally take? (application submission confirmation to receiving award letter). Has been a 6-month wait for myself (application received confirmation on March 20, 2024) so far. My application has been reviewed and they said I have the 40+ work credits to receive benefits. Waiting for the award letter. Have read it usually takes 3-5 months. Can anyone who's been through the process tell me how long it took? Getting concerned (thought i'd have received my letter in August...realistic timeframe). Thank You for any input.
@@medicarejoe Really appreciate you taking the time to reply...giving me a usual timeframe. Was trying to avoid it (long waits on phone/long lines at office in person), but it's beyond time to check on things. Thanks again

This typically takes 3 months for most folks. I recommend calling SSA and inquiring again and mentioning that its been this long for an approval.
